It's not gonna be animated. But what they're doing I think is better. Look at the movie trailer :

Well. It is animated. But not as a normal 3d animation.
I wonder if it will be anything like Scott Pilgrim.

Also, this is my first time making a map for others to play. As you can see, I used a randomly generated seed instead of decorating the place myself. I was just lucky that there was a village nearby.
Also, I don't know why the memory usage keeps increasing with every death, but given that the player will probably die a few times, this is something I hope to fix.

This version is without the spawners.

So this is a special world that I made. The objective is simple: construct a beacon. There is an NPC village nearby that is protecting a sacred treasure, and that sacred treasure will help you make that beacon. Unfortunately, you are imprisoned in a dark box. The only way out is through the North Wall, where you can break an emerald block, then throw an enderpearl through the hole and escape. Now here are somethings for you to know before you begin playing:
1. Optifine
It is recommended to use optifine, set the render distance to at least 12, turn on smooth chunk loading, put the game on hard mode, turn fast render on, and set the brightness to bright. You might see some glitches with the lighting due to some chunks not loading, but it won't affect gameplay that much. It will help to turn off water and lava animations, as well as disable weather (this includes turning off clouds). You might also want to turn on fast math on.
2. Spawning
Unfortunately, I could not set the world spawn. It only sets the x and z coordinates, but no matter what I do, it will always spawn you at the wrong y coordinate. Therefore, I had to set a bed. Now here is the important part: go to the folder called "players" and change "Mathelete.dat" to whatever username you have. You will initially spawn in lava, but when you die, you will respawn next to a bed. If anything goes wrong, just remember that spawn is (129.5, 82, 128.5). Once you spawn in the right place, give the world some time to load the chunks. Once all the prison walls have rendered, it is a good time to start. If there are multiple players, whoever has op should tp the players to the person, set the time to 13800, and get everyone to sleep. Keep doing this until everyone has slept in the bed. Without the bed, the only respawn point is in lava.
3. Resources
Within the prison, there is no lava, gravel, or coal. You cannot make obsidian, you cannot craft arrows, and you cannot make flint and steel. You need charcoal as fuel for furnaces and torches, which you can obtain using logs. Additionally, there are no diamonds within the prison, so you have to rely on iron armor.
4. Mobs
Due to a combination of the darkness as well as hidden spawners, there will be lots of mobs. To increase the chances of endermen spawning, light up the caves and destroy the spawners. Creepers are good because if you know the general area of a spawner, you can make a creeper explode in it and uncover the spawner. Endermen are important because an enderpearl is the only way out of the prison.
5. Once you're outside
Once you're outside, you have more freedom and access to more resources. Find the NPC village (which is not too far off, it is very close). That village holds the treasure that will prove useful. You can also find lava, which can be used to make obsidian and access the nether.
6. Glitches
I've only playtested this on my own computer. I don't know how it will turn out when someone else downloads it. I am also unaware of glitches that people could use to bypass the prison barrier. I would like to see someone playtest this and upload a video.
Edit: Apparently, this map takes up a lot of Minecraft memory, and it keeps increasing everytime you die. So if you die too many times, it's best to close and reopen Minecraft, because the memory will soon reach capacity. Does anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?
Here's a youtube video of a much earlier version of this map. This version was much easier, the new version hasn't been playtested yet:
2018 EDIT: THIS MAP REQUIRES VERSION 1.7! IT'S THAT OLD!

And I still believe it is too rare for something merely aesthetic. Having to walk 20000 blocks just to get to a mesa seems like too much. Maybe 2000 would be acceptable.

Take Super Mario World for example. That game was made a long time ago. But thanks to SMWCentral, people are now making lots of romhacks, so the popularity remains. Similarly, even if Mojang were to shut down, people would continue making mods to keep Minecraft interesting.

Well, you CAN break stone and other blocks with your fist, you just won't end up collecting them.

I made a world where the spawn in enclosed in a 256x256x256 bedrock box, and due to some ceiling blocks not rendering, it will actually register as having no ceiling, so the sunlight will fall through.

Okay, that wasn't really special. That 17+ stuff was something any 14+ could handle.

Why should that matter? If you're worried about aesthetics, then you're better off in creative mode, where you don't even need the mesa biome (you can get the clay from the menu).
