    Start over.

Follow the instructions here to the letter: http://sargunster.com/btwforum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9272

If it doesn't work you'll have to give more than "results in an error".

What do you mean by "micromanaging food"? It's just managing it.

Even if you get all those crops, you still don't have an iron pick, so you can't do a whole lot with it. It seems so much more sensible to get at least an iron hoe, and a compass before going on your adventure. And at that point you're pretty close to getting to the nether anyway, so why not cut the travel to an eighth as far.

I just don't see what's appealing to spending a lot of effort to get somewhere, and you'll still have to do the same steps as the early game once you get there, but now if you die you're completely screwed because you built up nothing within the radius.

There is randomness, that's what finding a village is, and finding out if it has any of the crops you still need. There's a ton of randomness, but if you could easily get a huge step up the tech tree in a few minutes people would undoubtedly just keep restarting til they get an easy start, which makes the experience worse for them.

That seems reasonable. I definitely failed once or twice, running out of food. There are certainly a few quirks you have to learn or you're going to fail at it.

I'd recommend anyone who find it near impossible record a video of their first half hour of playing a new world, I'm sure anyone would be willing to provide some pointers. I'd wager it's running and jumping that's killing him.

As I probably said a few years ago, the dead village radius goes against replayability, since you need to do the same in every game: walk away from the spawn area in a straight line for a few thousands of blocks.

I've never once done this and I've probably done a dozen very long term games since hardcore spawn was introduced. Why do you think you need to do that?

i did read the error report but i can't post the full thing because it is over 120000 characters long which is the word limit for a post

im guessing it doesn't run on forge?

You should read the first sentence on the first post on this thread:

"*** The Total Conversion That is Incompatible With Everything!!! ***"

If you followed the install instructions in the download, it will work.

That might work. Or maybe a 'closer' exit to lure mobs away from my real exit?

Maybe later though. Currently, I'm trying to find another hole in the ground for some iron.

I really hate tall grass now.

Edit: How much water do you need to fish? Is fishing in a underground pond worth it?

Edit: I note that fences can't be crafted with sticks anymore. What's the best early-game method of walling off an area? The only thing I can think of is a dirt wall.

An underground pond won't work. You need a sizable bit of water, a river may due, but the ocean or a bay are better.

One option I've went with before is to have a second exit. Mobs sit near one because it's the closest they can get to you, not as many will be near a further away exit.

Ransacked the temple and got rotten flesh and a ton of bones, which is a good thing because killing skeletons for the bones would have been difficult.

The next day, the entrance to my little hole in the ground got blown up by three creepers. Managed to not die, but had to spend the rest of the day patching it back up. Will it be worth it to make something like a entrance tower only accessible by ladders?

Having to kill a spider or creeper like, every other day before I get out is kinda tiring.

Also, does tall grass regrow? There's tall grass where I could have sworn there wasn't any before.

    Tall grass doesn't regrow

I frequently build an entrance ladder until I can safely build a wall around my larger base with multiple exits, but make sure you do it in a way that nothing but you can get to it.

In that case, I think it might just be rain... I think I'll gather some more things then try nab all the exposed iron I can find.

Also, found a jungle temple at the edge of the jungle. Will it have anything worth raiding?(Note-as long as it's not totally empty, I think I might try to go in, even rotten flesh, bones, or string would be useful. I can't actually kill monsters for it... ok, I can kill some spiders for string, but it eats up too much food for healing and stuff)

Edit: Never mind, it's a full-blown thunderstorm, complete with zombies and spiders at the gates.

I don't think I'll be going out until it stops.

From my experience map features are always worth exploring, just a lot more far away from base. I've found ingots in chests nearer to spawn, so it's worth it. Just be careful there are a lot of places for mobs to hide in a jungle temple.

I'm currently facing a dilemma with this mod.

It could be I'm just a wimp, or lazy, or whatever, but whenever I play, I usually burn out and lose interest before I hit iron, usually get being a fishing pole or a ingot or two before the constant repetition of 'punch wood, mine, wait for sunrise, mine, chop wood, mine, wait for sunrise, chop wood, run out of food, linger, die'

Most of the time, I don't even manage to get iron as I can't find a cave, or mobs inside said cave kills me. I just can't find it in me to repeat that 'stone-age' stage long enough to actually start doing something other then cower and struggle to not die, because after a few hours of doing it over and over again, it's just not fun. Then I come back after a while, have fun for a bit, and the cycle repeats.

I'm at the point I'm wondering if it'll be worth it to cheat in a iron pick or something.

I mean, I love the mod and all, but the start feels a bit too long and tedious to me.

From what I've seen when I've watched people struggle like this, they seem to not appreciate the danger of mines, and try to rush in too much. Maybe record a short let's play, and maybe people can give you some comments or suggestions.

    Death Cycles

This is something FC has known about and attempted to address a couple times, I assume he's on the latest version right? I thought it might be that he was on LAN, but it looks like he wasn't as of 7:09, and it doesn't look like there were any cuts. But if there were and he cut and cheated in some way using open to LAN then failed to switch back that could cause this I think.

No way to use animals with boats. You gotta build bridges or bring them under the sea in a tunnel if you are on an island without animals. Same if you ever want to bring villagers back to spawn.

God I remember when this mod was like, THE THING. Have there been ANY plans to even just hand off this mod to another development team to upgrade to a 1.8 version?

You can play it right now. I don't get why people are so concerned with being on the latest minecraft version.

By the way, has anyone figured out how to make saws a viable killing option for squid farms? The tricky squid in mine seem to slip underneath the blade half the time.

I normally have a stream of water running directly into two running (vertically stacked) saws. No need to have a gap under the saws for items to drop, they can fall in the space of the saw. Works perfectly for me.
