Do you think you're going to fix the problem by getting enough moderators to lock every single one of the massive amounts of stupid threads that come up each day?

I know I sure don't. Yes, staff can clean things up ASAP, but you're right that it's not a cure-all.

The measure of a community is in it's members. The sad truth is that as long as there are "veterans" around that troll and flame and don't care about getting in trouble, the problems are going to persist. n00bs, for all their faults, suit themselves to the forum around them. If they see anarchy, they will likely join in.

There's only so much staff can do to guide or force the community to "grow up" without becoming oppressive. And no one wants that.

posted a message on Are we allowed to post KKK related materials on the forum?
Swasticas (or like imagery like flaming crosses) are not allowed, they do nothing but inspire hate.

If you want to talk about the KKK, you're taking the risk. Flaming and racism will NOT be tolerated, so if you're going to do it, you had better be able to keep it civil and historical.

You can bet that any thread about the KKK, or Nazis, or anything like that, will be constantly reported, and we'll be watching it very closely. It's your ass on the line, so you may want to think twice before starting something like that.

    Yes, your brother can join.

But keep in mind, we're not stupid, and "brother" accounts don't hide behavior. So if a user posted some porn, for example, and then a "brother" account was made that started miraculously posting porn, we're going to put 2 and 2 together pretty quick, and not only would the "brother" get a Permaban, but the main account would get a hefty ban as well.

So I would remind your brother to be on his best behavior.

posted a message on Need Help: How to delete your Account
You can't. This is for several reasons, particularly so that if your account is hacked the hacker can't just delete your account.

Admins are the only ones who can. Typically account deletion requests are done through PMs or the Forum Help forum.

I typically ask if the user is sure, but it seems like you are. Request granted. Goodbye.

    Thread Closed.

Well, yeah, true, but it's really past that point now. Minecraft when it started wasn't worth more than a fan-run "official" forum. I'm sure Mojang will probably need their own forums as they create more games, but for now it's just us and other fan sites.

We would never have a "ninja" feature on these forums. Everything and anything done is seen by the Admins, and almost everything is seen by the Mods. You cannot hide, we will find you, there is no escape. B)

As Beltir said, there's no functional difference between a bump post and a bump button, when it comes to bumping. The difference is how it makes bumping accepted.

A bump button would be really nothing more than an official support of bumping; it'd be us saying "go ahead and bump." It's not going to happen. Bumping is not allowed, no matter how much you want to get the word out. Everyone wants to get their own word out, and yes, Darwinism is the only fair way for us to manage that. Good topics survive, poor topics die.

    Don't bump. End of Line.

Ok, again, Notch and Mojang have nothing to do with these forums. It doesn't matter how rich he is, he does not pay the bills here, nor even participate in discussions.

The lack of it is a noted issue. It'll be fixed soon, hopefully.

If you go to My Settings, and then Forums, there are two check boxes to prevent loading of signatures and avatars. Is that what you were looking for?

I have no idea. I was just tossing it out as a possibility, nothing has been discussed yet. The limit would be the same for animated and non-animated, though.

We wouldn't approve avatars individually, that'd just be too much work. We've had nearly 2600 registrations between yesterday and today, and if even a 10th of those uploaded avatars that'd still be a full-time job for one of us. No thanks.

There's a balance to be had between freedom of expression and bandwidth annoyance that others feel. It's one reason why the option exists to not so other users' avatars and signatures, to lighten your load. At the same time, no, we don't want to stress out people's bandwidth if they do want to see people's avatars; this forum is supposed to be pleasant to visit. It's a fine-line to draw.

I don't think we'll ever prohibit .GIFs, but I can't rule out limiting the avatar size, even for linked pics. It's something to look into.

It is normal. Patience is a virtue. :smile.gif:

It really won't be long. There are only 4 videos in the queue ATM. I'd do them myself, but YouTube is blocked from this computer.
