I would assume so. Can't guarantee anything though, never tried it myself or even read about anyone trying.

didn't work. i guess there's no real reason to update that mod now (the piston one), but i did try to use that patch that's out now that turns your old pistons into the new ones. black screen.

moral of the story (#1): if this happens to anyone, don't break the chest. cover it with obsidian and move on.

as for my world, once i calmed down i realized that the backups of my saves that i do religiously are for exactly this type of situation and after restoring my world from my last backup i'm only losing a week or so worth of work and not the whole thing.

moral of the story (#2): back up your saves.

Do not break the chest: this will cause the world to instantly crash, and repeatedly crash on loading.

****. wish i would have read this before i came up with the bright idea to break the chest.

do you think updating the mod will help once the chest has been broken? (i'd really hate to see my latest main save be gone for good. i have a fair amount of time into it.)

my question is, why expand the game to other platforms when it is still unfinished? i mean, instead of one unfinished game, now they will have 3 unfinished games. just sayin.

i don't know about when pistons actually get added in game, but i was able to move a spider spawner using the piston mod. here is a video:

not good for purists i suppose, but if you're ok with mods you can use this. or, i guess you could always hack in a spawner too...

it just seemed like a cool concept so i had to try it. i may try it again when pistons for vanilla officially come out.

    tnt cannons.

underground stuff is cool too. (underground mining operations, farms, and of course mob spawning traps)

Nice, there is something I'm not digging though. For one its the size of a 1T automatic piston cannon, and although has greater range, still can't aim like its counterpart. Another thing is how long it takes to send each shot downrange. It's cool, but it needs to be much smaller to be efficient.

Also guys, I got money saying Mojang is gonna nerf the **** out of pistons.

i see your points and i do agree with you. they're just novelty cannons basically. fun to build and play around with but not really all that practical.

but, to be fair, almost all the cannons in this thread are the same way. i mean, in the event of an actual battle the side that sent two or three scouts out with enough materials for a portable, meaning easy to set up and tear down quickly to move, field cannon each would wail on anyone that took all the time to make a large easy to see from a long ways away mega cannon.

nonetheless, it is fun to see what you can make all the different kinds of cannons achieve. it's not like there's any servers where cannon battles even take place. well maybe, but they're not common.

Oh god no. Please don't tell me that the testing area is now snowed over...damn it.

lol. yeah the range finding world is in a biome that gets snow. not much though. the one time it snowed on me was at night and i just went to bed and it stopped soon after i woke up. i've played a few different saves that are on that map and have only seen the snow that once, but it may be different for different people. i don't really know how the weather thing works exactly.

so, the dual rail auto loader is neat and all but in my opinion overcomplicated and inefficient. the is also one glitch. about one in every 15 or 20 times you shoot it the pistons in the cobble generators that push the propellant will screw up and the water will turn one of the lava source blocks into obsidian (randomly, a different one every time) that you have to mine out and replace with lava. not a huge deal but still not perfect, which bugs me.

while i think that was a good first effort i decided to go back to the drawing board and try to do better. what i came up with turned out pretty well i think. it's a single rail design with a 5t engine that shoots about 110 meters 6 times consistently with a cobble generating system that oriented so that it is simpler and less likely to be affected by the glitchy nature of the pistons. (yes, after working with them a while i have noticed some glitchyness with the pistons. hopefully if this gets integrated in vanilla they will be more stable). also it comes in a smaller size.

all in all the newer one is more efficient, smaller, and more consistent so if i build another of these auto loaders it will most likely be based on this platform.

    here is the video:

and here is the save if you want to check it out:

so. i've finished with the dual rail auto loading/auto firing cannon. it works perfectly but since water doesn't seem to push the activated tnt forward anymore (as mentioned previously in this thread) the dual rail design isn't all that it used to be efficiency wise. i did add a system that pushes the activated tnt forward using pistons and that helped some but if i made another one of these auto loaders i would use a different cannon design, probably a single rail with the piston pushing the propellant forward once its activated.

anyway, i said i'd post the what i had so here is a video of all the stuff i've done using pistons and cannon design so far (with the auto loading dual rail included), and the save of that world. i also uploaded the schematic for that cannon for anyone who likes to use schematics.

that one uses the pistons to launch. mine uses tnt in water to launch and the pistons to reload. it will have a slower rate of fire but have more distance.

Will it be Imperial Avenger based, or just a standard Hyperion setup.

this one will be the basic dual rail single projectile at a time with 6 t engine (3 on each side). more complicated ones may come later. maybe. if i get around to them...

Hey, you think it would be possible to make a dual rail self reloading cannon using pistons? A huge board of switches that activates different circuits of pistons that push tnt UP from a magazine. I'm not saying more than 1 high engine, but I wonder if it is possible.

i have already been building an auto-loading auto firing dual rail that uses cobble generators to push the propellant and the projectile into place. i had to stop when i waited for the piston mod to update but i'm almost finished now. its all wired and functional i just need to add the clock and a pulse generator and test it a bit.

i have work tonight so it may take a day or two but i'll make a video when its done and post it.

i wasn't quite done with the pistons mod yet but i had upgraded to see what 1.5 is like. so when i saw this i gave it a try.

it works but i didn't delete the bin folder like it says to in that video. i just renamed it so i can switch back to 1.5 when i want.

Oh yeah, so distance fell will be distance travelled along the y-axis, and flown will be (possibly) distance not touching ground along x and z? Wouldn't that just be jumping?

not jumping they have a stat for that but something like that. maybe getting shot from a tnt cannon or a future update, i don't know. that's why i was asking...
