Good for them! I'm totally fine with Mojang earning more money for their game.

posted a message on help people update minecraft
Minecraft should be able to upgrade automatically as soon as you log in. If it fails to update, go into the bin folder inside your Minecraft appdata folder and rename the minecraft.jar file to minecraftOLD.jar. Minecraft will realize that the jar file is missing so I will reinstall it automatically without deleting any saved worlds (you will have to reinstall and mods, however).

posted a message on Minecraft Public Server Issue - Fixed
Well it says it's out of memory in the error message, so it's safe to say your host is right. I recommend trying to uninstall World Guard to test if the server can load then. If not, back up all of your plugins and then remove them to see if your server's memory can handle having no plugins at all. How much RAM did you buy?

posted a message on Minecraft Realms For Everyone!
A ) Currently anyone can host their own server for free off of their own computers. Mojang cannot "automatically handle" the "IP stuff" because that would require gaining access to your router's administrative control panel.

B ) Mojang cannot make it a free service because it would cost way too much money to maintain all of those servers. I you don't believe me then I don't think you fully appreciate what goes into making web servers run.

C ) The point of this service is to provide simple dedicated servers to those who aren't serious techies and only need a small vanilla environment to play with their friends. In other words, it's for the people who don't know or don't care about taking care of a server themselves. Having other people do the hard work for you (Mojang) costs money.

D ) Most servers (with the exception of special 3rd party hosting services that charge per slot) are not limited by 4 players. The limit is set by the amount of ram allocated to the server which can change depending on the service you choose.

Judging by the your OP, I'm not sure if you really do understand what Minecraft Realms is nor how servers work (I'm not antagonizing you. Most people don't know this stuff, and I don't fully understand it either)

posted a message on Should I host my own server or buy one?
I'd recommend starting off by hosting the server off of your own computer. You may end up finding that server hosting isn't as fun as you might have hoped, or you may love it and wish to upgrade. When I started my spleef server, I originally hosted it off of my computer, but eventually it got so popular that I decided to pay for a host. It's better to start small and discover a love for hosting than to commit money in a server and then find that you are bored after the first week.

posted a message on Skycannon Needs donators (YOU CAN GET CO OWNER)
I'd recommend starting the server before trying to get people to donate to it. Even though you would start off in debt by renting the server, it will be better in the long run because you won't get any donations otherwise (why would people invest their money in a server which appears to have been started on a whim?). If you're too hard on cash you can starts small by hosting the server directly off your computer or an old unused computer that's lying around in your house that no one uses. Of course, it makes it more difficult to host it if you have it directly from your computer, but at least you'd have it for free and can start building the community before paying for a server.

Sweet, all i know is the console wont be called Xbox 720,the name doesnt make sense. If it is called that ill eat my hat.
Sitting infront of a computer feels like work to me too.
I have been thinking what will happen to XBL for the 360,id hate to see it just scrapped,Ive spent quite abit of money on my account and i wont be too happy if they arent playable because the new system comes out.Backwards capability would be nice,so we can keep our accounts and downloads.

Nothing's going to happen to XBL. Why would Microsoft waste money on creating an entirely new network for people to connect to when they already have a perfectly good one? Not to mention, I doubt they would make everyone purchase a brand new account because it would drive people towards purchasing the PS4 instead.

The best fix is easy and I already said it. Implement something more similar to Transporter into the game. Nothing widespread, nothing that involves lists or signing up or anything like that. Just a new block, that you need to have OP/Admin rights to access, that you use to make a portal. Upon making the portal, you are prompted to enter an IP addess to the server you want to connect to. Then if the OP/Admin makes one on their server with the first server's IP, then they can connect. It's simple, concise, much more secure, takes most of the overhead off of Mojang, and doesn't inhibit cross play between Creative and Survival servers, as they would know the server type when they are coming to an agreement about connecting to each other.

If it makes a sort of spawn area that cannot be altered (similar to the spawn on any server) then the OP/Admin just places it somewhere where it will be safe and then it protects itself. Simple, safe, and useful. Plus it could be adapted to Single Player, where if the game sees that you build a portal when not on a server it brings up a list of your other worlds so you can play between worlds. So that's like a bonus, if people want it.

I think a solution to this would be to give servers their own "server friends list." Upon the server A starting up, it pings all of the servers on that friends list. A portal can only connect between the servers if the other server (let's say server B ) pings back and also has server A on its friends list. The responsibility would then be for the server owners to decide whether or not to allow members from other servers to cross between portals to their own server. Of course this system would still be quite complex because server A would have to ping server B every time a player wants to pass through the portal in case server B goes offline. There would also have to be an option for server owners to disable multi-server (between more than 2 servers) travel. That way if server B was an idiot and friended the griefing server X, server A would not get a flood of griefers because each player going through portals would have an encrypted tag stating their original server. Lastly, there would also have to be a blocked servers list. It would be a similar mechanic to preventing multi-server travel because it would use the encrypted tags of the players to track their original server; however, only members originally from that server (let's say server X which is friended to server B but not to A) would be banned while members of other servers that are "friends of friends" would not be blocked.

    No restrictions on server travel:
    Server A <---> Server B <---> Friends of server B (including server X)

    Multi-server travel disabled:
Server A <~~~> Server B <---> Friends of server B (including server X) can connect to B, but not to A

    Blocking a specific server:
Server A <~(blocking server X)~> Server B <---> All friends of server B can connect to server A except server X

Inverse to blocking a server (whitelisting friends of friends):
Server A <~(server X is whitelisted)~> Server B <---> All friends of server B are blocked except for Server X

    Other important settings to consider:
Enabling/disabling item travel (bringing items with you through a portal)
... umm well I can't really think of any others at the the moment, but I'm sure there's way more that would have to go into it.

For nostalgia's sake, I went onto Bad Company 2 today on Xbox. I still think that BC2 was a better game than BF3, but I was wondering if others still wanted to play that game.

If you want to squad up with me some time, leave your gamer tag in a reply.

    Very nice :D
    Quote from Killergp123

First of all, I want to say thank you very much thelicoriceman!

I suck at the designing portion of sites so this template was a lifesaver! I've got many things working on it already, but I've barely started the PHP/javascript coding. I have more planned, but getting through the few listed in WIP items before adding more.

List of things I have working:
    • In-game login on the site thanks to xauth using mysql
    • Realtime server status (only updated every 5 minutes to prevent flooding of my server) and playerlist
    • Simple news loading from a mysql table
    • Simple donation page loading from mysql table and going directly to purchase based on package selection via Buycraft
    • Profile pages loading all permissions/groups from PermissionsEX for that player including link and description on the item itself
    • Simple function to check if they are in a certain group in-game IE: ELITE or admin to offer more functionality
    Work in progress items:
    • Editing of email and password for in-game login on site including a forgot password function - 80% done
    • Editing of suffix/prefix for PermissionsEX on profile page - 80% done
    • Comments for profiles and news items - 20% done
    • Admin panel to edit/create many aspects of the misc mysql tables. IE: News/profiles - 0% done
The only thing I can think of that would make this template even more awesome is being able to change from the 900px width.

Thanks again, and if you want to see what I've done so far you can view it here.

I would recommend using a separate username and login for your site because it could pose a potential security risk if people are writing their username and password from the game itself.

posted a message on Question about mod api
With the new mod api coming up in the 1.5 future update, do you think it will be possible to prevent a player from joining/kick a player if they decline downloading mods necessary to playing on a server? I can imagine it would cause conflicts if you couldn't.

posted a message on 1.5 too low on content?
There are potentially infinite possibilities with all the additions that they made. You can now literally do almost anything. Redstone was sorely missing new ideas and content. I don't know about you, but I was getting sooooooo tired of seeing every other redstone video be about another stupid 3x3 door that someone had probably already made.

    Things you can do:
    • instant computers (more easily)
    • hexadecimal logic (thanks to analog redstone and comparators)
    • fully vanilla, fully automated adventure maps (more easily)
    • wireless redstone without utilizing entity/block update glitches
    and so much more!

Oh and I also think it could be possible to make an incredibly compact and fast 1x1 pixel size screen, but I have yet to try that.
