    Sometimes when I see windmills, I think they are giants and I attack them. Waterwheels are safer (and easier to hide).

    Well Forge just updated, so for anyone who has gotten delicious delicious pastries (by asking stupid questions) it's officially time to say, "It's coming so shut up and wait. Use your hands to eat cakes instead of breaking forum rules." Not that that stops most of you...

    (And I know it's supposed to be breaking away from Forge, but the fools that don't read the posts won't know the difference, anyway, so the false hope I offer them is as sweet to me as delicious baked goods.)

    Now to a more important discussion point: Flan. It is baked, but it is not a pastry. What gives? It is amazingly delicious, and Desty Nova loves it (which would be good enough for me in any situation), but how does it enter into this thread's general opinion?

    My idea for Mad Science is two parts, a mechanical and a biological crafting concept. This is for the mechanical part.

    To start, you'll need some basic materials and a place to work!

    ::Tier 1 Materials::

    1. Make a [Welding Table]

    2. On the welding table, make some robot parts! One iron ingot breaks down into 8 [Iron Scraps]. Putting 4 iron scraps in a diamond on the table makes a [Gear]. Putting a gear between two iron scraps makes a [Joint]. Finally, 4 gears and 5 scraps in a pattern like the TNT recipe will produce a [Simple Motor].

    ::Tier 1 Robots::

    This makes a Scooter, a really simple box-like robot that just drives around aimlessly. It can't climb or jump, so a 1-block wall will keep it contained.

    This makes a Hopper, a small, bug-like bot who will bounce around aimlessly. It can leap high enough to get over a block, so you'll need at least a fence to keep them in if you want.

    This makes a Runner, a little two-legged critter that bolts at full speed in a direction until it hits something, in which case it changes direction.

    ::Tier 2 Materials::

    None of those robots are very satisfying as creations by themselves, though. Putting them in a maze or setting them on fire or just watching them wander are about all they're good for. You'll need some better parts to make better robots!

    1. Making this [Robo-Brain] will give your robots a bit more awareness, and the capability to carry out simple tasks.

    This makes a Boxbot, which acts as a chest that follows you around or sits in place where you tell it. Left-click with an open hand to toggle its orders between "follow" and "stay," and right-click to access the inventory.

    This makes a Robo-Helper, a medium-sized golem-like robot who can hold a tool. It's only strong enough for wooden tools, and it can hold a sword, hoe, axe, or pickaxe. The sword is the only one it can use in "follow" mode, and it will attack mobs you attack, or which attack you. In "wait" mode it will wander within 5 blocks of its initial position (determined when ordered to wait) and attack any "bad" mobs in that area, although they're still not very tough. In follow mode, a robo-helper won't do anything but follow you if it has anything but a sword in hand. in wait mode, a robo-helper with a hoe will till all the grass or dirt in its area. With a pickaxe, it will flatten its area as far as it can reach (two blocks high, or where it can jump). Strategic placement can hollow out a pretty good chunk of area rather efficiently. When given an axe, they'll chop as much wood as they can reach in their area, and also clear away any tall grass or mushrooms, but they will try to chop down wood planks, placed logs, and fences, too, so be careful.

    This makes a Bouncer, a sessile robot that will attack anything except you, dealing no damage but knocking it back significantly. It can reach anything within a block of itself, and will lash out at mobs and push them two or three blocks away, making them great at guarding doors or narrow corridors.

    ::Tier 3 Materials::

    The tier 2 robots are really useful, but they're not very tough or intelligent. They're little better than wolves as far as their real use. When you need some heavy duty work done, you need some really expensive parts.

    1. [Gold Chip]s are needed for serious computational power. The highly conductive nature of gold in the circuitry and the special properties of a diamond make for a smart robot.

    This makes a Miner that will dig a 2x2 tunnel in whatever direction it is pointed in when it is turned on. It will stop at obsidian, bedrock, water, or lava (it can block water and lava when it stops, so don't worry if you're walking behind it when it stumbles upon a subterranean lake). Ores will be dropped behind it as it passes, dirt and rock are destroyed outright. Left-clicking with empty hands will change its direction, and right-clicking or redstone power will turn it on or off. It is not very fast.

    This lightweight Buzzer hovers around fires arrows at enemies at a decent rate. Left-clicking with an empty hand will order it to follow you or stay put. It will strafe left or right when it has a target, and can even take a couple hits. A few of these will teach your enemies the meaning of air superiority. A buzzer's area is much larger than smaller bots, it can see about 10 blocks in all directions.

    This makes an Uberbot! This large spider-like robot can be mounted and driven around while you oversee your lesser robotic minions, as well as being toggled to follow you or wait around and guard your secret lair. While driving it, use the left click to attack mobs with robotic strength (one hit kills most mobs) and dig with robotic efficiency (about as fast as iron but mines the blocks adjacent to the highlighted block, too!). Spacebar will make your bot jump nearly three blocks high! Fall damage is significantly reduced by the Uberbot's advanced shock absorbers, but a big enough fall might destroy it completely. When it is destroyed, it explodes like a charged creeper, so be careful even though it's tougher than you. Left-clicking with empty hand will toggle it between wait and follow modes, and right-clicking while it's in wait mode will mount, right-click again to dismount.


    Well that's it for this portion of my Mad Science Mod idea, and it is probably a significant task for anyone to undertake. It requires the ability to make mob models, animate them, and program them individually, as well as adding the new block (the Welding Table is the only block added by this mod), new items (all the robot parts, plus the finished robots as items, which become mobs when you "use" the item). As far as the ability to do these things, all of the parts, individually, are already out there. Mob behaviours are in all sorts of mods like Mo' Creatures, Clay Soldiers, etc... Clay Soldiers and Fossils/Archaeology are good examples of items-to-mobs functions. The only customization for GUI is the recipes on the welding table being separate from regular crafting table, since the BoxBot is the only actual robot with a GUI and it's just a normal chest GUI. Modeling and behaviour are what I see as the biggest challenges, but I know it can be done, it's only 9 new mobs. If I knew coding or had time to learn it I would try it myself, but alas, I don't on either account. Anyone willing to give it a shot, or have ideas?

    I don't know how difficult this would be to achieve, but I've seen mods for torch-like items to be placed on ceilings and I've seen plenty of mods for tracks and minecarts. What I'm wanting is a mod that lets you place minecart tracks on walls and ceilings, and to have them be able to make corners and go around bends while doing so.

    The track would need to be able to wrap around edges, to go from flat to vertical, and would also need to be modded to make corners with the new edge-wraps...I realize this is probably way hard, and I have no skill at modding, but if it could be made to work, we could have loop-de-loops, corkscrews, straight-down plummets, straight-up climbs (with enough power, of course. perhaps combined with powered track or powered minecart mods already out there), and would therefore be able to make crazy minecraft roller coasters, as well as innovative new ways to ascend/descend towers or suborbital bases in the sky.

    Additional things to think about along with this would be a powered lift like on the first big hill in real-world roller coasters, and a braking system, although like I mentioned there are already mods that do those things.
