How am I supposed to get there? You realise there's a block limit, right?

That's what cubic chunks does. It raises the height limit without lag by splitting chunks vertically. I suggest you look it up.

Cubic chunks is a Minecraft idea that I lay by my heart, but it's shrouded in a veil of uncertainty, as with the lighting and falling problems. But cuchaz's proposal for a lighting engine and the Tall World's Mod has given me the courage, but not the capacity. With your help, we can peel back the veil, mold the idea, and hopeful get mojang to add it. I really hope that everyone considers this idea because I believe that this will be a wonderful addition to Minecraft that would completely change the wonders of going up.

For cuchaz's proposal, I decided to add a somewhat arbitrary limit to the height of the map, splitting it into layers.

My ideas will be to add the abandoned sky dimension and have it generate 25000 blocks up, have villages populated with pigmen underground, and have the anther (heaven) 512 blocks above the nether roof.

Note: Cubic chunks splits chunks vertically as well as horizontally; reducing lag and getting rid of the height limit.

I know that there's already mods for that, but I'm discussing a much more complex mod which adds constellations, analemas, and planets. This would probably have to have secondary movements, layered backgrounds, and such. The moon follows the sun when it's new and the opposite when it's full (and always a degree higher). There can be a latitude slider which marks the position of the analemas (so you can have 6 Minecraft months of day at the north pole). This also moves the position of the constellations, which planets move through. You can't see Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto without a telescope, which is crafted out of iron, glass, and Redstone and can be made more powerful with more redstone. When there's more artificial and/or bright light, the stars and galaxies are fainter. I think that this will be a great ascetic improvement that spices up the day/night cycles.

    That's cute, if hopelessly naive.

In fact, most people on this thread have slapped you with a big, fat no support. Five, to be exact. Six, counting me. The only potential supporter you have didn't even state his support and simply leapt into defending your suggestion. That's one to six, a vast majority. It's simple statistics.

Even if you had a million supporters, however, I still wouldn't post this suggestion. I'll give you a lovely little quote from the Suggestion Guide that was good enough to be pinned on the front page for all to see, the guide which I would really suggest you read.

"A lot of people suggested it, so Mojang should give it to us!"

This excuse comes from people that think they understand game development, but actually don't. The human race seems to mistake "popularity" and "good" as meaning the same thing. Me making a thousand alternate accounts and suggesting that "hurr nukes!!!" be added to the game does not make my idea good.

Replace "suggested" with "supported", and there you go. "Popularity" does not mean "good," but as your suggestion has basically nobody supporting it anyway, I don't see why you need this lecture.

Anyway, to the suggestion. The name "hermit" is just really jarring to me. "Player" was bad but an improvement. While I like the old Steve models, I really don't think they should be their own mob, because there's simply no reason for it. Of course, those are simply minor personal nitpicks.

The problem is the block breaking.

I know, you can theoretically protect your house from being griefed. What hasn't been mentioned, however, is the absolute havoc this thing would wreak on the terrain. It would mangle the ground and tear up forests, and anyone that would want that can very easily tear the world apart themselves. This mob sounds harmless at first, but with Minecraft's AI development, there is no foreseeable way of making this work. If you can think of something, best of luck.

Onward, then, to everyone else's argument! What if this creature tore apart your house? Pr0kKiLlEr said to suck it up, but that's a horrible excuse. You said to make it not destroy player-placed blocks, which does have some merit, but you're still trying to defend something that doesn't work. Villagers don't do this, and for excellent reason: It would take quite a lot of effort and accomplish nothing of value. There is no reason for this to exist.

    No support.

I jsut realized that this idea is terrible.

Btw my post earlier was a half-joke.

And I don't want to harp on you or anything, but I hope you learned now that people take this Suggestions forum very seriously and it's held to be a place for fleshed-out, fully-written suggestions. If you want to discuss your ideas with people, do it in Discussion.

I did another thread about this.

You can say that, but there are other suggestions that have these sort of hurtles and are actually accepted among the community. I can understand why you don't like it, it's just up to the community. If most people like you think it's suggestion, then it's a bad suggestion, but I don't see that on this page.

What about marking blocks that a player placed or broke and not having them break the marked blocks?

What I meant by "dynamic blocks" are structures that appear in unloaded chunks with a timer. As for mining, they would just mine underground and chop trees if they need it so you don't have to worry about them destroying your house. If your house was underground, there would probably be Salome bookkeeping on what was edited by the player.

That last thread was a lesson in how not to make threads and I'm making this to keep everything simple. This human NPC can be skinned as Steve, Alex, Black Steve, or Rana. (The player models with those skins) They live in any biome in a "survival house". They can place and break blocks, mine and craft in somewhat real time. So, if you find one at spawn, don't expect much, but if you find one after a long time, there will be some good loot. These hermits are neutral, but if you steal any good stuff (from their chest or when thy're mining), they'll attack. You can still live with them, but they won't do anything for you. You can keep them from doing so with the mob griefing and change the frequency in the world settings. I'm not sure how to implement dynamic blocks and loot tables, mpossibly, there could be a timer for that. After this, I'm taking a break from the suggestion forums.

There isn't a section for it, but I believe there was a post in the forum games section (All the way at the bottom) about purposely bad ideas. I believe it is quite old, though.

I can see how such thread is easily missed, I don't really feel the need to have a "Joke" section, but that's off-topic.

The idea itself is okay. I've always wanted a "human" mob. But I don't want them spawning with diamonds and such. Such a mob's AI would be easy to exploit (Just trap them in a tiny hole) and having powerful gear in their possession would just be too powerful. Of course, you can add to the ai, such as "Destroying blocks" but that right there would be horrible. If you flesh the idea out better, I might be able to support it.

The idea about pigmen pushed to the side shouldn't be there. It makes this thread a wish-list, breaking one of the forum rules.

As for fleshing it out, I sometimes lay down only the bare bones in case someone can help out with this idea.

Actually I think he's continued his "joke" by fooling us into thinking he's trying to be serious; just look at his last couple of comments, they make close to no sense at all. Example:

Well played my friend...but I have figured you out.

About that, whenever this sort of thing happens, I just have to turn it around and I really don't know why. A similar thing happened on an earlier thread. I just expect the people to agree without thought or logic.

This is a terrible idea. The whole point of Minecraft is that you are alone; away from other humans.

I wish I could start completely over, but editing the idea a third time might work. I really need to think before I post, and you need to ask me nicely because I'm trying to keep my cool.

My mistake, I edited the idea so it'll be a legitimate suggestion. There should really be a joke forums skin there won't be any of what happened

Dude, this is a suggestions forum, not a forum for jokes. If you are going to make jokes that include minecraft in it, either keep it to yourself or put it elsewhere. Oh and PS: the pigman thing doesn't make sence. You don't find pigs underground, so...

No support (even though I don't take this seriously, you don't just put out jokes in a suggestions forum)

There are other people who put jokes in this forum. There's no official joke forum here, and there are other threads with purposely bad suggestions and joke suggestions in this forum. Why are you singling me out then? Will you just stop being a hypocrite if you want me to move this thread so bad.
