Love the info in this, though had a question. I prefer survival mode to creative, but find that it's sometimes easier to build with the peaceful setting on. With that said, will wolves and the cats still spawn, or do I have to keep it on easy or higher for that. I've been on several seeds now looking, and have only found wolves once, and it was on normal mode. Thanks for any help!
In peaceful mode, only hostile mobs stop spawning (except the ender dragon), so wolves and ocelots/cats should still spawn. For the list of hostile mobs, see here:
Depending on how far you are from spawn chunks, you may be able to fix it. If you have a hopper pointing into a chunk adjacent to a spawn chunk, it forces that chunk to remain loaded. You can then build a chain of chunks with hoppers pointing into the next chunk to force your base to remain loaded. This can hurt performance and/or cost a lot of iron however.
Came back to this server after taking most of the winter off, and I must say it's been great. Not having to worry about my builds being destroyed in some random map reset is a relief. Thanks Jack for running such an amazing server!
Is there a block on the left side of the dispenser?
In my experience, which is from many versions ago and so may not be relevant, it was best to fill in the corners otherwise they glitched out through them.
There is not a block on both sides of the dispenser. I will try this, thank you.
The device is fairly simple. Breeder chickens drop eggs into a hopper which inserts them into a dispenser. The dispenser is hooked to a redstone clock so that it repeatedly shoots the eggs into the killing mechanism. Here's a picture of the killing mechanism:
The problem is that the chicks are spawned inside the halfslab like they are supposed to but then glitch into the dispenser where they die. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I believe it's a problem with the height. I built one above 150 and nothing spawned, but when I moved it down to the surface, I had no issues. Your design is good (I think I'll steal it if that's okay), so try bringing it below 128.

EDIT: It didn't work. Unfortunately.

You go to minecraft.net, log in with your account, and download it. Note that this only works if you've payed for the game.
