    Quote from Natecraft

Is it possible that you have more lag (well, technically it isn't really lag, it is just lower frame rates, but whatever) because your computer is also running a server, instead of just playing on someone else's server? That is what I think a lot of people don't get, in this snapshot you computer is running a server while in single player so you are obviously going to have more lag than even on SMP when you played on somebody else's server. I am VERY sure that Mojang will add an option in later that allows you turn off the server feature, and if you DO turn off the server feature your game will run just like before, I know that for a fact because I turned my internet connection off so when Minecraft started it couldn't connect to the internet so the server feature didn't run and I played single player all fine and dandy, in fact, it ran as well as 1.2.5 with optifine installed >.>
SO GIVE MOJANG SOME TIME TO ACTUALLY DO SOME REAL WORK!

It was lag. Going through creatures and stuff. It didn't seem to happen before, but I could basically phase through every living thing for the brief few minutes I was testing.

Anyway I would normally host my own worlds so I could play them from any PC in the house, so that has nothing to do with it. :Skeleton:

    Quote from megaman16

I disagree, I'd think that the heat of the lava and the furnace combined is just too much for the iron, so it melts. That could be a logical explanation for it being destroyed.
Why doesn't the furnace melt? :Skeleton:

Ouch. I went to go see what all the fuss was about... :Skeleton:

...I know this is just a preliminary test, but it actually does seem laggier than current SMP...and I used to play SMP exclusively until I got into modding. Could be a coincidence, but yeah. I almost understand how all of those hair-triggers could go ballistic. Regardless, guys, seriously think twice about your behaviour. Not nice.

I'm not intended to download it? Strange, I could've sworn I saw a download link, and in fact downloaded it.
And trust me, I knew it was 'about servers'. I follow @Dinnerbone.
That's exactly what this thread is about, in fact. Servers.

No, no, you, specifically. You were not supposed to download that snapshot. :Skeleton:

Seriously, do you guys want to lose your testing privileges or something? Be good testers and report problems. If you actually did that there's a chance they would step back and decide to go about this another way. Then again, they've only just started so they are bound to be bugs. Anyhow, quit biting the hand that feeds you.

posted a message on Random textures for blocks! (Partially outdated)
    Quote from huge0

we might as well go full random. I mean why create vertical paterns and horizontal is random, doesn't make much sence to me.
    Quote from iaureee

agree, these advanced texture scrambling techniques sounds awkward :D

I'm not sure how it would all work out, but if it was totally random the selected block texture would have to be saved to the block for it to remain consistent. (Unless you have some other implementation in mind) If it was procedurally generated (what I meant by patterns) there would be no such need. :Skeleton:

    Quote from Crazy1duke1

I can see that would get rid of grid problems, at least on a player's scale, but if you want to place a different type of texture ("Wooden Planks from terrain5.png") in that spot it would only ever use that one texture ("Wooden Planks from terrain5.png") for any wooden planks you place in that spot.

There's that though. I see it as a trade-off, but It could be a problem for the creative types.

I hate it when Mojang forces me to use their snapshots that aren't complete products yet. How dare they!

Not going to quote all the posts.

That's totally sarcasm, and I get it, but sometimes I have to think twice and ask myself if the person posting isn't just being thick. There are people that actually say things like this and mean it genuinely. :Skeleton:

posted a message on Please do NOT make leather needed for new book recipe!!
    Quote from Rofang

I generally support new uses for things that tend to be underused, and leather was a good example of that. Unfortunately, I also prefer not to kill animals. Here's hoping there's an alternate way to get leather in the future, like the cooked zombie flesh idea above.

I'd also like other ways to get feathers and ink.

So you're okay with killing brainless animals, but you're fine with killing brain-starved, pitiful human beings? :Skeleton:

    Quote from CalamityJack

So I was very excited about all the new changes for snapshot for 12w17a. Downloaded it and have been playing it load of nice changes. But then I left to work on this library I have been building and thought about make turning a chest of reeds I had into books for space... but now i need 1 leather for 1 book...

Ok no big deal leather isn't that hard to get. I have a cow farm that holds about 50-60 cows before I "harvest" them. So I turn my machine on and wait at the end to get my cooked beef and leather... I get 31 leather from 53 cows. I go to make books and bookshelves with it and i only get 10 bookshelves from it all. A double chest full of paper now and I can't make more books until my cows replenish.

Just a heads up on the math for those going to build an enchanting room after this patch goes live; You will need 90 leather to make the 30 bookshelves for your new enchanting room (that's about 150 cows give or take) along with the 270 reeds you will need to collect and 180 wooden planks.

So now I humbly ask you Jeb don't let this new book recipe go live. Think of the cows...

You forgot the one leather required for the book in the enchanting table.

posted a message on Random textures for blocks! (Partially outdated)
    Quote from iaureee

Could be, but then there would be repeatable details every third or fourth block, although better than default. Random placement should make things even less repeatable.
Only going down one row though. The rows to the left and right would have different patterns. I'd imagine it would seem random unless you stopped to count. It's not like there would be an easily discernible grid pattern or anything. :Skeleton:

posted a message on Random textures for blocks! (Partially outdated)
Couldn't which texture shows up be determined by a block's x/y/z position? Like, every second block down an axis would be texture B, and every fifth block would be texture C. The next row of blocks would have A, B, and C, at different intervals. :Skeleton:

posted a message on Making a new chest block
I don't know how that works, but if it were me I would:
▷ Copypaste the whole code thing using a different graphic...
▷ Test to see if I've correctly added a new looking, but otherwise identical chest...
if (attempt.success); Now that I've got something to work with, play with values until I get what I want
if (attempt.fail); Look for mod with chests that has released source code. Study, thank, and credit... :Skeleton:

posted a message on If I Wanted To Change Up Vanilla Things...
If I wanted to alter vanilla chests would I have to alter Minecraft's base class files?

If I wanted to make it so that, for example, buckets stacked when stored, but behaved as normal in your inventory? Or if I wanted to modify the number of available slots? Or make them form a closet with a different GUI when stacked vertically?

What if I wanted to make it so redstone dust couldn't be placed, but needed to be crafted with something else first? Would I have to touch base classes and potentially kill compatibility with other mods?

Important questions. Would appreciate answers. :Skeleton:

I don't understand how, but you've somehow manage to implement this completely backwards. :Skeleton:

    Quick fix.

    Quote from kistoul
Anyhow, if you use a waterbottle, and brew it with wheat, you get beer! Beer instantly depletes one or two hearts and continues to gradually reduces hearts for a brief while, and also increases thirst for a minute or so. However, during that time, you are also affected with Drunkenness (Which stacks, 4 times). Drunkenness decreases FOV creating a 'tunnel vision'-like effect, and randomly shuffles between greatly increased and lowered sensitivity, and maybe another effect? :-/

Edit 1: Level 2 of drunkenness dims your screen (in addition to decreasing FOV even further and increasing the frequency of mouse sensitivity shifting), and you for some reason feel like a scholar. Level 3 For some reason you seem to be blinking awkwardly long, causing sporadic total black outs for seconds at a time, (in addition to decreasing FOV even more and increasing mouse sensitivity shifting frequency!) You are impressed with your ability to stand, clearly you are a boss. Level 4... same as level 3, but more!! You pass out as soon as it ends, waking up 24 MC hours later, late for work. Mobs can't kill you when you're passed out, but they won't miss the oportunity to scribble naughty things on you with a sharpie. When you wake up from passing out, you have a splitting headache lasting hours, and also you smell.

    But it was worth it.
