Jan 15, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from cameron1124 »Yah i agree the ranges that names appear on are too far. I think names should appear at about 10 blocks that way if you actually trying to talk to them you know your name but if you want your base hidden then he wont find you.
that is a bit too extreme, names should be as far as they are now. its the seeing through walls that has to go.
Jan 15, 2011yes, it does. theres nothing hidden, no sneak attacks, no secret bases. its impossible when someone 100 blocks away can see exactly where you are standing. sneaking (shift) works, but you cant craft or talk when your holding down shift.Posted in: Discussion
The game needs to block player names through blocks, and make sneaking mask your sounds and your name until your within sword distance.
its just so pathetic, building a nice base and having someone crash through the ceiling in pvp servers because they saw your name through 100 blocks of stone. its equally pathetic being able to see that person coming. i understand its alright for creative but... comoooon maaan

Do you speak good English? (Y/N) yes
What's your native language? English
Why do you want to become a member on this server? A mmorpg minecraft server, just perfect.
You will be given the ability to use fire; do you understand it's not a toy, and should not be used to burn the leaves off entire forests? I understand the dangers of fire as i have burnt down many of my own houses in singleplayer by accident.
Give a good example of a way to use fire that is not server-destructive: clearing the leaves off a tree to get at the wood easily
Have you read all the rules? (Y/N) yes, ]
where does $$$ go?

You need a three wide canal with reeds blocking the flow every four or five blocks in between them. Alternativly, stack signs.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player

Oct 30, 2010Posted in: Alpha - Minecraft Halloween UpdateQuote from JoseyWales »Quote from Metavex »Currently a lot of people are having an issue where they enter a portal from the real world, then when they take the portal back they end up somewhere else in the real world with a second portal created. Both portals in the real world will lead to the same portal in the nether, but the nether portal will only lead to the second and unwanted portal.
In the nether, you tend to notice the odd giant lake of lava. When you enter a portal from the real world it will try to make a portal in the corresponding nether position. However sometimes it cannot build an exit portal in that position (it can't build portals on lava) and as such will build an exit portal in the nearest valid position.
If you have the bug, you'll notice your exit portal is close to a ledge / lava lake.
Since the exit portal is not in the correct position, when you take it back to the real world it'll make a new portal in the real world position that corresponds to the incorrect position of the nether portal.
1. With your two real world portals, calculate the distance between them along the x and the z axis (I just walked between them and placed a torch every 10 steps to help count).
2. Divide both of these values by 8 (for some reason 1 step corresponds to 8 in the real world, not the previously advertised 16).
3. Figure out which direction in the nether corresponds to direction in the real world(if you enter a portal facing west, you'll come out the other side facing west)
4. Build a platform in the nether above the lava x and z units in the correct direction
5. Build a new portal in the nether in the correct spot(so now you have two in the nether and two in the real world)
6. Done! If you calculated the distances / direction correctly, the newly made portal should lead to your original portal in the real world and vice versa, you can destroy the other two portals if you choose.
The fact that someone had to create a ****ing algebra algorithm to solve a bug of an important update addition is absolutely aburd.
do you even know what algebra is, do you even know what an algorithm is??? just stop talking you silly human.

Couldnt he just copy paste the code, and just add in the network capabilities? It seems like it would be extremely easier, unless im missing something only programmers know?
Yes, you are, i dont see how you could have thought that as obviously notch has taken his time implementing things in SMP. are you daft.
