Most of the people who work with redstone know about new piston features and the problems they cause. Nothing complex with pistons seems to work anymore! That means months and months of well thought-out designs and cuircuts have to be completely trashed, including the clock piston memory, 3x3 and 4x4 piston doors, certain passcode locks, and many other things!
I believe that since we've had pistons this way forever, I think we can keep them the same way. The more complex redstone players out there are going to almost have to relearn EVERYTHING. This is my petition to Mojang to bring back the old piston workings. Please support this, and hopefully everything will go back to the way it was!

Mar 21, 2012I Deleted most of the OP.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
Made many developments in terms of 3x3 doors, and this thread has turned more into a 3x3 door mini-forum. Its a pretty neat community, post if you have a 3x3 you want to share!
In the meantime, here is a tutorial and schematic for my 3x3.
The whole thing now measures 7x4x9!
Heres the schematic for v3
Heres the tutorial:
UPDATE: The whole thing is 3 wide now, now measures 7x3x9!
Also, check out our super compact 2x2 and 3x3 hidden doors:

Feb 20, 2012Posted in: Forum Discussion & InfoYou usually say smart stuff, why are you acting so dumb this time?!
Because this offends my sensibilities, and I'm probably rather biased.
What bugs me here is the very foundation of the thread, which is "filtering noobs". As silly as many new posters can be, it is foolish to try and get rid of them like this. At its very core this represents a flavor of elitism which shows itself in every community in existence - a flavor that I hate.
The OP is basically saying "all those people suck and I want to get rid of them". As if the arrogance wasn't enough, it's actually believed that a new subforum will work as a filter. They'll post there too you numbskulls.
The only problem I see with the forums is when people go back to say Regular Hexahedrons water clock from 6 months ago and bump it by posting 'you are a genius!!!' or something. Nothing constructive. And I see the post and say 'Oh it's that again from like 6 moths ago, why the heck is that back on the front page drowning out all the new stuff'
Bumping threads without adding content is against the rules. People who do it should be reported.
i agree to a certain degree. for example, if you log on any redstone server i always see them littered with 7 seg displays and simple calculators. and there are always posts about these. same with combo locks and elevators. i think that tutorials or maybe some pictures or something should be posted on these in a pinned thread to eliminate alot of repetative how do i do this threads.
People like to take pride in their work and discuss it. Think of how disappointed they feel when their threads are buried. xD
Anyhow, this stuff IS pinned.
"How do I do redstone stuff?"
Hmm, I dunno. Did you look in this thread?
"Look at this new thing!"
"What do I build?"
Did you know that there is a suggestions section? Did you notice all the design challenge threads? (that were admittedly birthed from my flying machine megathread...)
And did you notice that when you ignore these, you are breaking the rules and should be reported?
Dec 22, 2011Here's the 2 Way Redstone elevator!Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
It goes Up and down. and works fine. but it may lag
Here's how to make it!!
You will need
- 4 Pistons
- Bunch of Redstone (1 stack i think)
- 7 or more Redstone Repeaters (depends if Redstone power doesn't last)
- Bunch of Fence Gates (Depends how much Rooms you want it the elevator)
- A Unlimited Source of power
My choices of power sources:
this is what i used when i first made it. it never stops!
And if you want this to turn off with a lever or button. it stops nicely but it can't have 2 Activators (levers,buttons,etc.). notice the Default 3D texture pack. =D
This was taken in the VanillaCraft server.
First Build this on where you want to put the Elevator
Then put on the top (put how high you want) and sides. it should look like this.
Tip: Remember! Pistons can push a limited line of blocks.
When you're done with them. add the pistons
They will push them. But they need Timing! or else your elevator won't work.
This Piston needs 1 Repeater on its last Option.
this piston pushes the blocks to........
The other pistons that sends the "shafts" up needs 3 Repeaters. One is on its first option
the two others are on its last.
Now the top pistons!!!!
This one needs no Redstone Repeaters
This piston pushes to.....
This piston that pushes it down needs 4 Redstone Repeaters all on its last option
then connect it the the unlimited power source.
it should circle around and never stop.
If you don't get it i will edit until you do!
Hope this helped you! ~Rjzb2000
oh and the default 3D texture pack is here

in this video i showcase 2 very usefull Block Update Processor Arrays. these are very usefull to have Bud zones side by side.
The first design is a Dust n Torch Array as seen on roboticaust livestream. one side is the off, one side is the on, power comes from the off side through a not gate (redstone torch on the side of a block) powers the on line until the length of wire is met. then its off, into a repeater and back into the offline and loops: now the trick is the entire offline is not gates leaking into the on line. so the game is seeing it as a length of wire running out of power but if anything near that on line updates, it causes it to see the not gate power and update the line.the line updates, triggers the repeater and sends it back through the offline to shut off the not gates and reset it. There are more outputs on the unit that werent displayed in the video.
The second B.U.Processor is a Minecart Version, powered rails can receive power through the space above them, but don't update properly when powered in this way. Combined with a detector rail and minecart, this can be exploited to make the BUD array below. All of the p-rails in this device act as sensors.
favourite to catch secret livestreams.!
Oct 27, 2011I've seen a lot of cobblestone generators, but never a smoothstone one, so I decided to make one! It creates two stone blocks at a time and uses my double piston extender to push both blocks out at once. So instead of just pushing smoothstone one at a time, which in itself is faster to collect than a cobble generator, it makes two and pushes them both, making it even faster to mine. It can also be used to make houses/rooms or whatever, but takes a few more pistons than with a normal cobble self-building house. Worth it, though - stone looks so much better than cobble :smile.gif:Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
Aug 30, 2011I designed this slow paced but fun game: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/587409-mushroom-racer-the-most-boring-sport-in-minecraft/Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
It forces mushrooms to grow in a straight line by not providing any other available squares. Now I realized that in addition to playing Mushroom Racer, this kind of farm could also be used as a random count down timer like this:
You'd place the first mushroom and let it spread down the track. A block update detector would react when a mushroom finally grows at the end and it would set off some device (maybe also causing water to clear all the mushrooms but the first one to restart the timer). Although it's impossible to predict how exactly how long the mushrooms will take to grow, you could control the average amount of time by how long the track is.
I could imagine this being useful in any kind of machine where you want to activate it after random long intervals. Or it could just be used as a fun kind of timer. "Complete the challenge map before the 100th mushroom grows!"
