Roads aren't a bad idea, but I don't see the logic behind creepers, pigs, and sheep not being able to cross them. Are they made of magical livestock repelling stone? Also, people would build them around their forts to protect from creepers. Speed boost to players seems kind of unrealistic too. If Notch were to ever add mounts, I think the speed boost should be applied to mounts rather than players.
I kind of like the idea of massive road construction projects being undertaken to link distant cities together. I suppose that will happen regardless of whether an explicit "road block" is added though.
Probably a free premium gift thing... like that person before. I forgot, 1337th?
The 100,000th person to register an account got free premium.
I cannot help but wonder if giving free premium to the 10,000th purchaser would in fact mean that they did not technically purchase the game and therefore were not the 10,000th purchaser. Ouch.
From the main page:
I personally think he should update free survival to a more recent version. Free survival is woefully unrepresentative of what Minecraft has become. I can see potential purchasers not realizing this and being turned off by how bland it is. Is just my opinion though.
Agreed about opinion, the stats prove you otherwise, people are buying it like gasmasks in a post-apocaliptic world!
Oh? What exactly did I say that the stats prove otherwise? Minecraft is indeed selling very well; said fact does not prohibit the possibility that it could be selling even better if there were a more up-to-date demo.
I'm focusing hard on getting the game to beta, so there will be no more updates to the alpha version of the game until the game reaches beta.
The game enters beta once multiplayer is functional. It'll be a while yet.

How are you people getting monsters? I've shot hundreds of arrows off and have only gotten sheep and pigs. Also, firing arrows into the sea and watching sheep and pigs monsters rise from the depths is great.
I can't say I care for this or see it as particularly necessary. I like that currently all the "rewards" in Minecraft are intrinsic. Your reward for building a huge complex base is that you now have a huge complex base. Your reward for mining 50 diamonds is that you now have 50 diamonds. Presumably, your reward for slaying a megabeast will be that there's no longer a giant lava golem wreaking havoc in your city (and maybe some rare materials as a drop).
I cannot think of any external reward for these accomplishments that would make much sense. Not to be rude, but apparently neither can you, as most of your rewards consist of "such and such" happening. As for having ten unique people place spawn points in a town to generate "income" and become mayor, many people would just exploit proxies to obtain those ten spawn points.
Can you not be satisfied with a map that would likely take months to walk from end-to-end?
Ungh.
But if something as simple as changing a few variable types can enable even larger maps, then why not? Plus, there's the not insignificant performance increase.
Like others have said, e-mail him if you want him to see this. I do not think he reads the forums too much anymore.
Hooray for 256 fog distance! Things won't feel so soupy now. Now if Notch can just find a way to make maps infinitely deep (or at least a lot deeper than 256), I'll be ecstatic.
I don't think torches should set enemies on fire. Considering how easy they are to acquire, it would be overpowered if you could set every enemy you come across on fire. Besides, flesh doesn't burst into flames just from brief contact with fire. Maybe creepers would explode if you hit them with a lit torch though?

Heh. I didn't say that hitting it would be a good idea.
