Oh this looks like something worth of building in my single player survival world. Now i know how to use a half stack of slime balls, 10 stacks of redstone and a crapload of cobble i usually drop into lava
Also, getting xp for smelting cobblestone into bricks? Didn't know that. Sounds like a good plan for spending massive amounts of coal, that wastes my chests.
I'm not really surprised that the vote is turned to an unnecessary option that can be solved by much simpler and less intrusive means because of the influx of new people who don't have much on this server to begin with, and as shown by the gargantuan whitelist in comparison to regular players, probably won't stay on this server for more than a few weeks at most.

A proper combat update should affect armor as well. I'm pretty sure we'll see some changes in upcoming snapshots.
And yeah, diamond armor even without enchants is quite op even in 1.8
