So how would dying the wool work exactly? Do you get a bottle of dye from the cauldron, or do you dunk the wool into said cauldron? (probably by right clicking it)

    Both.
Currently you can smear a blotch of dye into a sheep. and you can smear dye into wool using the crafting table

using my idea you could dunk (right click) the wool into the cauldron. Or grab a bottle and douse the sheep in dye. Yes i know dousing a sheep doesn't make realistic sense. But it keeps with what you can do in the game currently.

I feel like it's putting too much thought into a fairly small part of minecraft. most people who make large amounts of dyed wool, would just use creative. it's an alright idea, i just think there should be some more reward to it.

My thought as far as that goes. Minecraft is a hugely multifaceted game. You can make calculators out of redstone, complete with a piston controlled display. Cool as this is. I'm not going to do it. I figured flush every aspect of the game to its fullest and then let the players who want it use it. and the ones that don't want/use it at all don't have to.

So with my random discovery that you can fill bottles from pools of water, I thought it odd that Cauldrons are more or less just aesthetic.

I also have never liked how dyes work. Taking a dandelion. mashing the yellow out then smearing it on a clump of wool does not yellow things. Well in minecraft it does, but not out here. Here we soak things in yellow water to get the dye in. I think the act of mixing dyes to get your colours should use water and cauldrons. I believe it would add some depth to how dyes currently work. Want to dye a sheep. use a glass bottle filled with the orange dye you mixed in your cauldron. You also get to see the cauldron change its colour. I suppose you won't be able to make orange sheep within the first 5 seconds of playing which is a down side. But I think it would make the whole colour experience that much more rewarding for those playing survival.

    Thoughts?

    possible related other ideas?

Perhaps you could drink the dye and it would tint your screen the shade of the colour you drank for a time.

Perhaps you could make splash potions with dye and colour the landscape/mobs/players temporarily. (paint ball games?)

Perhaps dyed wool would bleed their colours when water or rain happened on them. And the sun would slowly bleach their colours over time?

posted a message on Endermen: Great Idea. Worst execution ever, though
    Quote from EldingArtist

    4. They SOUND lame. In suspense in cinema, sound is EVERYTHING. I had expected some ingenious soundwork for such a well-planned mob. Instead, I get to hear zombies. Don't get me wrong. When I was fresh to minecraft, the zombie sound in a dark cave really drove me crazy (in a good way). Now... it's just a little heads-up that there's darkness nearby. Skeletons and Creepers are the only monsters that kept me on edge after over 100 hours of gameplay.

    4. Sound. They should trigger ambient sound-events that uniquely alert players to the presence of something horrible somewhere nearby. Something.... spinechilling. Whispers maybe... Whatever it is, it should be out-of-place for where the player is, and should warp any other sounds. I believe audible sounds of the players suspense should be present too. Heartbeats or even dampenign and warping of sounds like a rush of blood to the head would cause. They should be erratic too. Sometimes whispering quietness, sometimes shrill shrieks.

I just really think Endermen should be in heavy development right now, because they are just... too little to ammount to anything.

So i totally agree with you. When i first encountered them I heard the zombie sound and I whipped around expecting to see a zombie. But instead I was face with a twitching tall thing. I think their passive sounds should be a random mob sound. ANY mob sound. They could keep one sound profile for a minute or two. then switch. Would be disconcerting to hear a pig turn to get some bacon and be met with not bacon.

When you stare at them. They should rip right round and stare at you. And not twitch. (i don't even think the twitch was intentional. I took it as the mob is constantly checking for you to look away.) I think all other sounds should be dampened or silenced. replaced by a quiet rushing sound slowly getting louder.

When you look away I would like to hear a shriek. I hear the nazgul's are looking for voice acting work. And I want it to blink RIGHT THERE. its gone. and it might not attack you right away. maybe not for a whole minute. Then BOOM when you are least expecting it. perhaps when you put your sword or bow away.

after it hits you expecience the slowdown sensation. It might blink off and appear a bit away staring at you. Then vanish when you are no longer slowed.
when endermen are in groups. I want to feel the terror of all of them staring at me. They don't rush at you if you are still looking at the offended one. But when you do look off they all blink or charge.

They need to be completely unpredictable. Will the charge immediatly. Will they charge and vanish before hitting you. Will the blink immediately and bide their time till you least expect it. Perhaps they blink out and wait till you have 3 hearts left.

My first encounter with them was how I thought they would act all the time Story Time gather 'round youngins
I was on a small island. So no meat but zombies. I had a small farm in the works but It was taking too long and I was starving. That night I began hunting on the island. Looking for either bones or zombies. Either one meant I ate. I heard a zombie behind me. I whipped around drawing my blade. I was face to face with an Enderman. The spider in the distance went silent. The creeper trapped in a hole stopped moving. It was silent. I figured I could walk towards him and snag my first endermen kill. I assumed the grass he was holding came from elsewhere. Unfortunately It was the block directly in front of me he had taken. I fell and He vanished dropping the grass. Panic stricken I looked about Searching for it. The spider saw me and charged. Easy 3 hit string, one; two; *Poof* *Smack* *poof* endermen out of the corner of my eye blinked in and got me. and now the spider got a free shot aswell. Low on health I take out the spider. and dig the standard 2x1 tomb to hide in. When day approaches. I hear things dying. I figure it was safe. I climb out and *poof* it is there in front of me. He stands there a second before killing me. It felt like he was saying "im going to enjoy this"

It is good to see this still alive.
I have some ideas that I think will go well.
Maps that can be posted on walls like they were a painting. taking up a 2x2 square. and you can puzzle the map pieces together and they will attach to one another
Possibly to the top surface. For the militaristic strategizing types.
Maps that can be drawn on, or typed on. Allowing you to make notes about different areas. IE "cave; leads to dungeon caution"

Books can either be typed into or drawn in with the mouse cursor. Still only one colour. Allowing you to make journals similar to leonardo da vinci
Or perhaps to be able to use a painting in the middle place when making a book. creating a 'picture book' where two pages are typed and one is a picture.
maybe a custom book requires a leather cover and binding before you can write in it. This way if you wanted to appear learned you could still make the cheap book using just the reeds. But if you wanted to be actually learned you would need to work at it.
Recipe is: (bookshelf = decoration book) (Bacon=leather)(spider=string)
    :: :Bacon: :Spider:
    :: :bookshelf: :Bacon:
    :: :Bacon: :Spider:

The Art of Sculpting: crazy hard to code something with a true 3d profile I imagine, and most likely too intensive. But A simple version. using clay and dyes you can make
coloured clays. then using a similar palette as the painting Art
You 'paint' a sprite that will always face you. similar to how shrubbery, sapplings, long grass, reeds, dead bush, ferns work. But now it is your art.

posted a message on can someone make a shrinking mod that is compatible with clay soldiers
Maybe if you flushed out your idea some more. I think it would be a great idea.

IE you shrink by drinking a potion Or a rare item
but then you run into the problem with including many more features than are really neccessary.

You should also consider. When you are half tall. you would only really be able to jump half as high. which means you would have to jump to climb half steps and you couldn't scale full blocks.

A good Idea i had with the clay soldiers mod, was to make a new item that would make you the size of the soldiers. And then you could put on the 'crown' and lead your armies. mounted on a horse. Battle with your friends AS a commander in the field. not just watching them fight. "FOR HONOUR AND GLORY"

well there is my two cents

I LOVE the heck outta these ideas, especially the literature one! However, I didn't like a few things on the Literature one, even though I think it's the one that should be added the most.
    1. The Drawing
Maybe you should be able to choose: normal, journal-style book or sketch book. It would be very hard to write neatly with the mouse, and both in one would be hard on the game.
    2. The Creation of Books
I think there should be a crafting table, which has a GUI in which there is room for an input of a blank book, another for the input of an inkwell, and output of your book. By putting a colored inkwell, using any dye but black, you get a sketch book, with all the colors, like the thing in the Painting suggestion.

I like his idea's Brings me one step from being able to have journal entries like Leonardo da Vinci with the sketches and notes. How does one bring this to Notch's attention?

Nice application! Effective communication is the glue of successful administration and moderation. Taking notes is also something unique about you; we like it. You seem to put an emphasis on having fun. As a server moderator, it is important to balance fun with seriousness. As long as you understand that, you are qualified for the position. Make sure you keep watching, because you are a good applicant.

    Thanks
    -HJ

does hitting refresh repeatedly work? :tongue.gif:

I know the balance of silliness and seriousness well.

Speaking of fun. do you have a server up and running for me to explore in?

    For Moderator

    IGN: MarqLaw

    Age: 25

Strengths: Community flow, Game/Adventure Design, Building Design, Red stone

Weaknesses: Attention Span. Playing MC i often get distracted by... oh hang on theres a brown sheep over there...

Experience with MC servers: Any and All, I primarily enjoy the social aspect of MC

Experience with moderation/administration of any kind: See Below

Why will you be a good moderator: Never been one before, however I would watch how the admin/moderators worked (or in some cases didn't) on their server. I have seen many servers collapse due to **** poor management, corrupt management, and similar reasons. Through this I learned vicariously how to run a good server in MC. Outside of MC I can keep my cool in a lot of adverse situations. I have taken leadership classes to learn how to communicate efficiently, and how to dissolve disputes effectively. Recreationally I have always played as the "GM" or "DM" in games played with friends (ie: D&D) if you are unfamiliar, the GM or game master (dungeon master) is responsible for setting up the adventure for the other players to have fun playing. Many friends have commented on my good ability to run a fun game for everyone.

    What makes you stand out:
I keep excellent hard copy notes. I am constantly scribbling in my MC notebook, whether it is coords to someones awesome jaw dropping work, or someone doing something shady but I cannot be sure (IE are they flying or just glitching so it looks like they are) I have an excellent memory for names and conversations

Also my 'fishing hut' which I will probably make a few in the course of being on the server.

    Excellent Suggestion.
whenever I press F3 i always feel like I am cheating, (in a way it is) I really like your suggestion for the recipe as well. it is similar to how it was originally made. Although if new ores ever get introduced, like copper and zinc, and smelting melts becomes an explorable option. the recipe should definately be changed to brass.

Cheers on the suggestion. If implemented or made a mod, the Trio of navigation is complete.

    In Game Name: MarqLaw

    Age: 25

Timezone: GMT -6 (currently with daylight savings)

Computer CPU: not actually certain, not that familiar with computers, all i know is i got top of the line MacBook Pro because it was free
    Computer GPU: see above
How much RAM do you have: see above

When did you start Minecraft: was playing free mode until Alpha was released. then I bought it, Never stopped Since then.

What experience do you have with Minecraft servers: Played on many many different servers. From vanilla to creative to faction war to happy village people. I've seen all sorts, and I enjoy them all.

What experience do you have with website administration: none

What experience do you have with computers: Long ago i built my PC, not just clipping the chips together either, i mean actually soldering the parts on. Beyond that, just basic maintenance

Recording software: A bit, did a bit in highschool with flash and some other programs. I only remember general concepts

YouTube channel: I have one but I haven't posted anything yet...

Experience with programming: I took a class once, so boring, can't stand it. I can recognize it and with enough concentration I can make some intelligent guesses on what it will do, but I will not put my finger into it to meddle, that is for the smart people to do.

How active can you be: Depends on the season, Am a gardener by trade so not as much during the summer, but at least 4 hours every day all year long.

How much do you think the server will grow in 1 month: Highly depends on how awesome it is. I have been on some servers that when whitelist was turned off would get 50 new people/hour.

Why are you a good Admin/Moderator: Never been one before, however I would watch how the admin/moderators worked (or in some cases didn't) on their server. I have seen many servers collapse due to **** poor management, corrupt management, and similar reasons. Through this I learned vicariously how to run a good server in MC. Pictures/Video of what work you have done: Unfortunately I am very bad at doing this. I will frequently build something wonderful, live in or near it for a while, then get bored and wander off to find somewhere new to explore. I am very aware of many different things you can do in MC design wise, and my general style is small, and simple, but I make effective use of small potent details.

    Position Applied For:
Primary: Community Manager, as stated above I believe I am ready to test my skills
Secondary: Building Manager I have not taken on many truly major building projects, but I often would regard other peoples designs and make small suggestions if i felt it
could enhance the effect of their work
Tertiary : Redstone Guru I am not terribly terrific with this, But I do tinker with it from time to time, and I eventually figure out how to make it work. even if i must go into a
solo world and spawn enough resources to tinker with it until it worked.

Other: I keep excellent hard copy notes. I am constantly scribbling in my MC notebook, whether it is coords to someones awesome jaw dropping work, or someone doing something shady but I cannot be sure (IE are they flying or just glitching so it looks like they are) I have an excellent memory for names and conversations

EDIT, I am only just editing this
