Mulch, I've experienced a problem that is like yours but I have a sort of different experience with placing source blocks. At certain places, I just cannot place water source blocks. I will place the block, it will disappear and my bucket is empty, but if I click one more time, it will be full again. I can find spots that will allow me to place a source block, and let me pick it back up again. I have found one place that will not let me pick up the source block however. I'm using 12w23b snapshot.
I went and tried a little more before posting this, and it seems like I fixed it. I just deleted my .minecraft folder, which of course, you want to back up the important files unlike what I did, such as your save, the server.dat and whatever else. I then let minecraft redownload, and then updated to the 12w23b snapshot, made a new game, for creative, and messed around a little before trying to place water source blocks. I was able to place them with no fuss whatsoever, and tried different places too.
I totally agree with this. My main concern for bugs is for the leaves. I enjoyed letting them deteriorate. But the bugs are all high priority in my book.
Honestly I just want current bugs to be fixed and for mobs, damage, and other features to work properly in SMP. I can wait for lanterns, additional mobs, and crafting recipes.

Another nice idea from the other thread was having enviromental danger instead of mob danger. Like cristals that emit deadly rays of light when in dirrect sunlight, or lots of gravel and sand arround the edges of the floating islands, whiteout during high day (as oposed to darkness during the night in the overworld). Slippery blocks, windy blocks, a mob that's using gust of winds that push you over the edge - awesome stuff.
Yeah, environmental danger sounds like something unique only Paradiso/Aether/whateveryouwanttocallit. I like this idea.
Yeah, those ghasts are trouble, but its not you sucking at the game, I've had the same scenario happen to me. I find it find fun to dodge the fireballs, and then look back at the destruction, flames and holes the ghasts make.
I find equal safety in both realms. My Nether-side portal is located on a very thin island above a lake of lava, so it's constantly being repaired with hellstone (I could use cobble, but I like to keep that "look"). In the normal world when night falls, I'm safe in my house where mobs gather around until the sun burns them up, or I kill them from a safe distance.
XD Yeah, I'm thinking it would be VERY useful. There have been countless times where I was down in a shaft and wanted to mine a block but couldn't because I was always trying to keep my position, but always lost it.
Just a keyboard button that could be pressed that would keep you in place in a ladder, that way you can mine away surrounding stone, place more stone or torches. It could be implemented like sneaking around. You could even use the Shift key as well. So what do you guys think? Do you have any better ideas? I'd like to hear your feedback.
MrTummnus, if I understand you correctly, you're referring to the portal glitch. I can assure you that I know it isn't due to this glitch. I didn't die the first time in The Nether, so I know where my second portal exists. The portal I am talking about in this thread is a third portal that I discovered on my map. Currently there is three portals leading to one portal in The Nether right now.
I was just exploring around looking at the landscape and such, when I stumble on a portal. A portal I didn't create, nor knew existed till I stumbled upon it. I found it very strange. I'm sure the portal wasn't created by a chunk error, because I had been to this part of the map and had bot seen it at all. I believe it was only created after The Nether was generated for me.
Another user seems to have had the same thing happen as well Here.
I'm wondering if anybody else out there has experienced this, along with a possible explanation as to why it happened. It's a very curious matter in my opinion, because I had been thinking of the possibility of finding "natural" portals in the Minecraft world, and here I actually found one.

XD I was thinking the same thing when I heard it. I just thought it happened because I was on the ledge of the block when I stopped sneaking
