I love these, but I have one question. Regarding time (such as in the duration of potion effects,) what's the unit? Seconds? Ticks?

I like the concept of this. Here is how I think it might work.

When a spider despawns, there is a low chance (maybe a 1 in 50 chance) that it will leave behind an exoskeleton. An exoskeleton behaves like a boat or a minecart when not on water or rails respectively. They could be destroyed (and perhaps drop something (maybe themselves)) or they could be pushed around and used for decoration.

Another possible way these could work is that when broken, it would drop an exoskeleton. This exoskeleton would behave as the previously described decoration one. But, if a naturally spawned exoskeleton is not destroyed in two minecraft days, it hatches into 6-8 cave spiders. This could put cave spiders on the surface, or in other areas you wouldn't normally find them in.

I'm just throwing these ideas around because I like the concept of spiders leaving behind exoskeletons.

posted a message on Whales and Blubber
So, oceans are pretty dull right now. Right? But I was thinking the other day, oceans are a large open area. Perfect for a boss. So I started thinking and came up with the whale.

The whale is more of a mini boss than a boss, as they can spawn in the same area more than once. It is a moderately rare spawn in oceans, is rather large, and a maximum of four can exist at one time though it's rare enough that you'd be lucky to see two at one time. Let alone three or four. Whales are non hostile unless provoked, and they have three attacks.

The first one occurs when you are in front of it. It opens its mouth slightly and sucks in water, mobs, and you. This attack deals five hearts unarmoured. The second is a tail attack. It hits you with its tail, knocking you back significantly, and dealing seven hearts of damage unarmoured. The third one is that it will try to get underneath you, and it will spray water from its blowhole. This deals one heart of damage per second you're in the spray, and armour does not protect against this attack. It also sends you flying upwards.

The whale has 100 hearts of health (by comparison, an iron golem has 50, and the Ender Dragon has two hundred). Hitting its belly will deal slightly more damage than a normal hit.

When killed, it drops 250 xp (brings you up to level 10 from nothing) and 30-40 blubber. Blubber has a few uses, and all the uses are useless unless you have a decent amount of it.

The first use is that blubber can be used to smelt twelve items, the same as blaze rods. But as blaze rods are considerably easier to get, it's just better to use blubber for its other purposes.

Blubber can be placed on the ground like redstone, and is flammable when placed as such. Fire spreads on blubber very quickly, allowing it to be used as a very effective fuse. Also, when placed on the ground, blubber is slippery. Less so than ice, but slippery enough that it makes fast item transport viable without ice. Unfortunately, blubber is washed away by water, so you have to get creative with blubber placement for fast item transport.

    Thoughts? Opinions? Criticisms?

posted a message on Ender Dust: Potions, Crystals and more!
Here's the gist. You can craft one ender pearl into two ender dust. Ender dust has three uses I've thought of yet. Potions, Crystals, and Plates.

You can add ender dust to a potion to make it compatible with other potions. You can mix together two compatible potions to create a potion with both their effects. Note that the tiers and durations of these effects are reduced. So while having each individual potion might be more effective, a multi use potion might be more practical, particularly while mining, since you want to have your inventory open. I, for instance, always carry a speed potion, a regeneration potion, and a third potion depending on the activity, usually a fire resistance potion. I rarely ever use more than one of these before being able to restock, so I would carry a multi use potion with me instead. But if I'm taking a long journey to get to new lands, I'd use regular speed potions.

You can craft a lava bucket with six ender dust and two sugar to craft an ender crystal (you get the bucket back). You can place an ender crystal as a block, and when you use an ender pearl, if the pearl lands within a sixteen block radius of that crystal and the crystal is visible from that location (to prevent on servers hiding an ender crystal underground to trap and kill players) you will be teleported onto the crystal. The crystal also has a 50% chance of nullifying the damage caused by teleporting. This allows a sort of "ender rail line" where you throw ender pearls and the crystals correct your course.

Ender plates are crafted by surrounding a stone pressure plate with ender dust. Stepping on an ender plate will teleport you to a random block within a sixteen block diameter horizontally, and up to three blocks vertically. By removing all other teleportable blocks in that area, this can also be used as reliable fast transport. It could be used to remove mobs from your area, or to provide an emergency exit to your home. Or maybe you just want to have some fun.

These are really just throwaway ideas, so I don't expect them to be too good, but what do you good people think?

Once, a snow golem was pelting a Blaze and accidentally hit an iron golem.
The iron golem turned around and killed the snow golem, but was immolated by the Blaze!
So much mob interaction now, it makes my head spin. One time, my wolves killed an iron golem. O.o

So basically, if you want mob interactions, make a snow golem? Really, once you have a mob that attacks freely, and another which has bad aim, you have mob interactions.

Do you notice what's lacking? well, we lack a blocking golem. One with higher health and lower damage output. Was this what you meant with the obsidian golem, LynxZ?

Indeed, that is what I meant.

KyoShinda, in Minecraft, weight means nothing. So does temperature. You can have a block of gold floating in lava. I think a gold robot which shoots slabs of gold can work in Minecraft physics. If iron golems are all you need, that's fine. We're just talking about possibilities.

I just realized that if you set up snow golems together with iron golems, they can work in tandem very effectively, to make a sort of nighttime mob slayer. The snow golems throw snowballs to attract the mobs to within range of the iron golems, at which point the iron golems kill them. Unfortunately, iron golems don't attack creepers, so it may be more destructive than useful.

I'd rather not have tiered golems. I'd prefer each golem to be unique. I made a thread in the suggestions forum listing possible golem types, but it got buried. But a gold golem that shoots at range could be pretty good. I imagine that it would have to have very little health, and with a pretty long recharge time, though, so as not to make the other golems obsolete, and so as not to make the game to easy.

A diamond golem would be useless, since an iron golem can already one-shot kill most everything. Maybe as a boss in those square abandoned mineshaft rooms, and which drops diamonds as a reward, but other than that, I don't see much use for it (aside from maybe aesthetics and to show off how rich you are.)

An obsidian golem, I mentioned in my thread. I proposed it to have very high health, and very low attack power. It is naturally non agressive towards hostile mobs, but hostile mobs will tend to prefer to attack it over other things.

But I will never support any moving lights until Jeb/Notch says that it's a possibility.

So why didn't you say that in the first place? And why won't you support moving lights until it's said to be possible? It's been proven to be possible by modders.

    Quote from Homem Pigman

I don't think they should overdo golems. First, this isn't GolemCraft. Second, it gets lame if there's too much.

Well, they don't have to be called golems, if that's what your on about. If your on about adding more utility mobs in general, so you know, I'm in favor of expanding all of the already existing aspects of the game, and utility mobs are one of them. Don't expect utility mobs to outnumber every other mob. And provided each golem is unique and interesting, I don't see how it would be lame if there were too many types.

No that would be way too overpowered. If you got 10 XP for each time you break something with an iron pick, you would increase in levels way too fast for too little effort.

I meant to say, that every time you break a pick. As in, when the pick runs out of durability and you can't use it anymore.

"(before you say mobile light is impossible in the current engine, I assure you, it is very possible)"

Just because it's possible doesn't mean it isn't extremely laggy.

Have you seen the mods for this? It's not very laggy. Not to mention, I think Jeb mentioned working on improving performance (don't quote me on that), and it would probably take 10 or so moving lights in the same area to have any significant lag.
