Another thing that's worth noting, the Skull Collectors don't trade the skulls for Blazes, Cave Spiders, Regularass Spiders, Ghasts, Magma Cubes and Pigmen. Villagers are really finicky with NBT data for items they trade, so I'm guessing something changed between the making the villagers and making the mobs that drop skulls. The standard skulls (Zombie, Skeleton and Wither Skeleton) all work fine though.

Really enjoyed the Strawberry Jam map. Those dungeons were super fun and, unlike csarpaul over there ^, I had a lot of fun tracking down all the obelisks and navigating the terrain.

I will say that after two obelisks: I felt rather invincible and started playing incredibly recklessly. Didn't have a single death and never really came close to dying because of the insane amount of diamond and health pots that I happened upon.

For being made within 72 hours though, it is really good looking and a hell of a lot of fun. :D

This is an absolutely wonderful map. The challenges are fun, cleverly designed and nicely balanced for the resources players earn. The areas are all beautiful.

Clearly this is, in part, an homage to Vinyl Fantasy with the island-area concept, the use of records instead of wool and some of the themes of the areas. If you enjoy hard maps, Skybound fits the bill. Like Vinyl Fantasy, mistakes will often cost you your life. All that said, this is not just a 1.8 update of that classic. The gameplay within each area is quite different.

Skybound also avoids the mistakes that I believe Vinyl Fantasy made. For example, Vinyl Fantasy gives the player access to infinite iron almost immediately, the result being that the main threats for the rest of the map are fall damage and void rather than combat. This map is much more careful in its resource balance. The renewable base gear is perfect for allowing players to make difficulty progress, so players are never completely out of luck. However, there are also nice bonus loot items placed around to reward exploration and problem solving...

by this I mean that some of the loot is trapped and requires some Minecraft smarts to retrieve.

Using the floating island structure to lay out areas is interesting. On one hand, it's great aesthetically compared to cave CTMs. The areas are large enough and far away enough that on typical render distances, you get a preview of the area from the starting island to get a sense of its theme, but the reveal doesn't happen until you get closer. This is where Skybound offers a really creative solution to what was my least favourite part about Vinyl Fantasy: getting to the areas. In VF, your options were either farm up some blocks and gradually bridge from island to island or farm enderpearls and pop from island to island (waiting 20 seconds to regen each time you pearl, of course). For me, this was a tedious chore. I wanted to get to the action, not shovel dirt and have to run back and forth whenever I ran low on supplies.

I won't give away what Skybound does instead, but it drastically reduces travel time and the mechanics are extremely fun. It turns what I view as a weakness of the island structure into a highlight.

That got a bit long, so for a tl;dr, I'll sum up. This a very creative, well-balanced and FUN take on Vinyl Fantasy. I highly recommend it to CTM players.

    You're too kind

    Hey,

Sorry for the incredibly late reply. We aren't as active on the Minecraft Forums as we used to be, so we haven't been regularly checking our posts. One of our friends who is a part of this group, SorLite, has been reaching out to players on the oc.tc forums. You can find his application page here: https://oc.tc/forums/topics/52ca270a12ca95057d000ede

He checks that post daily and is rather indiscriminate, so you will more than likely get a shot. Once again, sorry for the belated reply.

Lots! I try and pvp often, I have a group with whom I play semi-regualarly. I am very familiar with all the big pvp maps. Nail, Hoodoo, Calamity, Vertigo. I have various strategies for all of them

    Tell me about yourself:
I started minecraft as a big redstoner. I am currently finalizing a very redstone intensive pvp map. I put SERIOUS work into it. I am very very adept with command blocks and redstone. I try and pvp as often as I can with my group. I really want to take it seriously, strategize, and win.

I haven't played any of the maps that you guys play, but I have seen videos of them, and I am very keen to play them and learn more about them. I have played a fair amount of hunger/survival games, and various PvP type minigames on servers.

    Tell me about yourself:
I'm just a uni student with lots of free time for gaming. I'm not the most serious of gamers, I like to joke around and have fun, but I can be serious if the situatuion calls for it.

What PvP maps have you played?
I actually haven't played any PvP maps. I do play a lot of PvP minigames on a lot of servers though. And I already know that it wouldn't be hard to figure out how custom made PvP maps work. Especially if I just download one and screw around with it for a little by myself or with a friend. If there are specific maps you want me to try out between me and a couple of my buds before accepting me before I'm accepted, let me know and i'll come back to you with details about it.

    Tell me about yourself:
I'm just some guy who plays video games. I consider myself a great builder, I like to write, I watch anime, and I like having fun with people. I tend to come off as cruel or mean sometimes, but once you get to know me for a little bit, you'll realize i'm not. I also curse a lot, so if that happens to be a problem, let me know. In the end, i'm just a jerk with a heart of gold who's just looking for a good time (not that kind of a good time).

What PvP maps have you played? I've played the walls and I don't know any other games you would consider PvP maps.

Tell me about yourself: First off, please don't deny me just because I'm 12. Just because I might not be able to cuss or say crude things doesn't mean I'm not fun to play with. The main reason I would LOVE to be a part of this team is because my friends computers lag and they aren't as experienced way so I can't play anything with them. Thank you if you have read this :D .

Skype: I promise I will get Skype if I can play a couple of rounds with you :)

If you don't want me to immediately dismiss you because of your age, please give me something to go off. You have hardly any PvP experience, you leave it to our imagination to determine how fun you are, and the only reason you said you want to play with us is because you don't want to play with your friends.

Now that we have me being critical out of the way, here's how you can remedy the problems:
    • Try checking us.oc.tc for some PvP. Really good server that has a lot of game modes. Can sort of prepare you for what to expect.
    • Give us more to go off. You can't just say that you think your fun and expect us to agree. We have no problems with the language you choose not to use, however the discussions that we partake in can be described as vulgar at times.
    • Think of more reasons that you want to play. We're not going to accept you if you just announce that we exist to substitute for your friends shortcomings.
Don't take what I say to heart, but don't think of my words as "some jerk's opinions".
