posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

Thank you, i got this idea from hearing about the new Lantern that is being added, it reminded me about how difficult it is to use dark spaces safely.

posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

Due to how light levels work in Minecraft, we currently can not use dark areas in Survival buildings safely due to hostile mobs spawing. However, this is intended to change that.

The basic idea is to add a radius to all light sources, double the light source’s light radius, which prevents hostile mobs from spawing. What this would mean is that the effective radius of say a Sea Lantern goes from 8 (as even though it has a light level of 14, mobs spawn in light level 7 or less) to 28.

This could revolutionise how light sources are used in building, no longer do we have to litter our builds with torches in an attempt to prevent spawning. We can now use dark areas for ambience without worrying about them spawning mobs. We can use less light source blocks and save on resources.

This would be a lag-free way of reducing hostile mob spawning in player builds as it would not change light levels. It would also not reduce hostile mob spawning in the world in general, only where a light source has been placed down. I realise that this could reduce hostile mobs in the Nether; to combat this, Nether mobs could ignore the ‘no hostile mob spawn’ radius of fire, lava and glowstone. This would allow the player to still build safely in the Nether but without reducing how many hostile mobs spawn.

Edit: To make it clear, the area inside the radius would be marked as non-spawnable for hostile mobs, the same way blocks like glass are considered non-spawnable by the game.

posted a message on Custom Skins For Console Players?

@Ouatcher, That is something i didn't even consider and adds more weight to the scales against custom skins being added. Although, i suppose that this could easily be avoided by adding an option to display custom skins (which would be set to 'off' by default) and including a disclaimer. Yes, although this doesnt get rid of the problem entirely (it just merely hides it and disassociates Microsoft and Mojang from any blame) it does make the idea more viable. If this was coupled with a reporting system for inappropriate skins - where, if you were reported enough times within a certain time frame, you would be unable to use custom skins for a certain length of time - then the sugestion for custom skins becomes even more viable. (Although, this is somewhat undermimed by the amount of effort that would be needed just to get custom skins.)

posted a message on Custom Skins For Console Players?

I love this idea, but there's one huge roadblock standing in the way. Microsoft. If Mojang allows custom skins, then they will start losing money (because why would you buy a skin pack if you can just re-create on of theirs or design your own skin?) which means Microsoft wont allow it. Im not going to go into the in's and out's of it all, but in simple terms, Microsoft doesnt care too much about what Mojang does so long as it doesnt hurt Microsofts rep and brings in a net profit. Basically, in order for custom skins to be implemented, they would have to cost quite a bit. Most likely, they would only be available if you bought a PS Plus or Xbox Live membership and even then they would cost a pretty penny.

posted a message on Armour stands with arms in survival mode

i like the idea of this, it would allow non-PC or survival plauers to use armour stands with arms to display more than just armour. The crafting recipe is very simplistic and realistic and the idea has no real down sides. I support this idea : )

posted a message on Attaching Leads Between Fences - Decoration

@r543 To avoid over-complicating things, like i said in my post, the only way the leads could detach is if you either broke the lead or the fence it was attached to was destroyed. There doesnt need to be a new item introduced when it isn't needed nor wanted. The original idea however is just a very minor tweak which would remove code that prevented leads being placed on fences (without a mob) and allowing them to then attach to a second fence. Im not too keen on placing them on cobblestone walls as it would require Mojang to invest a lot more time creating textures and re-coding and this, that and the other. The original idea however just uses already in-game assets like the textures, sounds, particle effects and even the vast majority of the coding, just with the restriction removed. Anyway, thank you for your suggestion but it is just over-complicating things when they dont need to be; the idea was for this to be very simple and very easy to do but would have a drastic effect on decorating.

@r543 Thank you for your suggestion but i think having a brand new item which is just to connect from one fence to the other is a bit much. I was unaware that leads detached if they were shot by an arrow but i dont see this as being a problem, the only time a skeleton could potentially hit a lead is if you were hiding behind the fence. That would mean you would just pick it up anyway so, while it may be inconvinient, it is easily resolved. I dont see a huge problem with them being attached to cobble walls, they would need a new (or at least modified) texture though.

@DuhDerp, Yes, exactly like that : ). That actually is what i was thinking of when i wrote 'suspension bridges' (though for some reason i thought it was called the Brooklyn Bridge :P). For reference for other users, here is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

posted a message on Attaching Leads Between Fences - Decoration

Thank you for your support : ). I would argue that they wouldn't be all that expensive considering you get two leads for every slime ball (as a side note, if you wanted a lot of slime, you could go to a swamp biome under a full moon as slimes spawn more frequently then but they dont spawn under a new moon). Additionally, even though this could be done easily in a survival world, the idea is geared more towards creative to allow builds to be more detailed. It also gives a non-redstone reason to collect a lot of slimeballs - and thusly making people want to explore to find a swamp.

posted a message on Attaching Leads Between Fences - Decoration

Thank you for your support : ). I was unaware that leads between animals and fences detached after a while, i suspect that this may be either due to a bug or the mob breaking the lead somehow. In any case, it would not detach unless you broke it at either fence post, i will edit the post just to highlight this.

posted a message on Attaching Leads Between Fences - Decoration

The idea is very simple, it would allow for leads to be tied to two fences rather than a fence and an animal. This would allow for a rope-like effect which could be very useful for builders. It would be very useful for rope, suspension and draw bridges; telephone wires, electrical cables; rigging on a ship, decorative rope swings, the list goes on and on. This would be a purely decorative feature so no balancing issue would arise. Additionally, due to being quite simple, it shouldn't require much coding.

As a side note, the rope between posts would not act as any kind of barrier, it is just for aesthetic purposes. There are also no real limitations on distance and the rope between fences would pass through any block, again due to being just for aesthetics. Edit: The only way leads could detach from their posts is if a player detached the lead or if one of the fence posts were destroyed.

posted a message on Plz NOTCH Plz

Firstly, Notch doesnt work on Minecraft anymore, he sold all his shares of Mojang to Microsoft. This means that firstly Microsoft could dictate what does and doesnt go into Minecraft (although they dont because as long as Mojang keeps making them a profit, they dont care too much about what goes into the game). Microsoft also provides funding for the Mojang team which allows them to create better things for the game which, under Notch's somewhat narrow-minded view, wouldn't have otherwise made it into the game.

Now, about your thread, this idea firstly seems more like a wishlist rather than an actual suggestion. Secondly, there was already a post which contained the idea of furniture. Many people didn't like the idea as it had no practical purpose and it would make other types of decoration look under-detailed by comparrison. Furthermore, this would require a lot of coding which could be seen as a waste of time as the majority of players wouldnt use this fuction. If you want the ability to sit down, there are a ton of free furniture mods to download with chairs and tables you could actually use.

Im sorry for sounding harsh but i cant support this idea.

posted a message on Double slabs with two slab types

This has been an idea that people have wanted probably since slabs were first implemented but, due to Notch not liking the idea, it didnt go through (because at the time Notch held more than half the company shares so he always had the final say). Now though, without Notch's somewhat closed-minded view, Mojang will hopefully consider it.

im not entirely sure how placing redstone or torches on bottom slabs would work (though it would be nice if it did work) because all i can think of is them floating above the block. But, as i like the concept of this ( though i dont know what any of that coding means) im going to say i support this idea : )

posted a message on Placing slimeballs on block faces

Thank you for your support : ). I got the idea partially from Mumbo Jumbo's hidden bookcase door, in the video, he creates a fairly large contraption just to be able to slide both blocks to the side. If this was implemented, that could be done just using slimeballs and a double piston extender. Im not sure how layering the textures would work, but if it works, im happy :P. It also wouldnt have to waste block id's as it could just use the Slimeball id as its parent id (similar to how each wool colour is numbered rather than giving them their own id's).

posted a message on Advance Crafting Table

If you wanted a better crafting interface, the console verison supprisingly has a really good one for banners and fireworks. You just select what you want rather than having to memorise everything and the interface does it for you. You could just have a clickable tab on the side of the UI which changes it between standard, banner or fireworks crafting. But who needs bigger crafting interfaces, theres aready mods which have giant crafting interfaces for high leveled items.

    Sadly, no support.
