Forgot to mention that. As for build limits, Mojang responded to a popular suggestion dedicated to that, saying it was impossible since it would require to redo everything of how chunks would work and whatnot. Basically an excuse to not use it, that some would argue about. But I won't go into much detail about that, as it would derail from the topic.
I know what you're saying 100%. It's definitely doable, though.
Sometimes what Minecraft lacks is because of the limitaitons it has.
Like, I would love to have dynamic lighting in Minecraft or colored lighting with various hues to it, but it's not possible because then Minecraft would have to completely change their light engine. And I would also want to see higher build limits, but that would lag most of the time.
Minecraft, as a sandbox game, could be missing a few good things here and there. But I mostly think that's what people would want to see, which is why a majority of those gaps are filled in with mods.
Dynamic and coloured lighting are very possible. As is an increase in build limits. Both have been done before in EvilMinecraft / Cubed(mods I've organized in the past), all it would really take is more optimization for them to run smoothly.
My company, Adanac Entertainment, who made the 'EvilMinecraft' mod(http://evil-minecraft.net) is now creating a game! The game's title is 'Latura' and it's in the same voxel-based sandbox kind of genre that Minecraft helped make popular. We're aiming to make things simply 'fun' and enjoyable.
I'll be attending on behalf of the EvilMinecraft team(and I guess Shadow386 would be considered the 'back up'). Can't wait to get the ball rolling on the API.
It doesn't matter if they are spawning during the day and night if it still feels like minecraft.
This thread was only 3 pages when I read the main page thinking this was a near complete total-conversion. "We hope to add many features, most of which we aren't going to be announcing quite yet--It currently has no release date, as we’re waiting for the mod API to be released to begin on a majority of it".
No offence but the person who updates the minecraft homepage should have a better understanding about what their posting— specifically when they write "in the near future" and "total-conversion".
Hmm. Cool idea. But why do you need so many people for such a small mod? What you have shown is a few weeks (Probably less) worth of 1 modder. So why do you need a dozen? Also, I'm guessing that within a week, this will become ignored by most people, as the Aether mod is coming out, and I would be willing to bet 10$ that it will be on the news. And most people only read the top article.
First of all, the ideas we've posted are only for the preview mod(and even then, we're adding many more things to the preview mod than we've revealed thus far). Second, we haven't shown everything that's been completed so far.

Please expand upon that! Though I think I sort of know what you mean.

As the title says, what do YOU - the players - think Minecraft is currently lacking? What in the game currently needs expanded upon the most?
Let me know. I might plan something if people want to actually support.

I may be a little bias but my favourite right now is this.

If you don't know what "EvilMinecraft" was, go check out the thread(though it's quite format-broken aha).

So, as the title says. I'm prepared to give the green light for such a thing if there's interest.

I dig it.

We aren't looking for testers at this point.

The API(well, source) isn't far off at all.
