posted a message on What MC Version do you use? (POLL)

I wanted to get into mods... just as 1.9 hit. I don't want to revert to older versions because I like being up-to-date, and End Cities award really interesting loot I don't want to lose. I'm waiting for Forge to upgrade, while doing the things I have left to do in my world... get Silk Touch, unite all nearby villages into an Empire led by me, become horribly rich, find an ocean temple...

posted a message on Which is more important to you, building nice looking houses, or building bases meant only for survival.

I make use of different kind of bases to suit my needs:

    1. Castle, surrounded by a wall, with many farms and cozy living places; looks heavy on the outside, and is pretty comfortable on the inside.

    2. Mine base. I make a small outpost with spider-proof walls, heavy use of torches, farms, animals and whatnot. Then I build a house inside the perimeter, with a trapdoor leading to Y=11. You don't need to fend off monsters in hand-made caverns, so I just make a nice room out of wood and stone types with commodities, and another room for crops near the "main" one; then I dig my mine.

    3. Outpost. See number 2, but without any farms, or ways to sustain itself; used mostly as a shelter for one night.

    4. Fortified Village. Easily the most rewarding kind of base, since it's already there, with trading villagers and crops, I just add a spider-proof wall, a house of my own, stables for fast transportation, and a path to the main base.

As you can see, I value both safe zones and nice houses, and I try to mix the two to get the maximum out of my world. As of late, I've been experimenting with the Nether and the End, trying to craft the ultimate safe base, cutting out the "cozy" side somewhat.

    5. Nether Castle. Imagine a castle made out of Cobblestone, with an inner courtyard and a walled out side, with the rest of the sides facing a giant lava lake, on which the castle itself hovers. Imagine corridors of glass and cobblestone connecting every section of said castle, with carpets everywhere to prevent Pigmen spawning, and ceilings made to avoid Ghasts spawning. There are chickens, watermelons, wheat, carrots, and potatoes; I could technically live forever in the Nether with that, if I added some saplings, but I have no interest in living in said place; I just wanted to prove myself I can keep everyone and everything out of my things.

Lastly, there's a tower going all the way up to Bedrock, where there's a room made of wood and various stones, a "custom" chair facing a fireplace, and pictures on the walls; carpets are everywhere. Just to prove once more that I can do what I want, even in the wild Nether.

    6. Ultimate safe base. It doesn't get any safer than what I have achieved in the End. A house completely surrounded by a 2x1 water moat (so Endermen cannot get near), cactuses on top of the house (so Endermen cannot teleport up), solid rock below (so Endermen cannot teleport there too), and a 2-high space inside the house itself (so Endermen cannot teleport in). Once you enter said house, you're safe from any and all threats, granted you've killed the Dragon. I enjoy watching the Endermen from my windows so they don't get angry, or jump into the moat and hack away at one of them, helplessly trying to hit me.

There are various crop types outside, and a chest with a pumpkin to wear as a helm for maximum safety even around the perimeter.

posted a message on What have you done recently?

I have two main goals right now:

-Raid End Cities to find a Silk Touch tool so I can harvest grass, and make the Nether and the main End platform happier places

-Find all nearby villages and connecting them to my huge main base with roads, empowering the helpless villagers with huge walls and torches, with the intent of making an empire capable of standing against the wild, empty world... my empire.

posted a message on How much damage has the 1.9 Ender Dragon done to your End buildings?

    Hi everyone.

Title says it all. Before 1.9 hit, everyone had already built at least a house in the End, if anything, as a memento for defeating the Ender Dragon. Respawning him is almost a must, unless you want to make an endless bridge to the nearest body of floating land to find Elytras and End Cities.

What did the Dragon destroy of your creations?

I had it "easy" because I just had a small, totally Endermen-proof house with some crops and a Cobblestone Path from spawn to portal, just to show the Endermen who's boss.

The Dragon destroyed the enclosed area of the old portal, a good half of said house, and erected an obsidian pillar on the Cobblestone path.

Not a big loss as I said, because he spared my chests and I was able to just rebuild the base, mine the base of the pillar to make a cool passage through it, and enclose the new portal area.

I even added more crops and claimed an obsidian pillar, shaping it into a tower, and also enclosed the newly spawned portal to the outer End, on both ends.

    What about you?

Oh damn. I'd really hate to convert back to 1.8... and I don't really feel like going all the way to 1.7. My goal also was to keep going on my main world, since strongly dislike having more than one. But I guess I'll have to deal with it...

You make it too easy. I find the charm in Minecraft is to survive with what you have, instead of specifically wanting to spawn in it.

Of course, if I spawn in an endless desert, that's another story. But if I'm in a "normal" biome with trees and whatnot, I'll start to look for a mountainside and carve a crude room inside of it; then decorate it with wood, Granite, Diorite, Andesite.

No. It doesn't work that way. You can't load worlds backwards in time.

I was actually thinking about leaving the End chunk unloaded while mods were on so maybe it would stay the same on my next, unmodded visit... but I don't think it's worth the headache to switc versions and living in fear of making a bad move. Gonna figure out something. Any chance Forge will be upgraded to 1.9?

    Don't play 1.9.

    Either use Forge or FTB

Is it possible to switch between mods and 1.9 without losing any items?
For example... I do my stuff in the End, don't carry out anything from the End that has been added in 1.9 and go back to my Overworld base. Then I switch to Forge, with all my mods and whatnot; I avoid going in the End at this point.
If I go back to 1.9 and re-enter the End, will it be the same as when I left it?

    Okay I have a problem.

it is my understanding that Forge is required to play mods without much trouble. But Forge is updated to 1.8.9 and not 1.9.

How do I deal with this?

If you're using 1.8, you can try thaumcraft 5, intangible, and the new botania port. If you're playing 1.7.10, There is Thaumcraft 4.2, Botania, witchery, Ars Magica 2 etc. For 1.9, I really don't know.

Nope, I like to always be up-to-date. I'm playing 1.9.
As for the others, gonna look them up now!

posted a message on I want mods!

    Hi everyone.

I've almost finished all my vanilla Minecraft projects and I want to start looking into mods. I figured I could ask here for some that are really worth it. What I'm looking for is:

-New dimensions (I think I've read something about Deep Dark, Twilight Forest, LotR)

    -I don't mind new items

    -Possibly new dungeons

    -More mechanics

However, I do not want other texture packs if possible. I like the look of my Minecraft, and in every video I've seen there are people using hideous packs so I decided against it. Do you have any mod "meeting" the requirements that you think is interesting enough?

    Thanks in advance.

posted a message on I know too much?

I have recently finished a project that turned out quite good. I like to call it "Safe Nether". It consists of a few main points.

Go to the Nether and make:

-A safe room for yourself, with fences to keep portal-spawned pigmen from roaming around

    -A lookout tower

    -A courtyard

-A enemy spawn-proof farm (I suggest melons and ducks)

-A room right below the Bedrock at the top of the Nether

All of which must be completely free from Pigmen and Ghasts (Half slabs - carpets). Make secluded walkways to move around the fortress if your courtyard is too big (it has happened to me).

The goal is to be able to treat your Nether spot as if it were in the Overworld, free from any danger or threat (apart from the already mentioned portal-Pigmen, which could be removed too if you deactivate the portal on the Nether's end, of course with Flint and Steel with you).

posted a message on What is your luckiest/funniest Minecraft moment?

I am afraid of mobs. Usually I can go around a field yelling at them ripping them to shreds, but if there's a dark corner in a cavern with something possibly lurking behind it I get super nervous.

So I was exploring this pretty big cave right near my main fortress. Nothing fancy, I just wanted to clear it because a portion ran beneath my base, and there was plenty of coal there.

I clear it all and I see a Coal block on the ground.

    "Yay coal!"

I get on top of it, patiently mine it out, then sink into the ground.

There was a huge, dark-as-night, horrifying cave just beneath the cave. I sat stunned for a moment, then switched to my 64 Dirt blocks with unholy speed, and jumped on the spot creating a column. I didn't look back; my hearts restored easily... but I won't get back there any time soon.

As for luckiest, one of my early lucky moments I recall was me being mining in my hand-made mine at layer Y=12, wondering if I'd ever find Slime Balls for ropes (I was new back then, and wanted to secure some nearby horses before getting Saddles).

As I go back to the surface ladder, I see something moving in the distance, deep underground.

I took my Stone Sword, speechless. An Enderman?

No! It was a huge slime, casually strolling towards me. Looks like I dug up a slime spawn chunk. Got myself about 6 Slime Balls and got my horses. I was so happy!
