posted a message on Getting rid of the punching wood in the beginning
    Quote from Eniliad »
I have a few serious problems with this. One, it makes the player absolutely need gravel on their first day in order to live, meaning that if they happen to spawn in an area without gravel (about half the game's biomes don't have them on the surface), you're screwed, making thousands of seeds unplayable depending on the spawn point. Two, it's even MORE of a Guide Dangit ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GuideDangIt ) than Minecraft already is. Three: You end up ruining the usage of both the new Hatchet and the Axe by splitting their usages. Make a woodcutting axe a weapon, but a hatchet a tool? Worse if you make the axe still a woodcutting tool, as it simply becomes redundant, and your hatchet will only see use on one day. (so do any wood tools, but still)
Finally, wood is so much more abundant than gravel, it's ridiculous. It's just so much easier to use wooden tools, since trees spawn literally anywhere in the world, in great number, than gravel, which is found occasionally on shorelines, or cliffsides, or underground, where newly spawned players wouldn't find it.

Besides, Minecraft is quirky that way. Punching wood is a staple of Minecraft now, and just because you label it "traditionalist" doesn't make it any less fun.

    Well stated. My thoughts exactly.

Ugh, is anyone else having problems with the new launcher? I made the mistake of deleting the 1.2 launcher and now I can't connect to MC.net because of the new launcher...

Do a search of the forums. You'll find the solution to your problem.

    Hey,

    Greetings.

I don't think so since the maps are saved in a new format.

Not only is the new way the redstone texture works ugly, but is also ruins texture packs. :/

I don't think it's that ugly, but it does mess up the redstone in my texture pack. I just changed the redstone back to default.

posted a message on create your own texture pack program?
Extract the files from minecraft.jar and then delete all the class files, leaving you with everything you need for a texture pack.

Then just right click and open each picture with your image editing program and save it so it overwrites the existing file. That way you know you're saving in the right folder each time.

Put all the files and folders in a zip file and put it in the texturepacks folder.

    Done.

I don't really see a need for a program since it's already so easy to do.

Could you elaborate on "wouldn't even open"? Does it work if you open the map.html in a browser? Which browser?

I opened map.html in Firefox and it was just blank. I let it sit for a few minutes in case it was loading the map tiles but nothing happened.

So, I decided to try and see what the closest camera zoom would give me using this world:

    Here's the settings:

    Sure took awhile.

    And a lot of space.

Here's a tile from the closest zoom.

After all that, the map wouldn't even open, it just stayed blank. I was pretty disappointed. But hey, it looks like it would be cool if it worked. :biggrin.gif:
