    One way to do this is though forge events. For spawn probablitiy, you could check either WorldEvent.PotentialSpawns or LivingPackSizeEvent and edit some things here. And for world gen you could subscribe to OreGenEvent. Unless you want to decompile minecraft forge events are going to be the answer. Sometimes however, a pain to work with.

    I always find it easy to do potato farms early game. Either find a village or kill a zombie and get lucky. Only on the first few nights will i be eating apples or cooked meats

    One thing that you could do is follow the thorns enchantment. If you change the type of damage caused to DamageSource.ON_FIRE it may work.
