You see, the rules mention a line which we shouldn't go anywhere near. Where is that line? Let's say we're on a road where the speed limit is 60. The rule state that going over 60 is illegal, and that everypony should follow it. So, from that, we could say that the line is on the 60 mark.

Oh gosh, somepony is going 70 on the highway, does he get busted? No. But he did crossed the line. Was it all bad? not at all.

He's going 80-90 now, does he get busted? If cops are there to speedgun him. What does people on the road do when they see him speeding? they react. Differently. Someponies won't care that much, while others will envy him for being brave and going that fast. Maybe some of them will even call the cops to arrest him.

And that's what is happening on the thread, litteraly. We bring different reactions by bringing borderline rule topics. When somepony goes too far, he get busted, and everypony get back to their casual life.

What I want you to understand is that, the line is nowhere near where the rule says it is. Yeah it's all nice and all to say that rules are rules and are meant to be respected to the letter, but gosh it's boring!

Yeah, we could all say that we are dissapointed when somepony break a rule, that he should not act like that and whatever. But what happens when somepony post these kind of things? It brings lots and lots of posts, each of them a reaction to the topic. It brings life to the thread.
A long time ago I posted my IRL story of how I joined the herd. Heck, nopony said I was totally off-topic because it wasn't about poniesponiesponies. I was talking about me all the way along and nopony complained about it. The only thing that I did when posting this was adding reaction posts from everypony else. The thread lived for a whole page about a offtopic post and nopony complained about it. They enjoyed it, actually.

It's nice to say that the thread must be about ponies, but when we talk about the same thing for too long, we get bored. Diversity is a key to the thread's survival IMO. We can't just go and talk about Pinkie's episode for the whole week while we wait for Fluttershy's episode to air next saturady. You actually bring a near off-topic subject by even talking about rules. Rules=/=ponies, omg, does somepony is complaining?


You said yourself that you didn't bothered to post art anymore because nopony was interested. Who said that? Is there a post somewhere saying "we are bored of awesome art and we don't want them showed to us anymore"?
It's this kind of behavior that make the thread less..alive.

Me and some other members actually read lots of fictions, and when we stumble across something good, we post it here. When you stumble on some good artwork, why don't you post it here. You'll get reactions, and reactions make the thread alive, even if it's a simple "oh it's nice!"

You know, I recommended a fic a couple weeks ago, and it contains sex scenes. Wow, nopony complained, I just said that two chapters contained NSFW scenes between Twilight and Nmm. Oh gosh what happened? Nothing. those who doesn't want to read them can have a clop-lite chapter which doesn't alter the storyline and that's all. Yeah, It's borderline NSFW but I didn't crossed the line by recommending a sex fic only containing sex for the whole purpose of .. well.. sex. It's not because there's a little thing about it that it's automatically bad and all. some of you did read the fiction, and enjoyed it. They didn't rejected it because it was inches away from the imaginary line created by the rule.


*sigh* anyway I wish I could explain more about it, more clearly, but dinner is calling me right now.
Oh gosh I'm totally off topic, is that all bad?
