posted a message on solution to the leaf decay debate and updates breaking mods
I do not lag until a cluster of trees come into the picture (post Beta). Granted my laptop its not the best and I have to play on the lowest of settings anyway but ever since the leaf decaying update I just stay away from trees full stop. I thus whole-heartedly support the option of updating the game without it. I know that there is debate as to if this is what is causing the lag (for some people) but to me it seems clear... I walk forward to take a look at my surroundings on tiny/fast: cliffs, water, animals, chunks - everything absolutely great! However even before I start to see the trees I get massive lag and know straight away that they are up ahead which in my mind leaves no questions as to the root of the problem. To stay on topic though - yes I think it would be a good idea for Notch to give a customisable option for leaf decay whether it be through updating the game without it or possibly an in game alternative where you can turn it off? (I dont know if this is a realistic implementation though). On the other hand with the amount of people who whine about updates I feel like options to update certain parts of minecraft and not others will leave room for a lot of people to cry about other things, possibly to the point where they hassle Notch to update only specific parts of the game which I think would cause a lot of hassle. The mentality 'Well hey I can update decaying leaves... why shouldn't we be allowed to update BLANK BLANK BLANK and BLANK'.

posted a message on Help me find my house please! D:
I made the most amazing house on a cliff far away from the spawn point and now after accidently dying of fall damage I cannot find my way back. Are there any mods/map editors/etc I could utilise to find it again? I am sorry if this is under the wrong category I just really long to get back to that house and all my hard work. D: Thank you in advance for any help.

I have not come across anything like that yet but I really hope I do hah. I have a bad habit of getting lost almost instantly in long, complex dungeon systems.

posted a message on I applaud those of the Minecraft community...
Now I do not want to fire up a debate or anything of the sort but I feel that these sort of threads are, in general, as aggrevating as the ones where people complain about bugs/notch not doing a good enough job. For every thread that whines about how laggy and buggy the game is, there always seems to be a thread (like yours) where the op complains about the complainers and says 'TEH GAME IS IN DEVELOPMENT/BETA FFS!1!11!'. Now I do not mean to say you do not make valid (although somewhat obvious) points I am just stating that I am as tired of sifting through these types of posts as I am of the ones where people are complaining. This is just my personal opinion.

posted a message on Minecraft Beta Huge Cave Exploration
I personally love caves and the bounty they hold but I am such an unreliable and clumsy character that no matter how many breadcrumb and torch trails I leave for myself I am hardly ever able to find my way back to the surface. This happens very frequently. I would spy a large cave/dungeon, begin my exploration and every time I think to myself 'no, this is enough' then I would turn a corner and cannot help myself. It is a vicious cycle.

posted a message on Still no 'sleep mode'?
If all you are waiting for is for the sun to come out so you can go about your daily business, night time drags on... and on and yes, I know you will all say that the solution is to go find something useful to do but you cannot even tab out of the game without it (and night time along with with it) being paused (as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong here). I dont know, maybe I am making a small insignificant issue seem like it needs a fix when nobody really even considers it a problem but I would just really, really like the option to make those 7 or so minutes go by faster...

posted a message on Still no 'sleep mode'?
I am a little surprised that there is still no way of speeding up night times in single player mode. Surely if there was an option for some sort of sleepmode which makes non daylight hours go by x3 the speed they normally do but your character becomes 'inactive', it would make the game a lot more enjoyable for many players? I do not know how hard this option would be to implement but I really wish the nights were not so lengthy in duration. If not a sleep mode then possibly some way of shifting how long nighttimes are? Maybe options like 'short, medium, long' or something along those lines? I know this is unrealistic in terms of gameplay but so many features are already customisable so why not this also? I mean.... it would only be available in single player mode so really the only person you are cheating is yourself and we already do that with 'peaceful mode'. This is just a suggestion and my own personal opinion but I would really like something of this sort implemented in the future.

posted a message on Your minecraft life
My story is fairly short. I have tried many, many times to load a map with the ideal spawn location to build a desirable home but after several miserable attempts, I was no nearer to my dream spot than when I first set out. So I began to travel far and wide, soaking up views and desperately longing for that one location that would make me swoon and sigh.I swam and climbed and even fell, only resting my exhausted pixelated feet when the dark embraced me and the monsters of the night awoke. The map seemed never-ending, my journey long and treacherous but... I refused to give up. And finally I reached it, a glimmer of light from the distance. As soon as I saw it I knew we were destined. It was love at first sight. So I built there, within the canopy of leafy trees, mushrooms and woodland suspended on a rocky slope with the most breathtaking of views. Then one fateful morning, I wondered off far from the house collecting wood for my fire. No amount of breadcrumbs could lead me back to my haven. =(

posted a message on Beta Impressions - What do you think?
Like the other people on the forums have already stated, the game in its current state is absolutely unplayable for me. If I am patient, I can survive through 40 or so minutes of trying to play it but that is purely dedication to what the game used to be and hope that the lag will improve... it does not and so I reluctantly close out. I adore minecraft and was one of the people who was eagerly awaiting beta and all the things it would bring (bugs included). This however is just unanticipated. For the constant struggle I expected some shiny new content not just a casual throw around of eggs. I may seem slightly bitter about all of it and I honestly do not intend to be. I just assumed that when the creator advertises this patch as an expansion where 'The skies are trembling, pigs are growing wings, and the nether is turning awfully coldI' I expected something of a much larger, noticeable scale not mere trivial as it has been so far. In short, so far beta has been an awfully large disappointment but I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that Notch gets the situation under control and (in the near future) gives us the new content we have all been eagerly craving and anticipating.

posted a message on New Christmas Mob
I think it would be nifty if it was polar bears... that you could farm for fur to protect you from the harsh, bitter cold! Or they could be 'tameable' in that you could combine silk to make a collar and when u right click this item with the polar bear it would follow you around loyaly and protect you from mobs- a word of warning though: taming may and will usually cause your speedy death, its totaly worth it if you succeed though! SMALL PRINT: Chance of success 0.01% Happy holidays!

    posted a message on Milk...
I was really hoping that milk would have a more genuine use post-Beta and I am still silently wishing that it eventually will....preferably sometime in the recent future. I would love it if there was a larger variety of what I could eat in game. Sometimes I find myself making food items even when I always play in peaceful mode just because I like too. Sounds slightly pathetic but it's just a really good feeling of personal satisfaction gathering something from the wild and then transforming it into a bowl of tasty goodness... all without ever leaving the comfort of ur own home. I also think you should be able to use eggs as a cooking ingredient. Just that one tiny item could have limitless recipe potentials. That is just my take on it however and I understand that the game is not supposed to be cooking-orientated, I just feel like it would add to the overall enjoyment of the experience. :smile.gif:

I have to admit... the idea of a collony of pigmen-although farfetched, pleases me :biggrin.gif:
It would be rather interesting sharing my surroundings with such mobs. :Pig:
