The max height is set at 100px. I'm not sure what difference 5-10 more pixels would make. As I said here, I have yet to hear good and valid reasons why the current limits are insufficient.

Well, I really only know what I've been continually told by citric, WebTM, and aera as they've tried to keep this place running for the past two years. And I fully believe them, from what I've seen.

It may be an easy fix, but honestly I don't think they're even looking at easy fixes anymore. We're just trying to keep this place operational until the move.

Because phpBB forums are crap and we're not set up for it. We're moving to IPB forums soon* and it might do it.

But it might not. I don't know, Curse is the company building the site. Resizing images is not hard, can be done with pretty much any imaging or viewing program, and it really is not our responsibility to make sure your avatar fits the limit. Sorry.

    *--"Soon" is a relative term.

Sounds like a cookie issue to me. If your browser can't accept cookies, the site will not remember that you're logged in at all.

This is a Minecraft Discussion forum. Not a "show your avatar/signature" forum. We have a Fan Art section and an Arts and Creativity section if you want to show off your artwork.

My argument has always been that if you can't say or show it in the current limit....it's probably not worth showing anyways.

I've been on forums with a 50x50 limit on avatars and no signature images at all. They work just fine.

I have yet to ever hear a good and VALID argument to raise the limits on signatures and/or avatars. Your e-peen is not our concern.

posted a message on Rename this forum and 'suggestions'
It probably wouldn't matter. The nature of Forum Discussion vs. Minecraft Discussion is apparent to anyone who takes two seconds to look at the thread titles. It probably won't matter at all what we name it, it'll still get errant threads.

I'll admit it might be a little confusing right now, but I fear that adding the word "suggestions" would make it even more so. If anything it should be even simpler, with any word that is duplicated elsewhere removed. Something like "Forum Information." Remove "Discussion," since that's what's confusing people with Minecraft Discussion. But then....that might get confusing with Announcements.

There's a downside to having so many subforums around here, as the more places people have to choose from, the more confusing it gets knowing where to post.

My hope is that the setup in the new forums helps out with keeping the structure understandable.

Avatars are stored locally on the site, so there's no url to follow. Besides all you need to do is Right Click and hit Save Image As and you can save it yourself.

If you're curious as to where they got them you can always PM them and ask them.

It's not that I don't disagree with you, we just don't have a better way at the moment of dealing with that issue. We're not going to apologize for pages of locked threads that shouldn't have been created in the first place, and it's not like we're going to just let them loose until they go away. As much as it'd be easier for the Moderators, and Admins too, it's just not going to happen.

These phpBB forums really have no way to prevent posting without disabling the entire forums, which is counter-productive to being forums. It's why we're here. I suppose we could disable certain forums, but they'd spam other forums....and we could disable individual users, but that'd be like emptying a lake with a thimble....

I wouldn't disagree that a system where newbies need to wait or need approval would be bad, in fact I've discussed such a system myself, to mixed success, but it wasn't built into this software. Our options for how to handle this mess will open up when we move to IPB forums in a few weeks, and we'll look at some new methods then.

Until then, we'll be handling the thread spam and the harsher violations as we always have done: on a case-by-case basis.

Likewise, I think less people would be inclined to start new threads this way.

But they don't care about starting new threads now, and even if there were 10 threads to post in, they still start new threads. Everyone is in such a furor to "OMG I HAVE TO MAKE A THREAD!" that they just don't care. No matter what setup we try, it comes back to the reality: We get spammed back to the Stone Age whenever Notch updates.

Hence, the "scorched earth" closing policy.

They're just threads. If it's closed, move on. It's not like we just killed your puppy.

You guys need to slap some bloody penalties on users who don't follow the rules. The kids will soon learn. Say a day temp posting ban? Seems apropriate enough. Some unsuspecting new users might be punsihed but new users should read rules too.

And also, granted it won't solve the single-thread-o-junk, you could disable new topic posting for Beta - Survival mode and Discussion on update day rather than locking left right and center so the forum is less unsightly. Legitimate new topics will just have to wait a day. There are a few other conseqences but i can't see anything too detrimental to the forums.

This may be an option for the new forums. Currently all Bans prohibit you from even viewing the site, so we don't like to hand them out like candy....unless we need to.
