how exactly would the game benefit from this? How would this make the game better than before? In fact, it would make it worse:
reason 1. computers aren't magic, they have their limits, i've tried volcano mods and they mass lag the game, now think about those people who play minecraft on regular computers, not supercomputers like you but regular computers, how much are they gonna lag?
even though the chances of the volcano's spawning are low, (5 to the power of 100 about(tell me if thats wrong)) there'll be tons of them and everyone will lag.
2. making a new block just to make volcano's would be pointless, wasting space that could be used on other things.

as for tools:
MCP - Minecraft Coder Pack is the considered the best: Minecraft decompiler, reobfuscater and mod tester.
Eclipse java IDE is considered one of the best java/modding tool/IDE
Netbeans IDE, is the official java IDE from the java webpage, but i reccomend Eclipse.

for tutorials: either do unrelated-to-minecraft java stuff or simpy edit small lines of the code, as i did with my first mod: BetterFurnaces.
Check out the O'Reilly java references and tutorials
and get basic programming language experience by doing simpler languages such as python.

the new style is ok, but to be honest, i preffered the old style better. Just easier to navigate. Plus the fact that the simplicity felt like you were playing minecraft at the time. But the main reasons why i don't like the new style is navibility, it looks like 'fake' forums for minecraft; and the fact that my computer doesn't load it properly. Maybye if you (sachaverrell, sorry if i spelt that wrong) brought back the old backround and profile page plus the new content box on the homepage, users on this forum would be at least a bit happier

well yes they do, only oak trees though. But get this: on the server i play, i always cut down the leaves after the tree, and what happens is 1-3 apples drop every time!

ok to check the version, when your starting up the server it should say something like this:

starting MC server(1.1) at jenkins(craftbukkit#1818-snip-

or once the server has been started you can do the command "version" (without qoutes) in the console, and it should tell you what craftbukkit build your using. As for essentials, type "essentials version" in console, no qoutes again. Then it should tell you what versiopn your using, 2.7.1, 2.8.1 etc. And here are your essentials links:essentials
then just follow the instructions on there, and you should be done!

Wow. Just wow. I'm coming here late, following links from other threads, but I gotta say you don't understand half what you think you do.

Minecraft, both client and server, is written in Java. NIO has zero to do with the issue of Minecraft running on a Java VM not using all available processing power.

When modifying a source to utilize processing power not factored into the initial design, the amount of effort required is variable, depending on initial design and implementation of classes.

Simply branching threads willy-nilly can have unintended consequences, some catastrophic. Changing the state of an object designed for a single thread design can be catastrophic (or "buggy") when multiple threads have access.

NIO simply addresses a failing in Java regarding input/output. It does not address the inability of a software package to utilize multiple threads to make best use of available processing power.

If you understood what NIO in Java actually delivers you wouldn't have posted in this thread. If you understood what the OP was attempting, you wouldn't have posted.

Before you call others "newbies," ask yourself if your post is intended to "prop your ego" or "share information that might save someone else time and labor."

If no information exists in your post that might save someone time and labor, your post is "trolling," and not helpful. This post is also an example of trolling.

I'm not propping my ego but I am pointing out your comments are the output of a true newb who doesn't understand the issue before posting a negative comment - dropping whatever they might have learned in the last week as if it solves the original problem without the slightest understanding of the OP's post. Arguably, I am saving the OP the hassle of investigating NIO and realizing it doesn't address the issues. But my main thrust is discounting the input of someone who doesn't understand the problem but insists on insulting people who do.

In point of fact, your post is irrelevant - a mistake only a newb would make. NIO could help with input/output, but the underlying issue is Minecraft running under Java doesn't make full use of the processing power available in a world of multi-core, multi-processor architecture.

I respect the OP's endeavor. I might suggest porting Minecraft server to C++ would solve a whole host of Java-centric performance issues while still allowing multi-architecture compatibility. I admire the OP's intent.

Mojang really needs to learn C++ and put the game there. Drop Java except for clients, IMHO.

I know that texture packs now have more flexibility, but what if you want to change the sound, not the color? This is my solution: say you don't like the music disc "cat". So you would record, let's say, a kitty mewling, and then you would upload it into your computer. Mojang would set up a file that contains all of Minecraft's possible sounds, then you could copy-paste the your sound file into the "cat" music disc, and viola, when you play the "cat" music disc, you would hear a kitty mewling.

We are all familiar with the grand Disney studios animation and of course here it is beautifully recreated in Minecraft.

Hello there!
Over the past several weeks I have been making a MineCraft Blender rig of Steve for my own personal use.
As I finished up the right along with all the blocks I decided that I should share this rig with everyone.
That is so nice of me!

Now I will just start off by saying that I am not a professional or even close to professional Blender user. In fact, I am pretty much a n00b when it comes to 3d software and all that kind of stuff. Point is, this might not be 100% optimized, but does it work? Fo' sure!

Now there are a few (two that I have seen) rigs floating around there so what sets mine apart?
Well the only thing that really does set me apart is facial expressions and a slightly different structure to the armature.

Currently the mobs are: Steve (Steve can be retextured to a zombiePig and a zombie), A female character, a squid, a pig, an Enderman, a Creeper, a skeleton, a wolf, a Ghast, a spider(so hard to animate! all them legs!), a golem, a slime (problematic due to materials), a magma slime, a chicken, a villager, a witch and a Portal gun (??) .

Yes, there is nothing that really profiles TileEntities atm Because nobody has really thought of it. I guess I could add in a command that is built-in and returns the # of TileEntities being looped through Every tick and which chunks have them, nearest players, ect. Alongside normal entities and a basic API for the entity system that people can leach off of for use with plugins, ect.

I have made a profiling option on TekkitRestrict that returns a file 'threadinfo.txt' when you use the command "/tr threadlag". I guess this could also be an alternative to the method above to where you would run the command "/tilelag and /entitylag" to generate (fully) profiled files that can be pretty long based on the current Chunk. Like... the "Top Chunk" list or somehting that uses the most # of tileEntities.

I'm taking it one step further, I've added a full internal profiler for Minecraft to the todo list!


As for now, I have a playtest demo, but only with Tekkit 1.2.5, as it was originally designed for Tekkit and all it's laggyness. Dont worry, it will support all of the newer versions in the future.

No, it doesn't. CB++ was mostly modifications for several things such as leaf decay, ect. Spigot is a modification of CBpp and it does not support Multithreading either. No server jar Distro that I've seen so far uses multithreading on the main server Thread.
