Oct 12, 2011Some say Minecraft is evil and demonic. Some say deeply preaches the word of God. Here's an example of the latter.Posted in: Discussion
Oct 6, 2011I created a new world in 1.9 Prerelease 3 and to my surprise I spawned on top of a stronghold! You can tell because Jeb_ accidentally left a debug feature that marks strongholds with glass pillars that reach the sky! Anyway, I spawned on an island with these two glass pillars.Posted in: Seeds
I broke the glass and descended into the stronghold. I explored it a little bit and I quickly found those weird crystal blocks.
They seem to spawn over lava wells. I wonder what these are gonna turn into? After taking the screenshot I noticed I was getting pushed around.
Oh noes! Silverfish spawners? This is creative mode so I didn't bother killing the little guys. Instead, I explored more. I found the library!
The diamond sword was because of a sudden creeper in the library. I found a chest with paper and a map inside! The library is a little weird and opens up to a lava flow. That's too close to the wood for my tastes!
The rest of the stronghold was uneventful. It's pretty small compared to some other ones I've seen but it's intact for the most part! Here's the seed for you guys:
Sep 22, 2011I was hoping they would be Pigmen, or maybe human mobs so I could reskin them as another player skin, but I really enjoy the new model and separate classes. At first they looked like birdmen to me, but I realized it was a nose not a beak.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion

Alternate Villagers V2 for 1.1
Custom model and textures by KodaichiZero. Special thanks for screenshots and testing to Kingkottah, VGfreak97, VikomMedia and TwoGunPanda. Original character design is owned by the artist Dock.
A nice video showcase with a high-res texture pack by BluExMist.
A top-shelf telecast by GameChap and Bertie, wherein the two hosts destroy an entire village's water supply.
A little demonstration video by GerMinecrafter, featuring assault and murder :tongue.gif:
A similar video to the above, by MegaCrafterGER. This one features cheery chiptunes and arson!
The first and most obvious question is: "What in the heck is that thing?" Well, it's Rana. To make a long story short, Rana was once an NPC along with a few other strange people in an early version of indev as a result of Dock becoming the official artist, but after he left, Rana went along with him. The full story is here. But anyway, although the original model is not compatible with Minecraft anymore, I coded a similar version to recreate the feeling of living in a world populated by frog girls. Now that villager NPCs are actually back in the game, I've replaced the not-so-cute Testificates with something that players may find a bit more eye-pleasing. It's up to you whether you like them or not, but the choice is now yours to make.
...And there's one other type of villager that I made a skin for, but they do not currently spawn in-game... or are just extremely rare.
This mod is purely graphical, which means that it will work in SMP as well, although only farmer villagers spawn in SMP. It also should be compatible with all other 1.9 pre3 and pre4 mods. To better assist those not familiar with Minecraft mod installation, a full explanation is available below. For those that do - just drag it into the jar as usual. ModLoader is not required.
- Three steps.

Alternate Villagers V1.1 - for 1.9 pre4
Alternate Villagers V1 - for 1.9 pre3
Donate: ...only if you want to!
Some things to note: If you have access to the original MD3 model or a recreation of it, I can't implement them because the game does not support those kinds of models anymore.
Nov 14, 2011Farowe posted a message on Potential usage of the enderpearl in the final battleRecently i tested the enderdragon fight and noticed that in order to defeat the dragon you are almost forced to use the bow (atleast for destroying the ender crystals); i strongly disagree with this as you are forced to stick to a single fighting style.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
"Damn, i should have bring my bow"
I noticed the presence of the endermen to be annoying, and then i came with this idea, ¿why not adjust the towers so people are able to climb to the top by using the enderpearls so we can destroy the ender crystal with close range weapons?
It would certainly make it a lot more fun and would make close range weapons feasible to use AND it would give meaning to the presence of the enderman in the battle as they drop enderpearls thus they would be potential elements to win the battle
Obviously some things would need to be adjusted like the damage you receive when teleporting, the range of the throw ,the design of the obsidian tower top, or making the ender crystal¨s explosion not damage the player. A suggestion of my own would be to add a small platform to the obsidian towers and a spiral stair that reaches the top
You throw the enderpearl just below the torches
You enter and climb through a spiral stairway
You can destroy the ender crystal with close range weapons
To get off you simply throw an enderpearl below, as enderman spawn endlessly you can always gain more enderpearls; And this way you could make a good use of your unused lvl 50 diamond sword.
That way the fight would allow to more ways of achieving the victory, the player will not be limited to only use the bow and the enderman around will have an strategical purpose
Sep 27, 2011I've been lurking for quite some time on these boards, and while a lot of people are quite satisfied with the direction and content of minecraft, there is a tenacious bunch who constantly complain about updates not being fast enough, big enough, or including content we don't agree with.Posted in: Discussion
In my gaming experience, I have found minecraft to be far different than any other game in that Notch (Up to this point, at least) has given all new content to all people who own the game, for the mere one time fee of 20 dollars. Every game I have purchased from any other publisher has charged at minimum 1.99 up to 14.99 for every drop of new content, on top of the exorbitant ~59.99 purchase cost. Take an MMO into account and you pay 10 to 15 dollars every month, and new content may only come two to three times per year.
It is my conclusion that Notch is far more generous in regards to content than any other game developer I have come across, yet somehow he is berated constantly for being a fatcat who refuses to slave constantly over new content. It is amazing to me that he hasn't simply taken your twenty dollars, ended the game at beta, and stopped developing entirely.
TL:DR I am astonished that people think Notch has any obligation to produce new content (FOR NO EXTRA DLC FEE) for the game besides his own love for the project and any monetary gain he receives from it's development.
