One of the major bugs with this snapshot makes every entity freeze, making the game unplable...I'm disappointed.... There has to be a b version
Same thing is happening for me. My comp isn't the greatest, but it has always played the game fine before. I think the RAM update is helping with chunk rendering, but it does seem that there is a consistent lag of a second or two every 8-10 seconds. For now, I just learned to swing my sword like crazy when the zombies would suddenly stop moving for a bit. I hope they get this worked out for 1.3 or at least offer updated video settings for those who are experiencing this (i.e. java XMS RAM, fast graphics, OpenGL, etc) because the current methods aren't cutting it.
On a side note, I think I have fallen in love with extreme hills on Large Biomes. There was a large thread earlier about how biomes were lacking. Now, I feel Large Biomes has in a way fixed it. Now that a biome fills half a map, there is so much room to put content in each type of biome. Extreme Hills have some scattered trees, Tiaga has large mountains, not to mention you can find ruins in both desert and jungle now. Though, if they are going to make sandstone villages in desert, I wish they would do something like cobblestone villages in snow. Seems like villages are only limited to plains and desert. At least put them in swamp! ... or are they already?

One of the worst I had was when I settled in the middle of extreme hills in large biomes. I explored caves for days until I found 1 diamond.
On average though, I'd say I routinely have to put some effort into Diamond, Gold, one type of plant, and one type of animal. For whatever reason, there always seems to be one animal or plant type I struggle finding.

Quite the opposite really. The whole purpose behind a "seed" is so that you can share an exact copy of the world you got with someone else.
However, as they make updates to the game, sometimes the terrain generation is effected. Since 1.1 or so I've had great success with a seed that uses my wife's name. At least half of the updates since have causes minor changes, with one or two updates causing a complete reworking (jungle biome, etc). I remade the map with 1.4 (last attempt was 1.2 I think) and it is a whole new map. If I were to do the same seed on my other computer or give it to a friend, it would look exactly the same (assuming you don't have mods that affect terrain generation).

Methinks you are running a bunch of mods because there are several things I could label as "abnormal" in your screenshot.

This comment is completely rude and inconsiderate. You do realize the developers don't gain anything by pleasing YOU with these mods. They can wait weeks for all I care, it's their mod and they can do with it as they please. When making these mods is their livlihood and they break promises when they say they will have updates, you are free to complain all you want. Until then, STFU

Programing wise, I'd think it would be similar to making a ravine. It doesn't have to be as artistic as the OP photos, just a big hole, with a few details like stalagmites/stalagtites and water. If anything, wouldn't the blank space be easier on rendering?

It probably is better left as an option, but it'll always be checked for me.

Great job on your buildings, I like them!

or maybe forgetting to take extra picks, shovels, torches, or food the first time I went spelunking.
