However, excessive swearing is very annoying. When it gets to the point that swearing is the majority of your post (excluding transition words and stuff like that), there should be a verbal warning. One that doesn't go on a record, but a "Stop, or I will give you an actual warning" or something like that. This would only be for the people that take it way too far, such as if the OPs example is a users normal post.

In many cases, we do that. A PM to the person swearing excessively, telling them to "chill out" is common. A note is then left on their profile saying they've been notified about it, and if it keeps happening a Warning should be given.

But if it's outright flaming, official Warnings are almost given without a verbal warning. If only in defense of the person being flamed against. Justice, if you want to call it that.

Of course changes your opinion. I feel the same way. I, naturally, can't ignore anyone because I need to be able to see what's going on around here.

A user who swears above the PG level (hell, damn, ass, etc.) is immature. You can't slice it any other way. You wouldn't use that language in polite conversation in real life, and just because you can swear casually here doesn't mean you should. There is no need. If you have to resort to swearing to get your point across, you've already lost the argument.

We do provide the freedom for users to swear, but that freedom comes with the responsibility to use that privilege wisely. Those who abuse that privilege accept the risk of being seen as less-mature members of the community.

Whilst I agree in principle, it functionally doesn't work. This is the internet, dammit, and people are going to swear no matter what rules are in place.

We DO draw the line at it being used against someone, as stated in the rules. The example given, "F**k man mothaf**ka check the sh*t out of this f**king video" is calling the readers "mothaf**ka"s and that DOES get a Warning from us. If you see anything like it, report it and it will be taken care of.

Swearing for the sake of swearing means nothing in itself. Swearing against someone is flaming and against the rules. Note that flaming doesn't necessarily need to include swearing. Just as not all swearing is flaming, so not all flaming is swearing.

In addition, swearing can be Spam, and we'd remove that as well.

I really hate the new forums...

This statement helps us not at all. And you joined today. Did you have an account on the old forums, did you know them at all?

Curse is working through all the issues they find, and we're keeping track of aesthetic changes people want to see, so that changes can be made when Curse is ready to do so. What do you hate? Why do you hate it? What would you do differently? Post that tell us these things give us some direction. Telling us you "hate" them doesn't help us improve them.

Well please do not assume that we would make such arguments. Your tone in the OP suggests that we're all a bunch of idiots.

    1) If a thread is closed instead of moved, it was deemed not worthy for ANY forum, or there was already a thread in the proper forum and moving it would have only had made a duplicate thread.

    2) We Remove threads from public view all the time. If something is Closed and left visible, it is to a: allow the participants to see that it was closed and why and b: to serve as a lesson to others not to make those sorts of threads.

    3) Closed threads fall off the front page quickly, and are automatically moved to the Trash after a certain period of time (a day or so). Rather than blame the Mods for leaving a "messy forum," a better focus of efforts would be helping to encourage the community not to create threads that will get closed in the first place.

Please post examples of each of those counter arguments being used, ever.

With the new, much improved, reporting system, we're clearing all the reports out every night, so there's nothing that requires moderating that isn't being handled (so long as it's brought to our attention).

    This doesn't really help.

    That is completely useless.

It helps perfectly, if you're looking for your most recent posts.

As for the threads being out of order, I'll bring this up with Curse. I'd like to see a sort based on when you last posted in that thread and when anyone has last posted.

And yes, the search limit is set to when the move happened. Sorry, that's the way it is. AFAIK, it's due to the database differences between php and IPB. If you want to have a thread included in the search of your content, you'll have to find the thread manually and post in it. After that it should be included.

There is a drop down box in Find my Content, to the right side above the content. Select "View all posts by..." and you will get the posts with the newest first.

Since tombones is no longer updating this thread, I'm going to be closing it.

Those who have taken up the project can have their own threads on it, but this one will stay closed until tombones takes it up again.

Please link this thread for reference to any projects that use it, and give credit where it's due.
