Finally decided to play a version of the game newer than 1.8! Had to find a new texture pack since Painterly is no longer updated, but I really wanted to check out the new underwater update. I've already found a few treasure maps, and started building a large aquarium. As soon as I manage to find some diamonds I'm going to start on the process of making my own village via curing zombie villagers. I've got a small farm started that they can help me expand as I grow my village. Just need those diamonds so I can make a portal.

    Peaceful mode exists.

This. I spend most of my time in peaceful mode, simply because I prefer to explore without being harassed by skeletons and creepers all the time. I only turn mobs on if I need stuff from them, or am ready to cure Zombie Villagers and thus need zombies to spawn.

Not a whole heck of a lot, as I'm not as creative as pretty much everyone here. Started a new world to play around with the Lucky Block mod, and am currently trying to get the last bits and pieces I need to be able to start a village around my spawn point, since my current world didn't give me any nearby like my last two did. Trying to get another couple apples, and I'll need some more gold ingots to be able to make two more golden apples. Also need to build some houses that I can trap and cure zombie villagers in, and for them to live in after being cured. Hoping if I can cure three or four zombie villagers, that will be enough for them to start breeding without having to wait for weeks on end. Only curing two never gets me anywhere.

posted a message on Lucky Block Mod - Drops items, spawns mobs, structures and more!

Ok, stupid question time. If I'm using a resource pack like the customs ones from Painterly, will the Lucky Block still show up properly, or will they not show up because the resource pack doesn't have the Lucky Block included in the new textures? Currently playing a world I made just for the Lucky Block mod, so hopefully I'll find out on my own by stumbling across a Lucky Block, but figured it can't hurt to ask anyway.

    *edit*

Ok, so I CAN see Lucky Blocks in my game while using a resource pack, so that's good. Also, I love this mod. I've had a couple Supercharged Creepers spawn from the LBs when I hit them, but I also got a bunch of Prismarine related stuff (regular, dark, shards, sea lanterns, etc.) and just now opened a Lucky Block that gave me several enchanted books for skills like Looting II, Blast Protection III, and Silk Touch I, among others.

posted a message on Golems, anyone?
I've not done much with golems before, but I definitely want a few snow golems to help hold back mobs. I made a couple but they wandered off and I think they melted. I want to try and get an iron golem to spawn in my new village, too. Started one right next to my house, but I only have one guy in it so far. XD

Only thing I've done recently that made me happy was finally finding and curing a zombie villager. Took HOURS to find one of the little jerks. Of course I've since seen two more. One too far away from my new village to lure back and cure, one close but it was almost dawn. Tried to trap him in a hole and hide him, but I got stuck and couldn't get out without killing him. :( I want to cure a second villager so I can get them to start having babies and making more villagers for me to trade with.

posted a message on What's the most useless item in minecraft?
Definitely agree with many that the most useless overall is the dead grass. It's just there for looks. For me personally, the next most useless is redstone. I never have any real reason to make anything that uses it. Maybe some day I'll think of things to do with it, but I'm just really boring. I do at least have some use for it now, with Redstone Blocks. I use a custom Painterly texture pack, and all my ore blocks look like purple obsidian with somethig space-themed set into them. Redstone is a comet, emerald is stars, lapis is a planet, etc. Going to use them to make my magic room.

posted a message on How to Conquer Fear of Caves?
Go peaceful when you're in caves, and/or use cheats. I rage-quit Minecraft a few months back when I was playing and trying to keep mobs on *I almost always played in peaceful before* and got ganged up on by one of every overworld mob but a freakin Enderman. Lost some diamonds as well as plenty of other stuff because I didn't think to go Peaceful before I died. >_< Now, I play with cheats as an option. I've only used one, but it's a great one. Keep items on death. Now it doesn't matter if I die, I never lose anything. Wandering far from home? Just drown/jump in lava/off a cliff and I'm home with all my stuff! I do everything else the "right" way, but I don't want to lose all the stuff I put so much effort into finding, so I'm cheating now. XD

    Quote from Hypertion

    no and yes

they are generally random as far as i know.

hitting any mob with a snowball will "scare" it so yes

of course you can look this up on the wiki yourself.

or click "Villagers" for a direct link to the villager page on the wiki.

you can also easily test this yourself, just make a creative map.

I checked the wiki. Unless I missed something I didn't see any mentions of if it were possible to control what type of villagers you get when you breed/cure them, nor did I see anything Specifically about villagers and snowballs. Just that snowballs don't damage anything but a certain Nether mob, and so they're a good way to push things around without killing them.

I have a couple questions about villagers. First off, when you're curing zombie villagers or having villagers breed in a village you've created, can you do anything to ensure you get certain types of villagers? Like, how would I make sure I wind up with a priest in my village? I cured one zombie villager so far and he turned into a butcher, and I saw a video of someone getting a librarian when a zombie was cured near bookshelves. I'm hoping to make sure I get at least one of each type of villager as I expand my village.

Also, random question, do villagers get angry if you throw snowballs at them? I don't want to try it on my lone villager and have him not trade with me anymore or something, but I was wondering if it was possible to throw snowballs at them without negative consequences or not.

posted a message on Favorite Places to Build Homes
I'm boring. I always just build my home whereever I first spawned into the world. Pretty much always above ground since I only ever play single player and so don't have to worry about anybody stealing my stuff. Sometimes I'll build into the side of a cliff if there's a good sized hill or mountain at my spawn point. I've just never been all that creative. I watched a video last night on curing zombie villagers, and was jealous at the awesome set up the guy making the video had. I'd never have thought to do ANY of the stuff he has going on at his base.

Using a couple buckets is far easier. I know you can make an unlimited supply of water anywhere you want with a small pit and a couple buckets of water. Pretty sure you can do the same with lava. Then you just make a third pit, grab buckets, and keep making obsidian all day long.

How many people have actually taken the time to go to the "far lands" in order to make it worth putting back in? Nobody is going to travel that far in any one direction from normal gameplay. It's only going to happen by someone walking in an absolute straight line for a few real tie days, and that just seems a huge waste on its own.

maybe read this? Of course if you have fun exploring all the stuff on your own without reading what is known, have fun =) Wouldn't want to steal your fun ;) , but just want to say every requirements are known. Sometimes reading some minutes can save you houres.

That post is fairly confusing. All the examples of acceptable houses just show doors. No walls or anything else. I had a hard time making sense of the posts.
