I want to believe it, but I don't think I can. Anything Mojang can do, the community can do better, and I think that adopting Forge AS the official API would be a better idea than creating a whole new one. I hope I'm wrong though.Quote from AidenKhaal
What i find funny is that they decide to extend their reach to forge mods with the impending launch of 1.6, and later 1.7, which will end forge as we know it.

I disagree. Look at all the different ways users can filter and search for mods. I think that will make it a lot easier to find and be found.Quote from Geforce132
This would be great for people like Risugami and Eloraam who get 5 million downloads within 5.7281 femtoseconds of porting their mods to the newest version. Not so much for smaller, lesser known mods... . It would a much longer time to accumulate enough points to earn anything if your mods not as well known. But ill still try it .

Does this mean that *soon* the Official Minecraft launcher will be able to directly access this site, download and install mods without users needing to know anything?
And if that can be done, it'd be a simple step to allow whole mod packs to be created, shared, and used that way. Anyone could make a mod pack with any mods on the site, and anyone could install it, and the mod authors will still get the credit/points they deserve for it.
I'm really excited about this! Will be uploading my mods sometime this weekend. - To post a comment, please login.

Eno had a link to it on the op, not sure where it went.

Marco hasn't done any code in a long time.

Edit: Done. Well, it's untested since the recipes are broken right now, but it should work.

Wait, there are people who port their worlds forward? I create a new world for every version. The first rule of mods is that they're volatile, and nothing can be saved. But then I also climb tech-trees with incredible speed.
Forestry already has a plant-based backpack.
I don't care enough to maintain that many mod items. Stuff keeps changing. I'll be making a new configuration system for adding items, hopefully it'll be much better. 17's Item dictionary is great and will make it much easier for me and users.
I only put 2.1.9 up a few days ago. It turns out that for three months 2.1.8 ....... just didn't work. And no one noticed, not even me.
Does anyone actually use this mod? Maybe I should just abandon it.

You're trying to do a bit of modding? Well More Backpacks is going to need a lot of work one Forestry is 1.7 ready, and I'll need help with mod compatibility. It'll be technically simple, just a bit tedious. Would you be interested when the time comes?
Actually, the entire reason I created More Backpacks was as an exercise to learn modding. I don't actually use it, and now that I'm finally ready to tackle the more complex mods I originally wanted, I have less interest in maintaining these older smaller ones.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though, all that stuff will be getting a rewrite for 1.7.

The thing is ......... that version has been out for over three months. Three months, 856 downloads ......... and you're the only one who noticed that it's completely broken, not even I realized it. Clearly I have the best user base ever. Lol.
Fortunately it was easy to fix; it was a really stupid stupid quirk.
However, expect mod compatibility to be very bad. I haven't updated things in a long time and large parts are surely outdated. 1.7 will change all that as the new item system will make fixing that much much easier. I'll start on that whenever Forestry get's public 1.7 versions out.

I started it up myself and yep, same problem. Guess I'll have to switch BACK to a 1.6.4 dev environment and fix this nonsense.

But yes, try running it without any other necessary mods, to see if that works, and if it does then post your mod list and we'll try to track down what mod is causing it.
I guess I'll be sure to include a sanity check in future versions to prevent a crash, though it would still leave the backpack useless.
