Working API for adding new potion effects should be ready for 1.7. Think I'll work on that today actually.

Edit: Done. Well, it's untested since the recipes are broken right now, but it should work.

My view on 1.7 is simple: I'm skipping it. Not sure about 1.8 or not.

When I update, I'm starting with a fresh world. Too many changes to worldgen, too many things showing their age (twilight forest has changed drastically since my world started, the forest that I have has a number of things that no longer exist or are impossible combinations, and is missing a lot of things that will require finding new chinks to find; vanilla overworld is different; etc).

And oddly, what made me look at More Backpacks was things like Underground Biome providing 24 types of stone (and the new version providing all the slabs, stairs, etc, to go with it), Plant MegaPack adding about 200 new plants, a desire to work with lots of redstone blocks, etc. (Redstone, Artist, possibly Logistical. Silly me, I thought "Farmers" was about plants, but I just double checked -- it's not.).

It's taken me a long time to decide that I do want a better inventory system than vanilla's, given the large increase in item types; but I don't want black-hole style golden bags of holding containing golden bags of holding. Backpacks are just about right. Forestry's base set are not enough.

You might want to update the nuclear reactor backpack to work with ReactorCraft ... Greg isn't the only nuke in town anymore. Even the Electrician's should work with RotaryCraft.

2.1.8 looked like it was just an update to the new core, with no new features or bug fixes.
2.1.9 I did not even know about until now.
I can't even imagine skipping a version. I'm too impatient to wait. I'm quite the opposite, I want the latest and best, and I hate every time I'm forced to go back to 1.6 to fix a bug or something.

Wait, there are people who port their worlds forward? I create a new world for every version. The first rule of mods is that they're volatile, and nothing can be saved. But then I also climb tech-trees with incredible speed.

Forestry already has a plant-based backpack.

I don't care enough to maintain that many mod items. Stuff keeps changing. I'll be making a new configuration system for adding items, hopefully it'll be much better. 17's Item dictionary is great and will make it much easier for me and users.

I only put 2.1.9 up a few days ago. It turns out that for three months 2.1.8 ....... just didn't work. And no one noticed, not even me.

Does anyone actually use this mod? Maybe I should just abandon it.

Well, in my case, I'm still trying to assemble a stable 164 pack that isn't a major memory consumer (I may have set my sights too high). My playtime total has been very low, and I'm trying to learn minecraft modding to fix an issue interfacing ATG and Mystcraft, and extending Linking Tweaks to reduce Mystcraft's OP-ness. And while I haven't had any crash or startup error that I've seen, I also have not yet made one of your backpacks.

EDIT: Which version of more backpacks is the working one? (I've probably got several ... no, odd, only 217.)
The very latest is 2.1.9. Be sure to check the Curse downloads page and change log there. I don't update the MC forums thread as regularly, since it's more difficult.

You're trying to do a bit of modding? Well More Backpacks is going to need a lot of work one Forestry is 1.7 ready, and I'll need help with mod compatibility. It'll be technically simple, just a bit tedious. Would you be interested when the time comes?

Actually, the entire reason I created More Backpacks was as an exercise to learn modding. I don't actually use it, and now that I'm finally ready to tackle the more complex mods I originally wanted, I have less interest in maintaining these older smaller ones.

I am having a problem with this mod keeping the items in the bags and I can not figure out what is wrong. I tried removing all other mods and just put forestry-A-2.3.1.1,More_Backpacks-2.1.9, and RedGearCore-2.0.4a in the mod folder. Using minecraft 1.6.4 with forge 9.11.1.965.

The scripts I make work to put the items in the backpack, but they do not stay in the backpack. I used a test script with just "[email protected]:;" just to test it. The furnace goes into the backpack, but then immediately falls to the ground once I close the backpack. I have tried picking up the item off the ground and it still does not go into the backpack. It is the same for all the backpacks from this mod. They do pick up the items they are supposed to though.

The forestry backpacks work fine. Even with a custom item script. Ex: "[email protected]:;" allows a furnace to enter the Hunter Backpack.
It's not your fault. It looks like Forestry doesn't understand wild card metadata. Using explicit values might work.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though, all that stuff will be getting a rewrite for 1.7.

I'm sorry to bring you such news at April 1st. And I hope it will be easy for you to fix mod.
Don't be sorry, in fact, thank you.

The thing is ......... that version has been out for over three months. Three months, 856 downloads ......... and you're the only one who noticed that it's completely broken, not even I realized it. Clearly I have the best user base ever. Lol.

Fortunately it was easy to fix; it was a really stupid stupid quirk.

However, expect mod compatibility to be very bad. I haven't updated things in a long time and large parts are surely outdated. 1.7 will change all that as the new item system will make fixing that much much easier. I'll start on that whenever Forestry get's public 1.7 versions out.

No. Only backpacks from Forestry itself. Reinstalled Minecraft from scratch, installed Forge 9.11.1.965, copied forestry-A-2.3.1.1.jar, More_Backpacks-2.1.8.jar, RedGearCore-2.0.4a.jar into mods folder and created single player world. Backpacks still doesn't work (same error). Found another error (non-crushing) in minecraft initialization:

Doesn't hunger overhaul replace all vanilla food with its own versions, giving no vanilla food items in the game?

What mods are being used that affect food?
That's an interesting point, but even if the mod make them unavailable or replaces the item class, it still shouldn't cause that crash because all it's using is the item ID, which should never just vanish.

But yes, try running it without any other necessary mods, to see if that works, and if it does then post your mod list and we'll try to track down what mod is causing it.

I guess I'll be sure to include a sanity check in future versions to prevent a crash, though it would still leave the backpack useless.

I would like o use this addon you shown here once I've gotten forestry working since it will be helpful, but until I can figure out why I'm crashing I'm not gonna get anywhere. My point being is how do I fix this? I've tried everything to get Forestry to work. I know it's compatible with fossils and archeology.
    Not my problem.

It's strange. May be it is due to other addons (78 in total). And I didn't find "printItemRegistry" in config files. Tried to add "B:printItemRegistry=true" into general section of RedGearCore and MoreBackpacks configs, and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to solve the problem?
I can't imagine how anything could cause that. I really can't. I guess somehow NOTHING is being put into the list of allowed items, but that should be plain impossible since it uses vanilla ones.

What about the other backpacks? Do they work?

Well, I'm playing the fossils and archeology mod which is on 1.5.2 right now but it will go into 1.6 very very soon (the pre-release was yesterday in fact) but not being able to get forestry to work under any circumstance is very very annoying. I need those different trees to make suitable habitat for my animals and the pack also has marble which is necessary for my main base to look nice since I'm building a dino park and all.
........ What does that have to do with me?
