posted a message on What do you build best?

I'm not a builder. I prefer safe, heavy defenses and functionality to something grandiose but empty and impractical at the same time. When I see someone's work, first I admire it, then I start wondering how many creepers and zombies would spawn in it if it were on some other difficulties than peaceful.

The closest I have done is a Cobblestone castle in my main base. Ground floor is the throne room, first floor is my room, second floor is the trophy room, roof has access to a huge tower where I go at night to admire the view.

    I assume it's on survival?

It looks real nice, but I'd avoid extensive use of wood in open air. If a thunderstorm crosses by, your stuff can catch on fire pretty easy.

I agree with thepenmen22; there are a lot of buildings you can add if you plan a "full" town. In my MC PE creative world I made a city with a castle, a harbor with lighthouse, a museum, a library, a cosy woods, railway station, mine and whatnot. Of course, if you are really serious about it, you will also need a wall around it, and that's maybe the most time consuming part.

posted a message on How many bases do you have in your survival world?

    Hi everyone.

After reading so many threads about nomad challenges, people switching main base/losing their bases, and overall just establishing a foothold in the Nether or in the End, I started wondering how many bases would be considered a "good" amount.

NOTE: Count the bases in a single survival world, do not add across all your different games!

What defines a base: it isn't just a shelter you built overnight and then left there... else everyone would be full of bases around the world. To be qualified as a base, it needs to be safe from mob attacks, lighted up, and with some ways to provide for its own food (ex: wheat farms).

This said, here are my bases:

-My main base, 10 blocks from where my spawn point is (pretty handy). It's full of every kind of sheep, animals, trees, there's even a castle, a huge mine and whatnot.

-A house right below my main base, leading to the mine. Safe from mobs, equipped with a wheat farm, it could sustain me even if my main base exploded and I was forced to retreat underground.

-A fortress above the Stronghold. It has some farms and cows, as well as a pretty imposing wall, and a hand-made access to the Stronghold itself.

-A house in the End, complete with three farms and plenty of water to keep Endermen away.

-A fortified outpost to the other end of a far away Nether Portal, meant as a base to explore far away places and possibly find villages.

    Honorable mentions:

-A house deep inside the earth, on one side of a big lava lake. To the other side there's darkness, and mobs lurking. It's a pretty pleasant experience to be there; it even has a water fountain. No farms though.

-A castle in the Nether. Pretty cool but without any readily available resources... like everything in the Nether.

-A small outpost in the desert near my main base. I created it to hunt Endermen since the view was free from obstacles. It's impervious even to spiders but there's no farms or animals.

    What about you?

I think that digging down and placing a lever underneath the powered rail block should work. Unless your cart system runs on rails one on top of each other.

posted a message on How do you live your life in Minecraft?

I got very lucky in my main world and found a plain next to a desert (which happened to contain a Stronghold). I usually dig a hole in the side of a cliff in the plain and survive on bread until I have enough cobblestone and coal. At that point I emerge and build a 4-5 blocks tall wall around my property and light it up. From there I just expand my fortress and take in domesticated animals and the likes. It's pretty cool looking outside while on my wall to see the crawling darkness, while behind me everything is full of torches.

You can safely create the Overworld Nether Portal in your house and put wood in its room, as long as the other side is safe against everything.

In my Hardcore world I have the Nether Portal in my base, next to the main room; there's a fence around the Portal itself on both sides, and the Nether base is made out of cobblestone with iron doors, so nothing can come in through it.

posted a message on Challenges Please?

I'm not good at challenges so I'll just list some quests you could embark on.

-Create an underground shelter, connected to your house, rather spacious and with its own farm (at least wheat)

-Get a lot of sheeps and paint them with as many colors as you can, creating different pens for them. From here, create your own banner and sport it

-Find a village, place a lot of torches, make a wall around it and a path to your main base

-Make a safe shelter in the Nether (Pigmen don't spawn on half slabs/glass/carpets!)

-Find horses, tame/breed them, and build stables in ALL the bases you will make

-Create a castle with a trophy room with the rarest blocks you can find (Dragon Egg, Emerald, Slime Ball...)

-After you find a Stronghold, create a fortress on the surface right above it, and connect it to your main base

-Defeat the Ender Dragon without an Infinity Bow

-Last but not least; after you've killed the Dragon, gather the needed resources, and build a safe house in the End. Connect the End spawn point to the house with a path, then the house to the portal back to the Overworld with another path.

Aaand that's it. After you're done, you will find you not only accomplished somewhat lenghty and resource-consuming tasks, but also got a very efficient relay of bases, and after this, you can safely explore your world.

Gather enough Cobblestone to build a sizable wall around your home, so you can have some open space for yourself, your crops and your animals. Make sure to build it spider-proof, Endermen will still get in but you can just run to water/avoid eye contact/kill them.

posted a message on We were all noobs once. What is your minecraft noob story?

I started with Minecraft Pocket Edition.

I was very, very afraid of mobs, especially spiders (arachnophobia). I dug in a mountain and barred the exit with a dirt block. Zombies kept coming at the door making their horrible noises all night long.

When the day came, I went out looking for food. I spotted numerous spiders hanging from trees... and a cave in the distance that was literally infested of them. I was swimming in a river, and I quickly ventured back to my home. I had left it open and lightless, and a creeper was waiting for me inside.

I died and lost track. That was my first home ever in Minecraft.

Nowadays I'm playing on a computer. I stll go for mountain-dug holes and expand from there, even creating my own mine... and I always use the Cobblestone I find to create a wall all around my property, well-lit and spider-proof.

I suggest keeping a separate save for these occasions. Yes it's cheating, but if the game throws 2 dragons at once at you, I think you're justified to take your countermeasures.

Yeah sounds good LordPebbleton and good luck.

One tip regarding the spawning platform being away from the main island. Best thing to do is bring some ender pearls to throw and teleport over to the island. If you throw an ender pearl up at a 45 degree angle you can teleport up to 50 blocks away. It's pretty rare for the platform to be that far away. Hopefully you won't have to deal with that in this world.

Aye, in my main world I had the Pearls on me... but I would get knocked off the platform while the End was loading, and the moment I could see what was going on, it was already too late.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

I like heavy stone structures like bastions, forts and castles, and terraforming my surroundings. I don't have particularly interesting pics, but my buildings are always either massive and sky-high, super reinforced or down below the earth.

As of late I started an Hardcore world, and all that's visible from the outside of my house is a door with a sign and 4 torches. Inside the mountain there's a large, decorated room with a buried wheat farm; then a downward tunnel that goes all the way to Y=12 (with water at the bottom to prevent stupid deaths), a short walkway, and another house deep below, with an access to the true mines and another wheat farm.
