I'm afraid I don't know what I'm doing with the .xml reteo pointed me towards. The latest version of COG I can find is "CustomOreGen-1.7.10-1.2.24," but it's clearly been updated since then. I'm afraid I don't know my way around github to download a newer version. If that's even the right way to go about it?

Would you mind explaining how to get the most up-to-date files for COG? Maybe that'll help solve things.

My only evidence is that I'm not getting smooth movement through the world when COG is installed, and things get better when it's yanked. I've tried stripping down to Botania, Tinkers, Chisel2, a couple of storage mods, and the usual WAILA/NEI/Optifine stuff. It's a lot *better*, but there's still a regular hitch while moving.

I hope the request for help didn't come across as an accusation. :) I only build packs for family use, I run a server and client on the same three-year-old box, and I'm a scrub at some of this stuff. If there's a problem, I'm sure it's a configuration (or hardware) issue on my end.

I'll try a profiler (Opis, I suppose?) and see if that helps track things down. Reteo's advice for updating Sprocket might generate better configs than my hand-edited ones, too. Thanks for the responses!

So! I'm trying to use CustomOreGen in a pack with Chisel2, Flaxbeard's, Forestry, Harvestcraft, Railcraft, Thaumcraft 4, and Tinker's Construct. (There's a lot of other stuff, but those are the mods with worldgen ores.)

I'm having severe performance issues -- the server can't keep up, and it's unplayable.

What's strange is that the lag persists even if I pregenerate a big swatch of the world using WorldBorder. COG shouldn't slow things down if new chunks aren't being generated, should it? But it seems to do so.

I've turned off oregen in the above mods' configs and removed the "Original Overworld Block Removal" sections from each module's custom .xml file. I don't think COG should be replacing anything but vanilla ores, which I don't know how to keep from generating. Anyway -- this didn't help much.

I've tried using Sprocket to generate new configs, but the resulting XML causes this error: "CustomOreGen Config Error at Element <Cloud> [line 293]: Cannot inherit settings ('PresetStratum' is not a loaded distribution)."

Does anyone have performance-improving advice for COG? I'm out of ideas. I can provide more detailed error or config info, if anyone thinks it'll help.

posted a message on Reika's Mods (Tech, WorldGen, Civilization, and more)

Hi there! I'm putting together a set of mods for personal use, and I'd like to mostly focus on Reika's mods. I'm also interested in trying out Metallurgy, for no particularly good reason. More stuff to collect?

Anyway, I was wondering -- can RotaryCraft machines process Metallurgy ores? If not, I probably need to include some other processing solution or ditch Metallurgy. Can anyone let me know whether these mods play well together so I don't have to try and fail on my own? :)

I really think the new Thaumometer scanning mechanic needs work. I am enjoying Thaumcraft 5 a lot, but there are two new dynamics that are making scanning un-fun for me.

Mainly, it used to be obvious what you'd already scanned, because you could see its aspects. You could tell when you'd checked something off the list. Not so in Thaumcraft 5 -- I have no idea what I might have neglected to scan, and no idea what research branches are locked, so I don't even have clues about what kind of things to scan to unlock the research that I don't know what it is! It's all very opaque.

The methodical approach of TC4 was frankly awful when starting a new instance. It took soooo much scanning to get a proper start. But this approach is actually less fun, because it's all failure! Mostly, when you scan something, you get nothing, even the first time. It doesn't even get ticked off a list. You'll probably scan it five more times just to make sure you scanned it once! Constant failure, no clear direction, few rewards -- I guess it's kind of like science that way...

If I could clearly tell what I'd already scanned, that would help. If I could get clues to what I still needed to scan, that would help a lot. Maybe this could play into the currently-purposeless Research Fragments? Could they reveal (but not unlock) unrevealed branches? Or suggest objects to scan? If the floating question marks disappeared when you'd scanned their item, that would even be something.

The scanning system needs more direction and/or communication, IMO, but I'm having a great time. Research puzzles are too easy, though. Maybe take some aspects away for some researches? Or penalize using the same compounds over and over? Take half the evil from scanning and add it to research notes and we're set. :)

In TC5, will taint (once spawned) consume the world, if left unchecked? Or does it stop spreading once it's drained enough of the local Vitium aura?

I haven't found nearly enough Shimmerwood trees to encircle the mess, so it's relocate, restart or Wuss Mode (shudder) if it's unstoppable without lots of unfarmable resources.

Are there any texture packs that work well with Thaumcraft 5? I've never bothered much with texture replacements, but I'm trying to teach my five-year-old about the hazards of irresponsible magic, and she likes shiny things.

There is a bit of a problem at the moment with updating due to buffers. A new NBT tag was added to the buffer, and all your old buffers are missing said tag. Now when the world tries to load the buffer, it finds it is missing that tag and has no idea what to do(Hence the crash). Load the world in an older version, remove the buffers, then update.(You could also use something like MC edit to remove the offending buffers)

Aw yiss! Destroying the essentia buffer in the older version and re-updating solved the problem entirely. Thanks for the help.

I'm trying to update a Thaumcraft 4.2.0.1 world to 4.2.1.4, and as soon as I get near my laboratory of madness, I get the client-side crash inside the spoiler tag. Can anyone give me tips on how to resolve it? I'm a bit new to running modded servers and clients, and it's entirely possible that I have done something dumb while trying to set up the new client and server files.

Also, if I've posted this in the wrong forum or in the wrong format, let me know and I'll go to the right place.

posted a message on Climate Control - change climate zones sizes, ocean sizes, and more
A quick question: if I am trying to generate a ClimateControl world with BoP biomes, should I pick 'default' or 'Biomes o Plenty' as the world type?

posted a message on ExtrabiomesXL Universal 3.16.3 for MC 1.7.10
I can't seem to get ExtraBiomesXL 1.1 to work with MCPatcher's CustomColors. I have to deselect that one, or everything crashes before I can get to a menu. The HD font and texture fixes don't cause a problem. I've tried fiddling with load orders and nothing seems to solve the issue.

Is this normal? I'm not really clear on what CustomColors does -- do I even need it? I intend to play with the GeruDokuRPG pack, if all goes well.

Remove custom_terrain_39.png from the /anim/ folder.

Thanks a ton! Great looking pack, malevolent hypnograss aside.

I'd really like to play with this texturepack -- it's one of the few that supports ExtraBiomes -- but the animated grass makes me queasy and afraid.

Is there any way I can lobotomize my copy of the texturepack to remove this feature? A file I can delete or replace?
