    Hello, Noppes!
Me and my gf are using your NPC-Mod since quite a while now, but with this new version we got the first problems since we started to build our map. It's not an error-log or anything like that, but .. it's pretty annoying and it doesn't happen without the mod. The only noticable message is "unable to locate sign at XXX" and I don't really know what is meant with that. The main problem is that the environment is getting set down in height randomly. This only happens when running the "server" and not with playing the map in SP. Here are some screenshots:

(this scared the out of me ^^ Could be a creepypasta, lol..)

Did something like this already happened to someone ? Or does anyone has a solution for that ? Like I said, everything is normal when the mod isn't running.

I have been having the same problem. I can't seem to isolate what's causing it.

for the MCPermissions plugin, you think you could add a default gamemode per group permission setting, where when a player joins, if they are in a group they automatically get set to that group's default gamemode, and if the nick is not in a group or that group doesn't have a default gamemode, it defaults to the original settings?

Also with the Tutorial for the plugins I am going to do, I have decided to wait till an update for 1.4.6 is posted. Then I will get it on YouTube asap :D !

    1. I can add an option in the .cfg to enable command block commands for MCPermissions not for MCProtect though

    2. Im adding region rules. Current rules in the making are NoPvp, NoInteraction and NoMobspawning. Feel free to make suggestions for more rules

    3. Well that features is already done, but Im adding some more stuff. Ill try to get it done this weekend

1&2 - Since mcprotect cant use the command block... can you make it so that you can assign a group to a region (or visa versa)? would be nice when you add someone to a group that they can have instant access to the region(s).

3 - Sounds good. Just let me know when you would like me to make that tutorial. :)

Like I said, there's no crash report at all. I load the world, it says "Shutting down internal server", and Java crashes.

Here is a batch file (completely safe) that I use for testing MC and catching bugs. I found it on the minecraft forge wiki pages (they have removed it since).

Run this and it will start up minecraft for you, then do what ever caused the crash and the output will be put into the batch window.

can you add a command to be able to rename a region?

also could you make a way to be able to cancel making a region? (in case you selected the wrong starting block or something)

EDIT: If you could include some way to change the permissions in-game that would be awesome. (primarily would like to be able to change it with the command block)

MCPermissions was preventing me from editing NPCs, so I removed it. Now Minecraft crashes whenever I open a world saved with MCPermissions. No crash report is created.

EDIT: ReinstalliNg MCPermissions does NOT fix the crash.

    1. Custom NPC mod has its own MCPermissions that you need to add. You can find those on the CustomNPC thread.
    2. I suggest grabbing a fresh server and installing a fresh copy of forge and mcpermissions. Then for the NPC controls, be sure to add those permissions to the groups so they can manipulate those npcs. :P

So I finally understand how it works... Sadly though I was hoping that when you created a region it would protect the whole area. I was hoping for something that would protect my towns or places I built from players digging into the walls or mining under the area. Are there any plans to maybe add this feature in? Otherwise if I wanted to protect an entire house I would have to create a region for each block high the structure is... I guess I am missing the point of a region if a players can build over or under it... Dangit..

Can you maybe add a feature in there to protect a larger scale area or "3d" area?

It does do 3d areas.... all you need to do is select opposing corners of the 'cube' that you wish to protect... which means you need to include height as well... and not just the length and width... that should make it so that the area is protected correctly.

Hey Noppes, do you think you could add an option in the minecraftpermissions.cfg file to choose whether ops get an automatic permission overrides or not? (default as all permissions are allowed for ops)

I'm just gonna kick back and wait til this gets all sorted out...lol
The actual main thing I wanted was the "door and chest lock" idea. thats all I really need to work on my little 5 person server.
If anyone cares to help and make me a yml for 3 ppl that would help alot, I am not in good health these days and just want to
have a little fun with my kids while I can.
    Joe (admin)(op)
    paige (member)
    sammy (member)
I just want us to lock stuff up for now, I don't care about the region part yet.
    Thanks

here is a sample .yml which allows for everything except that the members cannot open chests. (wooden doors i have not been able to get to 'lock', you can always try and work with iron doors and redstone)

    groups:
    guest:
    default: true
    permissions: []
    prefix: '[Guest]'
    member:
    inheritance: guest
    permissions:
    - mcprotect.*
    - -mcprotect.block.54.*
    admin:
    permissions:
    - '*'
    prefix: '[ADMIN]'
    users:
    Joe:
    group: admin
    paige:
    group: member
    sammy:
    group: member

this example will allow admins to do everything, and prevent members from place/interact(opening)/destroying the chests. Remember this is permanent for the group member and it prevents members from interacting with ALL chests on the server.

Hmm... hey Noppes, where is the data for the regions stored? Could you make it accessible outside of the game, maybe similar to the permissions.yml?

I bring this up because I found a case-sensitive bug. I am able to create a region with lower and uppercase letters. i can manipulate the data (add/remove users, delete the region) for a region with lowercase letters only just fine... but when I try and manipulate the data for a region that has at least 1 upper case letter, i get "unknown region".

While not being a MC op, the regions with lower case and regions with at least 1 uppercase prevent me from building/destroying in them (not being on the region's user list) like they should.

    EDIT:

    Quote from LorD_Noka

I have a problem, when i create a region whith russian(UTF-8) name, i cant remove him, becouse mcprotect dont find them.

I think this might fall under the bug I found... did you use any uppercase letters in the region's name?

Since the block logging isn't easy to do what about a honeypot mod? Alot of bukkit servers have whats called a honeypot which is a player house that is set up solely to attract griefers and when they try to break it they get banned automatically. Would something like this be hard to do?

I can only check if a players starts to destroy a block not if he actually destroyes it. So that has the same problem as the log block.

I believe this mod is more of a protection/allow mod... not really a detection mod.
if you are looking to check an area i suggest you have a look at the command block that is a part of the original Minecraft game and mess with that some.

    and for some examples...

    hope that helped

now we just need to find a mod that allows us to lock doors/chests using these permissions :D

How do you imagine locking chests would work?

This mod does allow for 'locking' of chests ( wooden doors i have not been able to get to 'lock' yet... will keep trying. until then you can always use iron doors and redstone :P )

all you need to do is to have a group have the following permission:

    - -mcprotect.block.54.*
(be sure to have BOTH hyphens WITH the space in between them)

and that will prevent users in that group from opening (implementing the .interact fucntion) the chest (as well as they can't destroy it for loot either :P ).

    Quote from Noppes

I should probably try to find somebody willing to make some tutorial vids on the mod.

I think i have a fairly good understanding of this mod and its features so far... I'll go ahead and give making a tutorial for it a shot.
Should be done in a day or two...

    ----------

    Now for a bug report:

I just ran across an interesting glitch...

here is the .yml settings (they work)

    groups:
    guest:
    default: true
    permissions: []
    admin:
    permissions:
    - '*'
    prefix: '&'
    owner:
    permissions:
    - mcprotect.*
    - -mcprotect.block.46.*
    prefix: '~'
    users:
    mcinc:
    group: owner

using that .yml and not being an op... i was messing around with placing it as fast as i could... and you know how it gets placed but imediately gets removed?... well if you click fast enough it will place a second block down before the first one gets removed, but the second block stays and is not removed. that also happens when i try and place a stone block next to it (implementing the .interact) and if i click fast enough it will place 2 blocks and only the first one will be removed. this does not occur when deleting blocks.

When I try downloading Forge from the download link, I get a 404 error. Any suggestions?

it may be an issue with adfly... try the following

go to the MCFORGE site and click on Releases>Main Forge Download>Downloads DIrect>Recommended>Universal

that will give you the direct DL link for the Forge files.

im still waiting an answer for this
    What i do???

place the character z=-1 y=-1 x=-1 blocks from where you origianlly had it placed... then set the offset to z=1 y=1 x=1 and you get the correct position that you are looking for.

    Quote from owned645

yeah my ideas can be a bit a bit complex. i guess what i meant by the idea was that have a square npc that could be placed like a block. just can't walk but can be walked on. also that acts like regular npc, just can't walk

use the slime model and change the texture to a block texture like stone or other one. but as with all NPCs, you are unable to climb or jump on top of it. and as for the not walking or such... it is set to standing for default, and slime model has no 'head' part to rotate so it stays still anyway.

    hope that helped. :)

Hey Noppes I have an idea for the Custom Npc mod, for the randomly spawned Npc's (on your webpage) they could have pre-made quest and Conversations. How does that sound.

a bit complex and would probably go a bit later on the todo list. If I am not mistaken he is currently working on the individual elements listed on the todo list. But that is up to him. :P

    Quote from Mrdude1234

When will the dragons be able to fly, because I have a bunch of cliped dragons in my world :(

It has been said that flying NPCs are on the todo list. It will come soon. :)

Is there a way to reset the quests so i can go through them again?

Yes. Go into the global tab on the NPC menu>go to player data> select the player you want to edit the quests for>then click on Quest Data and select a quest that you wish to remove and make available again>click on delete to make that quest available again.

or if you wish to reset ALL data involving a player (Warning... this resets ALL the transport/bank/dialog/quest data associated with that player) just select the player name and click on delete to remove the player's data.

    Quote from haloxmaster

why use forge? when i use forge my other mods don't work neither does custom npcs.

Forge is a universal API now meaning (iirc) that forge takes care of the server sides of mods, which makes it easier for coders and modders to customize minecraft. And as for "mods not working' could you elaborate on that a bit? is MC booting up but not loading any mods? is MC not starting up at all?

    ---

    Now for another idea...

oh crud... i forget... oh well...
    I'll think of it eventually.

EDIT: not sure if this was my original idea that i forgot earlier.... but if you could add a simple invisible block that has toggle-able transparency (say like with a simple command usable only by ops) so you can prevent players from going beyond certain bounds.

Say if there is a big construction project going on in an area and you don't want the average Steve to waltz in, you could use those blocks to zone off the area. You could also use them to prevent players from falling off cliffs that you don't want them falling off of.

[update] : Although it remains at "Select Quest" It allows me to use it still, so I can still make it use the quest

When I Try to select a quest in the dialog menu, it wont select any quests. It returns to the dialog menu as it should, but the "Select Quest" Still remains, and I cannot create any quests : (.

    Any help would be appreciated

You have to make the quests from the global tab. then you can assign npcs to those quests.

Ok, so no mod crossing, gotcha... (not sure if already suggested) capability for players to associate with faction(s) using the global player data? also, along those lines, having a faction(s) availability option for the redstone block?

Is there some way to be able to have the pony model use the dance function?

EDIT: Does the permissions on the mcprotect.block.<redstoneblockID>.interact include activation of it?
