Lovely build by the way, I do like how you put extra detailing into the towers and walls to make it stand out. Can't even begin to tell you how many basic stone brick walls I've seen.
Don't be too hard on those new to Minecraft, we don't grow as a community by picking new people off. Personally Wreck, I would build a survival home into the side of a cliff or a hill and use both a mixture of wood, stone, and glass to achieve a more organic and pleasing form. You could always browse the other threads here and pick up ideas from the community.
I really do enjoy pixel art, it is really basically like painting (which I can do) but I can't do any pixel art really. Non-transfer of skills really bites. ._.
This is a lovely start, but might I suggest using the many other kinds of blocks that exist too? Try using stone brick, or the various stair and slab types? Even ornamental ore blocks are pretty if used right. I also highly suggest using a texture pack other than vanilla.
I did say the world was moved around a bit, and I make extensive use of the weatherman mod as well as simply moving entire bits of land around (as was the case here. I actually scooped up the mountains and reassembled them here like a jigsaw, was quite a pain but worth it.
Ink sacks were always at least marginally useful, they functioned as a black dye for wools. But now, this book editing update has me ecstatic because I can now write custom books for my rp server. Hooray Jeb!
