posted a message on Which pipe/conduit/duct mod for Fabric 1.18.1 and/or without a mod framework?

BAND-AID SOLUTION: I ended up combining 3 mods and regular hoppers to get the behavior I wanted. Not ideal but it gets the job done.

    - Copper Hoppers, to collect from item streams and filter what I needed.

    - Ducts, to flow items in between chests and barrels.

    - Pipe, as the main item carry... as long as it only touches the hoppers, chests and barrels that I want to touch. I also used it where I needed round-robin delivery.

    And vanilla components:

    - Water stream for the primary item carry. I strongly suspect that Pipe would choke on the eventual base's total item flow, so by limiting pipes to one vertical slice I ensure that there isn't "too much" on a single pipe. Too bad I couldn't use Pipez, that one would have easily handled the volume for the whole storage system.

    - Regular hoppers when I have a whole column of the same item.

I will try to add a couple screenshots to show what I got.

Also... I will keep looking for a mod that does it all, or at least more than the individual mods that I am using so far.

(BTW, I tried to edit the original post but there seems to be a time limit for edits :P )

posted a message on Which pipe/conduit/duct mod for Fabric 1.18.1 and/or without a mod framework?

I am very frustrated trying to find the right pipe mod for my Fabric world so that I can build a compact and complex storage system. Any advice would be welcomed.

My needs aren't even complex and most pipe mods "should" handle it:

    - ESSENTIAL: Must be able to place pipes next to things that it "could" connect only to the target you click on.

    - Connect one to many or many to one.

    - In one to many, the ability to do round-robin.

    - Optional: Reliable/faster/low-lag/high-volume is better.

I searched Curseforge for 1.18 Fabric pipe mods and the following were listed (I also viewed every available review on them):

    - Pipez: Most promising, but fails to show items in the vanilla workbench formulas or in REI. Maybe it is not really Fabric compatible?

    - Pretty Pipes: Seem to connect (and try to deliver) to everything around them, no good for me. Warns that it wants Forge, although it is listed under the Fabric listings of Curseforge.

    - Refined Pipes: Promising, but also fails to show items in the vanilla workbench formulas or in REI. Maybe it is not really Fabric compatible?

    - Pipe: Works, but it connects to everything around it by default. It is possible to disable the connections on a "side by side" basis, but you have to have easy access to that side to click/disable, making it quite clunky. Still, it is the only semi-viable pipe mod I found so far.

    - EZ Pipes: Seems to connect to everything it touches, no good for me, even though I really liked the idea of colored pipes that don't connect to each other.

    - Simple BC pipes: Again seems to connect to anything the pipes touch, so no good for me. I think this is intended to evolve into the new BuildCraft for Fabric. (Also, it caused my first crash ever in 1.18 :P )

    - Tiny Pipes: Extremely promising for compact designs. But yet again, it also fails to show items in the vanilla workbench formulas or in REI (I did install the required tiny redstone). Maybe it is not really Fabric compatible?

    EDITS:

    - I found the Ducts mod. It is very simple that connects one source to one destination. Does not solve all of my needs, but it definitely would work for the crowded sections where I want to avoid contact with the containers next to it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll stay off Minecraft AFK when I am working.

posted a message on Drowned-proofing a fishing hole?

I made a convenient little fishing hole by the ocean (currently has no bottom), with walls to protect me from surface enemies and the walls are lit. Of course drowned that spawn far away eventually make it to me interrupting my fishing session.

I know that to get all of the good loot there must be at least 2 blocks deep of water.

If I were to extend the walls down maybe 4 blocks in the water and then add a floor with jack-o-lanterns to make it bright, would that prevent drowned in my fishing hole?

(everything I know tells me yes, but I would hate to trust it and then get "surprised")

SELF-ANSWER: I built it, it works. Got a nice book, looking forward to more.

posted a message on How to make a sound that is heard across the whole world

@Badprenup, thanks for the info. I am going to build that. The occasional thunderstorm is probably not a big deal.

I'd already tried the clock (as a matter of fact I keep time displayed at the corner with MiniHUD too), but I am the kind of person that gets lost in thought and doesn't keep an eye on the time or clock and by the time I notice it, it is 4PM game time. That is why a sound will do the trick, it is sudden, unexpected and will "make me look" :)

posted a message on Does Single Player connect to any servers DURING gameplay?

I assume that Minecraft Single Player has some interactions with "mothership" when starting up. That is NOT what I am asking about and I am completely fine with it.

What I would like to know is whether once the game has started and I am in my single player world... are there any further communications with servers?

For context, I want to launch the game, get into one of my AFK farms, then leave the game running in a window... in the background. Then turn on my work VPN and do my normal work. But of course, I would not want any kind of connection to Mojang's or Microsoft servers to trigger something that could be detected and misinterpreted by my office as if I was actually playing when I am really working.

posted a message on Minecraft 1.18 Update Opinion Thread

    I generally like 1.18.

The only thing I found disappointing was that on my first world the same exact biomes would alternate until I got quite far. It was frustrating not finding a snow biome (and other key biomes as well) anywhere nearby. I ended up giving and starting over after googling a nice seed. I hope this one is better.

UPDATE: The new seed has a similar problem. In this one even after randomly walking for many in-game days (several hours IRL) I still have not encountered a single desert and I have not stumbled across any berries. When I get the stomach for another boring long hike I will use an external map tool to locate those. And for my next map generation I am definitely using a mod.

Been playing Minecraft on and off since the very early days -long before it was popular- although I don't even remember my account name from back then or what year it was. Feels like definitely more than a decade, maybe two?

posted a message on 1.8 Fabric mod to automatically consolidate snowballs picked up into snowblocks?

I find the tiny stacksize of snowballs extremely annoying. Is there a mod to automatically turn them to the more compact snow blocks when picked up?

posted a message on 1.18 Fabric mod to ring bell or alarm at daybreak (6am) that can be heard anywhere?

I would like an alarm or bell sound to remind me to do surface work when the sun comes up.

Seems simple and useful, so I expected it to exist but can't find a Fabric 1.18 mod that does it.

    Does anybody know of one?

If there is no better solution I could go with command blocks to summon lightning and turn it off maybe 5 seconds later.

On the other hand, a bell sound for 5 seconds might be a more pleasant "time to go to the surface" signal.

Thanks for the idea, got me thinking.

Is there a way to automatically craft snowballs into snowblocks? Even better if it can be done a whole chest at a time.

    Maybe a mod?

posted a message on How to make a sound that is heard across the whole world

I want a clearly recognizable loud sound triggered at 6am every minecraft day, no matter where I am on the world. Obviously I want this to remind me to go work do surface work. I figured it would be easy but uncle Google didn't help.

I can think of a few possibilities.

OPTION A - Maybe there is a way already in game to turn this on.

OPTION B - Maybe there is a mod for this.

OPTION C - I can design my own circuit.

    (1) A daylight detector.

    (2) Some circuit that creates a pulse out of the daylight detector. (Google should help or maybe someone can offer a link)

    (3) Some circuit that receives the pulse and generates a sound at a world-wide level. THIS is probably much trickier, especially the bit about issuing the sound at a worldwide rather than just locally as I'd expect the noteblock to do.

OPTION D - Maybe there is a solution that I didn't think about.

    Ideas?

I know that "any" zombie has a small chance to drop stuff, that part was always that way. I am talking about the ones that are *wearing* armor, those "used to" always drop it.
