posted a message on Have you tried playing on Hardcore mode?
I did a thing where I made no above ground home. I gathered supplies then sealed myself into a giant cave system. No going above ground ever again. Tree farm and wheat farm underground. Additional rule includes only lighting my immediate dwelling and farms. As well as an occasional way point torch for getting around. Protecting my farms from creepers dropping in from every offshoot in the cave was harrowing. Had to do that till I had enough wood to just fence everything off.

It was pretty fun exploring black caves looking for resources. A couple close calls, I think. Mainly due to creepers backspawning me.

I didn't die to mobs though. I was scouting a location to farm obsidian for a portal. I had used my water to get down the HUGE drop down to where I was. I mean really huge. I stepped just one pixel too close to a flow popping out of a wall. That didn't kill me, but I was too far from the water to put myself out in time. Just a smidge too far. I even stood there just watching my health dwindle from fire damage. Knowing my world was gone before I was even dead.

It was fun. Would do again! Though right now I'm working on a farm world.

    Sword first.

Next priority is armor. At least a chest piece to start. I used to not bother with armor, but it lasts so long now. It's a killer investment towards future spelunking gains. I'd be stupid not to do it.

Then I do picks. No sense using iron for picks till I'm mining stuff that only needs picks, or till I have a large enough supply of iron not to worry about using an iron pick. Which is usually right after I build armor anyway.

posted a message on Armor is TOO STRONG?
    Quote from Charlie Brown

It just came to my mind that they might have made the armor stronger to compensate for the slow rates at which health regenerates. Considering that when you're surrounded by enemies your health will go down and down, and there's no way you can get it up...

    Going to echo this.

The new health system (newish anyway) screwed over the balance of a lot of challenge maps. This not only restores the ability to put in 'death rooms' that are legitimately beatable, but it's also easier to add a sort of sliding scale of difficulty. Before there wasn't much a difference between easy and impossible. With armor as good as it is, it should be easier for map makers to calibrate difficulty based on enemy number and armor given.

For normal play, it is a bit overwhelming in single player, but armor was absolutely a waste of resources before. It gave out too quickly, and a few shots meant you only kept wearing it to keep it from taking inventory space. Armor took SO MUCH of the resources to make them.. it just wasn't worth it. It hasn't been worth it for an extremely long time.

For multiplayer, consider the more people online means the more ways resources get split. It's a good thing armor lasts and protects so well. It would be stupid otherwise, and consider PvP with highly enchanted weapons. Old armor system? Players would have gotten eaten alive. It wouldn't even be PvP.

It's just with limited space.. um..

The whole village being taken up by pig farms is kind of.. just plain terrible. Yet that's the kind of thing I see happening.

To each their own I suppose?

I just want to know what to expect is all.

Got it installed now along with Mo Creatures. Strangely, I actually found a vanilla NPC village, an agricultural norman village, and a military norman village all in sight of each other right near my spawn. Very strange.

Is there a way to stop the villages from making repeat buildings? Like the agriculture one already built a second pig farm.

Just a little inquiry about playing with the mod in general.

What do you guys find appealing about it? I put a lot of hours into messing around this past week, and I'm wondering if I'm missing the point. Is the point just to forget the villages existing until I have a load of goods I'm not using? I tried to really be part of the village, but it takes a long time before they accept me enough to even allow me to buy a plot of land(which I didn't realize was just a plot of land with nothing in it until it was built..).

Then there is the error where there is no room. After I figured out how to fix that, they just kept building duplicates of what they already had. The town has(well had since I decided to burn it down) several of each kind of farm. I FINALLY got some other useful building after the third pig, cow, wheat, and sheep farm. This took many many hours to accomplish(most of it clearing land because these guys are babies about where they want to build), and I never would have gotten a market had I not increased the village size to 85(since they kept building duplicate farms everywhere).

Is the mod just a way to ditch all my excess building materials or am I missing something?

so im playing the map and i get to the part where i have to unlock the portal, i explore round the building where the hint about the levers are and as i step into a room i fall through the floor into a pitch dark room with a lit up lever the other side but there is an invisible wall maze to go through, i give up and try t obreak my way through but that spawned more invisible blocks blocking my path and to make matters worse there is no way to get out the way i came in. WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY! i understand doing things for a challenge but you dont have to cripple the game like that ive now got to start over and even then i still have to do an invisible maze in darkness with one spot of light as a reference point thats bull it shudnt be that difficult.

Do you mean the pitch black maze you have to walk through that can't be broken through due to some kind of invisible block shenanigans? I actually remember, at one point during the planning phases for this map, Captain Sparklez said there would be no BS pitch black room challenges as they were terrible terrible things you shouldn't do. He said this durring one of his videos.

And yet I found myself in a pitch black maze with literally no way to tell where you are in it because the switch is quickly obscured. I didn't even bother and switched texture packs to breeze past it. Not only was I lied to.. but pitch black room challenges really are intolerable ********.

As a last note, the portal reveal is finicky. I had to put the code in several times. Which just drags on because I have to go back up each time I try it to make sure it worked.

Yeah, I know, that's me being quick.

I try not to make the jumps too hard so people don't go "ARGLBLARGLICANTWINBITCHBITCHBITCH" but I think I'll up the difficulty level some.

It's certainly a hard balance between, "BUULLSHIIIIIT!" and fun difficulty. Good luck to you. It looks promising so far.

Also, you left a single letter on a sign used to make floating water. I forget where specifically, and I don't have any fancy fly mods to easily check.

Overall it was cool. Not as challenging as I was lead to believe. Though this is coming from someone that played old school platformers for a good deal of their childhood. Mastering Megaman X games in particular made me a Dash Jump Queen. Though it did lack any, "no no, that's ********!" moments I see in some Parkour maps. That's a plus.

If, and that's if, you want more difficulty for twats like me, I would suggest more twisty around a corner jumps. Maybe even a twisty corner ladder jump. Though that might be too mean. Hilarious though.

    Uh..

There is nowhere else to go in area 4 to move on to 5. Is the version with it in just not up? I got to the chest at the top of "The Block" and there is nothing in it. I managed to get into the sewer building.. and into the back room with the hatch. There is nothing below the hatch though. It's just netherrack.

There are no other structures I see that I haven't been to. No doors I haven't been in. No strange holes anywhere that I see...

Let it stay that way, then people have a chose what mod there put in and what mod don't

Everyone that legitimately owns minecraft did so knowing full well they were buying an incomplete game. Notch never made it a secret that he intended to add more on. You, and everyone else, bought it knowing the game might not resemble itself by the time it was done. Yet you bought it anyway.

I think what the OP means is..

Minecraft used to be about the creative aspect where monsters occasionally try to ruin what you build. There wasn't much reason to do anything unless it helped you complete your project. Mods come in and give you additional options beyond this. New styles of play beyond the vanilla minecraft. Now Minecraft itself is adding in the option to adventure just to adventure. You could have just dived caves before just to dive. I know I did, but this play is still limited.

A whole world opened up. The kind of world that used to only be achieved through mods.

posted a message on (POLL) Ever seen a slime?
I saw a slime in a natural cave. Killed it and got two slimeballs. Made myself a disappearing couch. I went back there and saw TWO slimes. Big ones. They split into four slimes each. I killed all eight. They didn't drop anything. Not a single slime ball. I got back there constantly. Have for weeks and weeks now. No more slimes spawn. Nothing about the location has changed.

Now I just cheat in sticky pistons. I really couldn't give a damn for shitty design choices. Slime balls aren't even that useful. There is no reason to use a sticky piston except out of frivolity. If I feel like making a doorway, I cheat a couple in and build. I get the redstone and everything else legit though.

    Quote from Nepila

The game has NEVER been hard, or even slightly challenging. Those things aren't making the game easier, just skipping the boring parts.

    This.

The game is not easier. Anyone thinking this has just been playing too long. It can't be helped. You play any game long enough and you learn the ins and outs. The only real trick to minecraft is properly prioritizing your time. That's all it's ever been. That's how it was back in Alpha. That's how it is now. It only feels harder at the start because you have no idea what to do. If anything, it would be harder to start minecraft now. There is so much more to learn than there was back in alpha, and there is no tutorial to play through.

The game is not easier nor harder. It's just different.

THE GAME WAS BETTER BACK IN MY DAY is the basic idea of what's being said. All that's happened is you've turned into an old man. On the upside you have experience to allow you to better utilize all the game has to offer. The downside is everyone else has to hear you moan about how you can't recapture that feeling of newness with the fresh perspective of youth.
