posted a message on AOGX Be Realm'n.

Here's something different. The AOGX have a realm. Yes that AOGX from good old CS days. No longer pwning noobs, or necro spraying bodies, we're old now. It's just me and the infamous Tbone currently, and we are looking for the more mature crowd to hang out with. (Us being you know, older now, I'm close to 40 who knew) Of course vanilla survival, those of the female persuasion are of course welcome because if anyone knows chicks rock at gaming, it is us. Even if you think you may not be close enough in age, I reccomend at least trying. I even reached out to a nearly 70 year old and a 25 year old because the interview was so good. Voice is a huge plus because well typing can stink while gaming and we love to chat. Hit me up!

AOGX is a community for friends, not a clan. We are looking for some new friends, who happen to game and play minecraft.

Reach me here on the forum or this post if it is the only way you can. I say this only because I don't just sit here. I do check the forum regularly though so no pressure.

posted a message on Easy Difficulty is Too Hard
    Quote from C1ff»

I can kinda relate to this since I'm a bit of a n00b even after four-ish years of playing the game, mostly because I do a lot of stupid stuff like jumping into a group of monsters thinking I can kill them all.

That being said, I think I'm the exception to the rule. I also find that people who think the game should be easier tend to say it's too hard for their kids. That's fair since Normal and Hard exist to make the game harder, so why shouldn't Easy be easy enough for the lowest age demographic the game appeals to, namely 10-year-olds?

Alright so what about these changes?

Eh... Maybe on its own, but I wouldn't do that in addition to all the other additions.

    Seems reasonable.

    Agreed.

Hmmm maybe? I haven't had a lot of experience with drowned yet, but I do think the fact they spawn in any water with a light level of 7 sounds annoying.

Again, haven't had a lot of experience with these guys yet so I'll have to take your word for it.

Food depletion in general is kinda ridiculous, so you're not alone on this one.

Now, in defense of Minecraft as it currently stands, I don't think even in Easy mode monsters should be incompetent. But I do think they do deserve a little bit of a nerf.

    Mostly Support.

I agree 95% with this response. The only reason I do not 100%, is I have dealt with the drowned a lot, and I can see the viewpoint you may have with this. I have witnessed my daughter get slaughtered over and over with these things.

As said, nerf, not incompetent. I personally cannot test to the difficulty of easy because I started out on normal, and have played hard for years. I do see a lot of what you said though through my kids.

"fishing in a game mechanic pretty much sucks in most games,"

This is very true. Like most of the popular fishing games of all time, involve you in an underwater view watching yourself reeling in the lure, and seeing the fish as you do. I mean, really? WoW fishing is ok in the sense you never know exactly what you are going to get and you really have to hunt for the good stuff, but that's pools of water. Lack of fishing freedom. FFXV fishing was cool because of the fishing upgrades to catch big game fish, and the fact it fit in the cooking buff system along with time of day fish. But on a whole, lacked freedom and hid behind a linear path game system. The only decent fishing is fishing sims, and they still have many flaws.

I think if (Opinion here) MC added variety (of catchable fish), it would further nerf drops in afk farms and add a (little) bit of spice to actual fishing. Again this is clearly opinion because there are people who do not touch fishing period so adding more does nothing for them.

    Quote from Romaq»

For people who *do* enjoy fishing, such as my wife, how could fishing as a game mechanic be made compelling for people like my wife, and done so that AFK fishing doesn't make sense? If you can solve, "make fishing not suck," I think you'd solve the "remove AFK fishing" problem.

I love fishing in RL and I do dig most of the fishing in MC. In fact it is my prefered food in MC. Sometimes I do fantasize about how I wish there were fish traps, river nets, ocean nets, and deep water throw lines, so I could go off and do other things while waiting for food, but it is not implemented, and probably never will be. In a real scenario finding water then food to start with, then worry about shelter and then scout. It is a little backwards here. It's make sure I have wood and a shelter, then find food and I do not need water except in my case to catch my food. For the fishing here to not "suck," it will never happen because it's all based on opinion. It can never be agreed upon.

Mojang debunked this reasoning with the introduction of the crafting book and advancements. They ensure a player completely detached from the "community" will understand how you are supposed to play from the game's explanations alone. So should there be an "afk fish farm" tutorial? Regular mob spawners are simple. You got the spawner, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out some basic farms. But afk fishing relies on inside knowledge on how block ticks work... or looking up the wiki.

Which proves my point. After you have the eyes, where do they go? Crafting recipes do not tell you they go in a strong hold. Just in ender chests. Which according to everyone who uses "late game" as a viable term, is KEY to the game. How do you find out? The answer is the same as afk fish farms no matter how you look at it. Look it up, Wiki, YouTube, ask someone, stumble upon it on your own. Etc. So no, it's not "Debunked." Also with it becoming a feature, I believe it already is.

Also, why do you need to defend Iron Farms or AFK Fish Farms if you acknowledge their lack of balance? Why do you feel the need to defend the freedom to effectively turn Survival Mode into some weird combination between Survival Mode and Creative Mode that doesn't need to exist?

I don't need to. It's a choice. Just like I ignored AGTRigomortis' very next comment after our posts. Granted it was not adressed to me because he quoted you, and most likely thinks by you saying there is a lack of balance, that you needed to argue your point. Doesn't matter we both chose to move on.

As far as some quasi survival/creative mode. The only thing you have to do in survival is get food, and depending on your difficulty setting, that is not even true. So is it really a true survival game? My kids when playing by themselves, use survival as a challenging creative map.

If everyone loves these farms, why not make them legit features in the game.

How about a new, underwater dungeon, home to a “fishing spawner” which provides fish and treasure.

You cannot expect a new player to know placing a bunch of trapdoors and pressure plates in a very certain configuration will grant the afk fishing techniques. So if it “doesn’t matter” like everyone so claims-

    Make it legit.

Anyone that new, isn't going to know how you all suggest how to play the game either.

I mean, how do you know about afk fish farms?

The likelihood is small. If it was to happen that the person had no contact with MC prior at all, they know no one that plays or play with no one that hasn't played before. The odds of them learning are quite high by the fact how many people know. I mean they have to learn how to make eyes of ender, but once they do... where does that go? The answers are the same in anyway you answer the "how do they learn where they go" question.

We have suggested "actual ways of fixing it" multiple times throughout this argument. In my first post, for example, I suggested bait items be required in order to fish. This is beyond the scope of the current suggestion, however, which simply suggests an end to AFK Fish Farms in general.

I was suggesting in a different thread.

    Quote from C1ff»

He was the one who initiated an argument for AFK Fish Farms in that they should stay because they're not "super totally game-breaking", but even if what you were saying was true, then trying to convince us the non-worth of an item is also not making a point.

    This was in general.
    Quote from C1ff»

A valid point, but from what we've seen perhaps it's better that this suggestion was made anyway because if someone were to suggest actual ideas, people would attack them for getting rid of AFK Fish Farming instead of critiquing the ideas.

They have been suggested before, without the arguments. I'd say see fishg's thread, but I was notified you already had because I've already said generally, I like it. I hope it polishes up. Also, if they cannot take it, maybe the internet is a bad place.

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

I've been debated, mocked, and still kept on trucking. All I did was defend Mojang's decision to keep it all these years. As much as I detest Iron farms, I'll go to bat for them too.

    Here is my suggestion:

    https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/suggestions/2895161-fishing-overhaul

However, the simple fact I've realized is the quickest and most controversial suggestions get the most feedback, while smaller yet simple suggestions get far less, and larger complex suggestions are rarely read in their entirety. But I encourage you to read mine or any other fishing overhaul (there are a few older ones, do a search on the forum) and reply to that. I agree that this endless debate is going no where.

I've been there mate. Said it was generally a good idea. I just didn't like it had some focus on the afk fishing aspect, because then that would be the focal point, and detract from a really good idea.

    ""It's meant to be challenging!"

If you don't know what a challenge is, don't try to force your definition of one onto us. Having a ghost that haunts you no matter what or where and damages you until you perform an exorcism is not a challenge, it's an irritation. The challenge of Minecraft is to have a be able to avoid mobs in the safety of our homes, and having a ghost that can pop up and hurt you whenever it feels like it smacks the gameplay right in the face. There's a distinct difference between a challenge and a nuisance."

Apparently some people have forgotten this, this is very evident by the looks of the replies from the OP of this thread.

The suggestion that was made was similar to this, except it required you to go hunt for an extremely rare item in another dimension, just to avoid the annoyance. This doesn't appear to be an idea most players would get behind, I certainly wouldn't, friends on my server wouldn't, neither did some others replying here or another forum.

Why did you quote me when what you said clearly has nothing to do with what I said?

I mean how did this thread even become a thing. It was a blanket statement saying it was bad. I remember when suggestions here had to have an outlined idea for implementing or fixing things followed with ideas and/or steps to improve it. It mitigated most arguing and actually talked about the real suggestion.

I would actually love the idea of more/better spawned patrols, or a forced raid adaption. Take some redstone (and some other materials), and a nautilus for instance and make a 5 minute warning horn or something. That way those that want to know about a forced raid, would be able to have a little time to prepare. Obviously you do not want the warning, do not make it. I would love to combine a defending game feature along with surviving. Maybe that should be a new game period...hmmm. Up until recently, Our base was considered a village (we had placed some villagers inside deep in the bowels), and was the only way we could force a raid on our base.

Nearly 7 years ago 1,4,2 drops and the primitive afk fishing machine was born. People were calling foul, because a person could gain exp fast and not be anywhere near their computers for periods of time. Essentially doing nothing to get something. It was Minecraft news that shook multiple forums. No one cared they were getting fish. Obvious, I know.

Nearly 6 years ago 1.7.2 drops and a massive change happened. Treasure added including enchanted books. The masses went at it with "You should only be able to find (saddles, nametags, enchanted books, enchanted rods) in actual treasure chest." However a lot of people realized they also added junk to up the random gamble it was to fish. Also, the drops of fish and junk were high compared to the rest. I believe it still is, just not the same numbers.

Nearly 3 and 1/2 years ago 1.9 drops and mending became a thing. Afk fish farms now could be extended and the new book would become exploited due to other farms as would not fit the aim of extending use of tools, but become virtually indestructible. The outcry was loud and long. Some of those same people I imagine are still on about it today that were then.

The same arguments being made today in the present, have been made before. You want this to change? I suggest new material. I also suggest making actual ways of fixing it, then to just argue whether it is an exploit, or if you like it or not. Also, trying to prove the worthiness of an item to a person whom sees no value in a particular item, isn't making a point. If mending wasn't backed by exploited exp farms or farmables, the value of mending would be low as it's intended feature of over time repairs. You know what item is rare and worthwhile to me? A book with Protection IV. I am sure someone out there gets it more than I do. Luckily, its a common enchant when directing enchanting as piece of armor on the table. Otherwise, I'd have way more mending than protection enchants.

Certain angles while in a boat cause it to clip the boat (while reeling) and drop. Same thing depending on height, edges, and angle.

Did you just say afk fish farms cause lag, and yet talk about it is ok using iron farms and grinders, along with putting redstone up to light up your arena idea?
