Yet books STILL cost more in Canada than they do in the U.S., which I find funny.

That's because most of those books are made in the US and we Americans refuse to admit our economy's been thrashed.

My votes were for furniture in new mobs. Furniture in particular is a big want of mine because I'm tired of seeing so many buildings with giant empty floors. The NPC villages so many people want do sound interesting but I'm a bit skeptical about how well they would actually work in practice.

It's Simon's voice that makes it, of course.

And Wizards of the Coast didn't invent cards either, but that didn't stop them from suing people who tried to make CCGs that competed with Magic: the Gathering.

If you think all Minecraft is, is blocks, then I'm quite surprised with you.

Again, I'm not saying Mojang should sue anyone, just pointing out there are precedents to this situation.

Actually, 1 Canadian dollar is equal to 0.974 US dollars.

US money is worth more than Canadian money. This is also proven because a Canadian penny is worth less than an American penny.

False. You've got the values mixed up. USD 1 = CAD 0.974

I have no opinion one way or the other with regards to FC but I do take issue with the hordes of people claiming you can't stake a claim to an idea. Those of you saying Notch has no legal standing to sue ought to read up on Intellectual Property:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectual_property

Keep in mind companies have sued over far, far more dubious claims. Amazon claims patent to the concept of one-click ordering, and Wizards of the Coast owns all the patents relating to the very idea of a Collectible Card Game (CCG).

posted a message on The Great 1.4 Suggestion Poll - Round 3!
Welcome to the third (and most likely final) round of voting in The Great 1.4 Suggestion Poll. The purpose of this poll is to gauge the Minecraft community's most-wanted additions to Minecraft in the next major content patch.

    Round 1 (Nominations): http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=191102
    Round 2 (Voting): http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=193430

In the poll, you may vote for two things to add to Minecraft. I will make any reasonable effort I can to bring this poll to Notch's attention (including a trip to Sweden, if anyone's willing to fund the expedition). The ten options you see are the top ten of twenty-five nominations that were voted on in Round 2. A clarification of the choices follows:

New Mobs (Aggressive and/or Passive) - You are voting for the addition of new aggressive and/or passive mobs, not including NPCs (as this has its own voting option).

Weather - You are voting for the addition of any weather conditions, such as rain, snow, etc.

New Furniture - Colored beds? Wall clocks? Chairs and tables? If you want to see any of these added, vote here.

NPCs/NPC-built Villages (such as Pigmen and Pigmen villages) - If you want to see NPCs and structures/settlements built by these NPCs, vote for this one.

Nether Update/New Nether Content - Vote here if you support additional content for the Nether.

Improved Minecart System (such as Minecarts Mk. II) - Vote here if you want to see an improvement or expansion of the minecart system. This is also the one to root for if you want to see Minecarts Mk. II added to the game. For an explanation of Minecarts Mk. II, see here:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102192

New Lighting Options (such as lanterns, fireplaces, etc.) - Vote here if you want any new items or features to light your world and buildings, such as lanterns, fireplaces, any form of portable lighting devices, and so on.

New Underwater Content (such as diving/breathing equipment) - Vote for this one if you want to see anything like diving bells, scuba suits, breathing equipment, or underwater content in general (such as underwater flora and/or fauna).

New Ores/Alloys (such as copper, tin, bronze, silver, etc.) - If you're hoping to see any metals in the game, vote for me!

Aether (a new dimension, as suggested in the Suggestions Board) - Vote here for the Aether realm, a heaven analog to the Nether's hell. For a description of this very popular idea from the Suggestions Board, look here:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81138&hilit=aether

    Honorable Mentions:

These are three suggestions from Round 2 that didn't make the cut, but I'd like to give a special mention to because they are very simple in nature, easy to implement and (hopefully) uncontroversial potential additions to the game. They are not up for voting, but I thought they deserved a bit of the spotlight:

Fence Gates: Received 18 votes in Round 2 of the voting. Fence Gates would improve the functionality of gates greatly.

New Stairs: Received 5 votes in Round 2. With the addition of new slabs, it seems like a good idea to add some new stairs as well. Fans of desert biomes (such as me) would appreciate sandstone stairs.

Gravestones: Received 3 votes in Round 2. Didn't garner too much attention in Round 2, but I like the idea of a gravestone popping up at locations where the player died. Would add to the ambiance of Minecraft and doesn't seem like a difficult addition.

I've set the poll to run 14 days. I'll make every effort to get the word out of the vote, and I encourage you to do so as well. If you happen to know Notch, let him know the Great 1.4 Suggestion Poll is here. It is my highest goal to ensure the voices of Minecraftia reach Notch's ears. Thank you for your participation, and happy voting!

Thank you! Round 2 is now officially closed!

You may continue to post here, but the voting is officially over.

    The Results:

Top 10 - Moving On To Round 3

60 Votes - 2 New Mobs (Aggressive and Passive)
    59 Votes - 7 Weather
52 Votes - 1 New Furniture (Including Colored Beds and Wall Clocks)
    52 Votes - 3 NPCs/NPC-built Villages (Including Pigmen/Pigmen Villages)
    35 Votes - 8 Nether Update/More Nether Content
30 Votes - 4 Improved Minecart System (Such as Minecart Mk. II)
28 Votes - 6 New Lighting Options (Including Lanterns and Fireplaces)
28 Votes - 9 New Underwater Content (Including Diving/Breathing Equipment)

    25 Votes - 21 Aether

    Runners-Up

    25 Votes - 17 Pets/Tamable Animals

    22 Votes - 11 Trap Doors/Pitfalls
19 Votes - 16 Boss Monsters (Including Dragons)
    18 Votes - 22 Fence Gates
    17 Votes - 18 Higher Vertical Limit
16 Votes - 13 New Transportation (Including Cars and Horses)

9 Votes - 15 New Weapons (Including Guns and Crossbows)
    8 Votes - 20 Improved Dungeons
    5 Votes - 19 New Stairs
    5 Votes - 25 Telescopes/Binoculars
    3 Votes - 24 Gravestones
    1 Vote - 23 Seasoned Wood

But wait! you say. There was a tie between Aether and Pets, each receiving 25 votes. As creator of the Great Suggestion Poll, I have broken the tie in favor of Aether. Why Aether?

    1) Aether is a well-fleshed out and popular suggestion in the Suggestions Board:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81138&hilit=aether

    2) In a recent tweet, Notch has confirmed there will be pet dogs in the game, which partially nullifies the need to suggest pets to him, which is the primary purpose of the Great Suggestion Poll:

    http://twitter.com/notch/status/42773768975810560

The top 10 suggestions will be moving on to round 3, which is most likely to be the final round of voting (unless the mighty blocky masses clamor for another round of voting, this is my first go at a poll of this scale). Round 3 will be up shortly, I'll link to it once it's ready.

Once again, thank you everyone! Due to the success of this, I'm thinking of making the Great Suggestion Poll a monthly feature.

posted a message on Jag älskar Sverige!
Has this game given you an appreciation for how great Sweden is, and how big of an influence this tiny Scandinavian country has had on the Western World? Minecraft's Swedish origin got me thinking about how Swedish culture has trickled outside its borders.

Around the same time I started playing Minecraft, I got into the wonderful acoustic guitar work of Jose Gonzalez (yes, he's Swedish, his parents are from Argentina). Jose Gonzalez has a fairly robust following outside of Sweden, but he's not the first Swedish act to make it big in the West - I'm sure you all remember the pop sensation ABBA.

Take a look at the Amazon bestsellers in books and you'll inevitably see a couple books by Swedish writer Stieg Larsson, whose books have met huge success in translation and led to several film adaptations. Going back a few decades, the film-buffs here are no doubt familiar with Ingmar Bergman, considered one of the greatest directors of all time for such films as The Seventh Seal.

Basically, I'm very impressed with how such a small country has made such a big impact on the world. I've seriously considered studying Swedish as a result, not that it's necessary, as all Swedish people speak English so beautifully. Thank you, Notch, for adding another notch (ha, ha) to Sweden's belt.

P.S. The thread title, in addition to being true, is a reference to this wonderful German song:

Let it be resolved that Notch is indisputably the greatest thing to come out of Sweden since the 1970s pop sensation ABBA.

Let it be resolved that a country as great as Sweden deserves to be ruled by a man who is just, wise and commands the support of many allies.

Let it be resolved that current King Carl XVI is not a successful indie game developer, and has, in fact, never even programmed a computer game for the good of the Swedish people.

Therefore, let us petition the Riksdag to declare Markus Persson to be King Notch of Sweden.

In these troubling times, let us unite behind Notch and remember our glorious motto, För Sverige i tiden!
