Thank you for the quick edits! I've read through your revised app, and I think you've done your best in making sure its corrected. Although a bit of a writing novice, the effort to properly understand and correct the app was not unnoticed, and I think that's incredibly important in showing that you're willing to grow and learn. On that chance of seeing you improve, this app is

    Accepted!

I hope to see the best from you (as we expect of all of our players!). You'll be whitelisted soon, but in the meantime I would heavily suggest you read through the quick start guide here. Otherwise, here are some helpful links:

Hello! Thank you for your patience, the weekend is often a busy time but now it is the week!

Your app has potential, but it also has some things that need to be corrected before acceptance, so for the time being it is

    Pending

To start, your definition of powergaming is a bit off, but not necessarily wrong! It just lacks some important details. Otherwise, the concept of your character seems very thought through, and I'm sure he'll enjoy being among some of the other golden haired high elves that roam about! (A small note on dark magic as well: while it may carry a stigma in human (and some other) cultures, High Elven culture doesn't really frown upon its use. To them, it is just another form of magic, with its own precautions and uses. Nothing needs to be changed, just giving you some context!)

Onto your character biography, there are a handful of things that need to be edited. While it tells a very specific part of his life story, it doesn't really tell about anything that happened in the world around him. Devan was around for 30 years, he would have at least heard about some of the various goings-on. How did his father react to the invasion of Barkamsted? Where they put in mortal danger because of it? Perhaps he and his father took great interest in the plague that swept through the lands? I'd really like to see some of the recent events of the times (doesn't necessarily have to be these!) incorporated into the backstory, as well as some general sprucing up of punctuation and formatting please.

(Also, it seems your response for the riot scenario was cut short?)

Lastly, while your magic application shows a good understanding of the system, I'd like to see a lil bit more expansion into how the trinket/exhaustion system works. Just as well, a weak trinket wouldn't quite be enough to create shadows that have any physical effect on the real world. I'd suggest reading over the magical limitations guide (here), and editing it to something a bit more fitting for a weak casting level.

Just post on the thread whenever your edits are made! Thank you again for applying, and hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for the quick response! The edits look great, and I love the deeper peering into how the character deals with stress and loss. One final note that's very important to remember, in reference to his involvement with the dwarven band of musicians (brilliant by the way!), is that all characters start on the same level, so to say. While he can be a part of this troupe, he would get no real in-game 'advantage' from it. Other than that, your application is

    Accepted!

Happy holidays, and welcome! Thank ya for the patience, I'll be handling your application from here on!

As a start, I really enjoy your description of RP. It's very much aligned with my own, and it stood out to me. Your character is also very interesting! And it's a very good start, but there are some small details that need to be worked on, so for now the app is

    Pending!

To start off with, half-elves can technically grow facial hair, but it is very rare, so if this is something that you're interested in for your character, do inform us! Otherwise, clean-shaven will be something that Kar can retain effortlessly.

Also, the culture of racism towards half-elves is something that runs very deep. Before Barkamsted became the last bastion of man, it would not be uncommon for the High Elves to seek out and exterminate half elves. A slaughter of them even occurred within the streets of Barkamsted, before the war had ended. However, nowadays such practices have largely been set aside, but the racism has not. It can vary from elf to elf, and from Noble house to Noble house, but half Elves are still very much seen as at least 'lesser', in some sense of the word, by the powers that be in Elven politics.

As a note on Kar's search for "different cultures in non-human cities", it would be nigh impossible to find such a place in Saphriel. While some towns have sprouted up in the years following the end of the Pact war, most of the land of Saphriel remains very dangerous; even to an experienced traveler. Outside of Barkamsted and Falkvard, there are very few places that could be considered truly 'safe'. And none of those places wouldn't have at least some humans. The only exceptions would be the foreign and entirely separate lands of Einar and Acaedia, but traveling to those places would have been unheard of during the years that he traveled around. Not to mention traveling to either island carries their own unique set of dangerous circumstances, even without considering that traveling that far by sea is a death wish in itself.

In regards to Kar's search for his father, Silivrenmir would be a fool's errand, not to mention the wrong place entirely. The once home of the Elven empire, the massive trees that make up the dark forest provide a home for some of the most dangerous beasts in the mainland of Saphriel. Even traveling along the outer edge of the forest is heavily discouraged, let alone within. As such, it is largely abandoned and without civilization. Most High Elven nobles reside in their manors near Barkamsted, though many politically active nobles can be found living with the walls of Falkvard these days.

Lastly, while I really love the basis you have set for your character and who he is currently, I'd like to see some more detail surrounding his life. He narrowly escaped the plague, yes, but did it take away someone close to him? Did he ever have someone that he could consider close to him to be able to lose in the first place? Kar seems partial to Barkamsted, even through his travels. How did he react to the news of the Ca'liar invasion? Surely a response of anger would come naturally, or perhaps he took advantage of it for a great song that always nets some coin? What became of his mother in these events of turmoil, or does he even care at this point?

Whenever you're finished making your edits, please ping the thread and I'll read through it as soon as I can! Thank you and hope to see you around soon!

Thanks for making the edits that you did! It seems you have a solid grasp on the dynamics of the Pact War, although it should be noted that 'the Pact' doesn't necessarily exist as a political entity at the moment. However, the blade of the war still runs very deep, and even though tensions have lessened somewhat, the wounds are still very fresh for many.

    This application is otherwise

    Accepted!

I can't wait to see how your character's story unfolds!

Hi! Thanks for the application and the patience, it's a very good start! I really enjoy the character that you've laid out, and the backstory, but there's unfortunately some minor things that need adjusting, so the app is

    Pending

First thing's first! While Barkamsted itself was under siege pretty often in the very late days of the Pact War, it was also known as the Last Bastion of Man. So, most of the time, orcs and pact races didn't exactly lay waste to the city. However, people did still flee from the oncoming pact forces into small towns and such, which were almost always razed and destroyed during the last years of the war.

Secondly, it's important to note what the orcs are and what the Pact was. The Pact was a selection of races from the far eastern lands of desert and sand, and mostly was comprised of Orcs, Trolls, and Goblins. The desert was a brutal and hostile place to live, and they faced a diminishing supply of food and water. Only the strong survived in the constant war for resources. When the Cult made themselves known to the orcs, they promised fertile land away from the smouldering heat of the desert, though for a price; the utter destruction of humanity. The orcs eventually gathered themselves into a unified front, sweeping up the trolls and goblins as well. This became the entity known as 'the Pact', and they often fought alongside the esoteric Cultists and other creations of the Cult to conquer the land of Saphriel. (I'd suggest reading through the Orc and Goblin race pages, they provide a bit more context)

Most orcs were aligned with the idea of the Pact war. Those that weren't would have to earn their voice in blood against those stronger than them. Which is exactly where Guar'un would have to fit. While it wasn't entirely unheard of to have orcs who were against the war, it would be very strange for an orc to be actively fighting against the Pact. Not saying that this needs to be changed! Just providing some context. However, I do think it's a bit strange he thinks all life is precious, but then kills a handful or two of his own people :P Perhaps a little edit towards his motivations and some context there would be due.

A small note about the bear fight as well; Even orcs, one of the strongest and most durable peoples of Saphriel, would struggle as Gaur'un did against a bear. They're massive creatures, strong and durable, with a lot of fatty tissue that helps protect against wounds. I would suggest a small edit so that Gaur'un weakened the bear a deal in the initial fight, but was overwhelmed. It would be more realistic for Aneworia to finish the bear off that way, but she'd be the luckiest girl in the world to still come out unscathed.

Also, just a small note, but demons generally are few and far between in the current lands of Saphriel. They were largely sealed away at the closure of the last hell gate. The land of Saphriel is actually going through a small period of peace at the moment, at least for the larger cities of Falkvard and Barkamsted.

The thing that would need to be edited the most, I feel, is the magic biography. It's a bit bare on how she discovered her gift. People aren't necessarily inherently privy to the knowledge that they're a mage! A person can go their whole life without ever finding out, actually. However, when a person has Bothimir's Gift, they'll actually be able to feel trinkets (and sometimes other magical items) near them. Perhaps Baro the librarian had a trinket stashed away, or he brought one home, and she happened upon it. (Just a reminder, unless you're a natural casting race, you always need a trinket to cast!) The functional knowledge of how the magic system works, is very good, however! No corrections need there.

Other than that, there are a few spelling and grammar errors, and I think you might have left an old name (Kra'k) in the paragraph about the bear attack. Once you fix those handful of things, I'd be more than happy to take another look at it and welcome you onto the server! Just be sure to ping the thread when the edits are made.

You'll be whitelisted shortly, and again thank you for the patience! I did have one thing I wanted to mention, High Elves are immune to all natural sicknesses, and so a natural 'plague' wouldn't be too much of a worry for them. However, the app looks wonderful and I can't wait to see you around! In the meantime, please feel free to check out this post on the Enjin forums regarding common RP hotspots, if you haven't already!

Hello, thanks for applying and thank you for your patience! Although this is a strong start, the app is unfortunately

    Pending

First off, the app at is core is quite good. Being a dark elf, there is definitely a specific culture that they enjoy to uphold, and it seems your dark elf will fit in just fine with the few that we have. However, there are some minor changes I'd like to see before he's ready to join! Most easily fixed are a couple of spelling errors throughout; while not huge, fixing them is a matter of attentiveness to detail, which is something we really focus on here. I'd also like to see some more details on what happens to Syrul's parents. When he left home, did they stay in the wilds? Perhaps they moved to Barkamsted and were cut down by the Ca'liar during their invasion?

Also, a small comment on your backstory, Elves and Orcs work together like hot oil and water. So for them to band together at all, especially so close still to the end of the pact war, would take nothing short of an incredibly serious threat, something world-ending.

Otherwise, the app is quite good! Please ping the thread once you've updated, and I'll review it then as well!

Sorry about the wait! So, to begin, the basis of your application is absolutely fine. The OOC information and the magic app demonstrate an understanding of the server and its lore. However, I'd like to see some more information about current events in the backstory! How did the plague affect her and her family? Did she or her brother have to stand against the Ca'liar invasion of Barkamsted? There's a lot of potential to fit this character into those events, so add those in, and ping the forums whenever you've made your edits. Thank you!

Also, a final note, a mage wouldn't be able to necessary cause explosions or forceful gusts of wind in their first training. Although some people do struggle more than others when it comes to learning magic, everyone starts out on the same level, and it takes time to get to those sorts of feats.

Thank you for being patient! To start off, it seems you have a really good understanding of our setting and tone, which shows through the way your RP reactions are written and from the replies to the OoC questions above. Although your backstory is altogether well written and pretty good, I'd like to see some more information about some of the other recent events. Specifically, the Ca'liar invasion of Barkamsted and how it did (or didn't!) affect Urban.

After you've added that, you should be good to go! Just ping the thread and we'll reply as soon as possible.
