posted a message on Adjacent Coral Doesn’t Die

As of right now, it is highly impractical to build with Coral as it has to directly be in contact with water.

The idea is to have Coral blocks check if they are connected to other Coral blocks which are touching water. This could chain up to 6 blocks.

To clarify, if i have one coral that is directly touching water, i could attach 5 more coral blocks in any direction and they would still survive. This would drastically increase the versatility of Coral for use in building and decorating outside of the oceans.

In terms of coding, this could work similar to how Scaffolding works in the recent Snap Shots we’ve seen.

    Quote from CannonFoddr»

    Bones/Netherbones in the Nether: +1

More Netherfortresses: -1.. some seeds tend to have quite a few netherfortress close together.. IF there were different structures like the netherboats (see below) , with maybe a Nether dock on edge of lava lake then it's a possibility

Lava Ships: unsure - if you mean similar to end ships but made of netherbricks, located in middle of large lava lake, with loot chests then +1.. if you mean the ability of using 'boats' on lava to move around then: -1

More bosses: Depends.. I'd would prefer more hostile mobs like a 'spectre' - a semi transparent mobs that 'float' around the nether, not restricted to netherfortresses though - maybe wandering around nether like pigmen, but will occasionally 'float' up ~4-5 block above ground & maybe even over the edges of lava pools - but not as high like ghasts

    Trees in the Nether: -1

I think they were reffering to Ships similar to the End Ships or Ship Wrecks.

I agree that more Nether Fortresses would be a bad idea, it would be too samey and wouldn’t add anything we haven’t seen before. That would be like instead of adding corals and sea life to our oceans, we just added more Ocean Temples.

I have mixed opinions about trees. I don’t think specifically /trees/ would work in the Nether. However, tree-like structures could work well. The reason being that wood, even fire resistant wood, feels out of place in the Nether.

Although, giant Nether Wart Mushrooms might work. (grown with 2x2 Nether Wart as the plant has a relatively bulky stem in-game). I would also like to see other plants, namely the Wither Rose that is coming in the next update, spawn naturally in the Nether.

posted a message on New Mail Man Villager ::: Send correspondence and gifts! Operate a mail-order store! Buy and exchange stuff between the players!

    Sycheslav i said:

“In order to prevent theft of valuables, enderchest colour combinations could be set to Owned. This would mean that the Owner can Hide the inventory so other players can not see what i have inside it, prevent other players from taking items and/or prevent other players from adding items.”

The emphasis here is on the ‘and/or’ meaning you can choose which of the three options you want to turn on or off. I can see how that could be looked over. Essentially the owner could prevent other players from taking things, only adding them, perfect for a mailbox system.

Anyway, i would doubt that there are thousands of players on a single survival server. Perhaps on game servers but not standard survival. If they were on game servers, it would be a case of not allowing players to own Enderchests if they were needed for games. However, if it were /really/ that necessary, you could have 4 bits of wool in the combination. Although, this could cause significantly more lag as the total number of inventories would go from 4096 to 65,536.

posted a message on Giant Bones in the Nether

The idea is to have structures made out of Bone Blocks in the Nether, similar to how you can find fossils underground in the Overworld.

Some of the Bones would look like the Fossils in the overworld but you could also find variants that look like oversized ribs protruding out of the ground. The Bones would be fairly commonly found, far more so than in the Overworld.

This would add to the Hellish Underworld aesthetic that the Nether has already and increase a player’s desire to go there (as a means of collecting a significant amount of bonemeal quickly). There could also be versions made out of Blocks of Coal instead of bone to represent the Wither Skeleton bones.

Edit: In a similar vein of adding structures to the Nether, Giant Nether Wart could also be found naturally. This would be made out of the existing Nether Wart Blocks found in the game.

posted a message on New Mail Man Villager ::: Send correspondence and gifts! Operate a mail-order store! Buy and exchange stuff between the players!

What about having a system like the Ender Storage mod in which there are Enderchest inventories anyone can access?

For anyone not familiar, these Enderchests have three small bits of wool on the top. You can use dye to colour any of the three bits of wool and each combination accesses a different storage. There are a total of 4096 ender inventories (16 dyes, 16x16x16=4096).

You could use this system as a mail box as a players could establish what colour combination their mailing enderchest will be. So if i want to send another player items, i would need to know what colour combination their enderchest is. If i know it is green-green-green, i can dye any enderchest to access this inventory and place the items inside.

In order to prevent theft of valuables, enderchest colour combinations could be set to Owned. This would mean that the Owner can Hide the inventory so other players can not see what i have inside it, prevent other players from taking items and/or prevent other players from adding items.

To stop one player monopolising all the enderchest combinations and locking them all, each player could only set 10 combinations to Owned. Any unowned enderchest combinations can be accessed even if a player Owns 10 already (however, the option to Own the enderchest would be greyed out for that player).

This could also be useful for single player as now you potentially have access to over 4000 inventories to store your stuff when you’re mining.

posted a message on Blocks Inside Snow Layers and Carpets

A very simple idea, non-solid blocks, such as fences, can occupy the same space as carpets and snow layers.

The very slight change would allow for a drastic improvement in building in snowy biomes or using carpets in builds. The way it would work is by, when you placed a block on a carpet or snow layer, rather than destroying it or floating above it the block is placed on top of the block underneath the carpet or snow layer.

This would mean that fences can easily be built in snowy biomes, flowers can be placed in the snow and patches of tall grass could peak out of the snow without showing the grass block underneath. Carpets could now also have tables and furniture placed on them, you wouldnt need to leave holes in your carpet for chests or beds or doors and decoration can be placed on the floor.

There also exists a huge opportunity for traps and secrets as redstone wires, preasure plates, buttons, trip wires, buttons and rails could be obscured by the carpet or snow layer.

isterian_imperian Yeah, i get what you’re saying, it wouldn’t be extremely useful unless you had a long render distance. I was just giving an idea as to how it could work. Yeah, at that point you might as well just use optifine if you can. It would be about as useful as optifine’s zoom so take that for what you will. It would be more geared towards the community who do not, or can not, use mods.

posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

@TheMasterCaver Ah i see, i assumed that it would be a relatively simple and lag-less process.

Though, from what you’ve explained to me, it seems like it would be possible to have a light source block that changed the light level in an area (though a far smaller area than i previously stated). Instead though, the light level would be set at 8 constistently thoughout the area rather than decaying the further from the source it was. So the entire area is ‘lit up’, above the level mobs can spawn at, though there would be no visiual indicator for the light.

In this way, the amount of ‘Dark Lights’ are limited and every light source block does not have an increased radius. Would this work in terms of coding and reducing potential lag?

posted a message on We NEED a useless update.

Most of these seem like really cool ideas, i dont see much reason why they shouldn’t be implemented. I really like the idea for Bats, having them roam the night sky and then returning home. I like the idea of eating them for night vision, maybe Bat wings could also be made into leather like Rabbit hide can? The night vision when near them is a bit strange and doesnt make much sense.

Furnace carts, very little problem, i think they have recently increased the duration for coal but im not sure. The major problem i found was they lose a ton of speed when turning but go a long way in a straight line. A simpler way of fueling without player intervention would be to allow it to be filled by hoppers as it passes under them. You could also give it a User Interface that has 5 inventory slots for storing fuel and another slot with a fuel gage next to it where fuel is used (similar to how furnaces show how much longer their fuel will last).

Gold tools, no real problem. I think that current effects should be more potent on them though rather than letting them have more effects. Maybe enchantments on golden equipment are twice as effective?

Pigs need a buff, though your buff seems pretty useless. How often is the average player going to ride around the nether on anything, let alone a pig? And with a sudden buff to speed near pigmen, i can see a lot of players speeding off the edges of cliffs into lava. Instead, perhaps ‘using’ the carrot on a stick gives a speed boost at the cost of durability? That way its more consitent and useful so, if you want to get a short distance rapidly, use a pig.

For Polar Bears and Rabbits, maybe instead of full suits of armour, you only have part of them like with the Turtle Helmet (which gives water breathing)? So Polar Bear Fur could be made into a fur coat (which would give a strength boost) and Rabbit Hide could be made into Rabbit hide boots (for a jump boost). Polar bear fur could also be crafted to make 4 leather.

I like the alarm clock, it seems really useful. Hopefully it also looks like a clock so it can be used as decoration.

    posted a message on Telescope

Well what about using something similar to Optifine’s zoom? Basically when you used the telescope, it zooms in and allows you to see anything in already loaded chunks, it would not require chunks to be loaded and unloaded as you looked at them as you can only see what is in your render distance.

In order to achieve OP’s idea for this, when you zoomed in it would force the player into first-person and add a screen effect similar to when a player puts a pumpkin on their head. The only difference being the shape is a ‘circle’ shape (a circle made out of squares, as per Minecraft’s style).

The Telescope could be used in the main hand or off-hand (so you could use a bow or crossbow whilst holding it. The disadvantage is you cant see what is right next to you). You can still move whilst using it but you are slowed down significantly. You can also use it whilst in a boat, minecart, riding an animal or while using an elytra without being slowed down.

You could also have Tripods which function similarly to Armour Stands except they only will accept telescopes. To use the telescope, left click on the tripod. To remove the telecope, left click whilst sneaking.

The main uses of Telescopes are, of course, seeing long distances (assuming you have the chunks loaded in your render distance). However, if they can be used in conjunction with ranged weapons, they would primarily be used to help aim at distant targets, such as other players. Or simply to spy on them from afar. I can also see the mounted version as being used as decoration in libraries, studies, observatories, pirate ships, guard towers or anywhere else that could be a lookout point. They could also be used in Adventure maps or PvP maps quite effectively.

posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

@TheMasterCaver Now i don’t know how to write code so forgive me for using layman’s terms. Could there not simply be a code that states ‘set block property spawnable false’ on all blocks in the radius? Or essentially ‘set light level 14’ on a block (though there would not actually be any visible light to avoid lighting updates). Either of these would prevent hostile mobs spawning and, if the block property can be changed, surely this would mean there is very little lag?

posted a message on Autumn Biome (AKA Dead Biome)

An Autumn biome seems like a good idea, all you would need to do is change the textures of the grass and leaves, like in any other biome.

I like the idea of witch huts generating there, i like the creepy jack-o-lantern on a fence post, i like the pumpkins and mushrooms spawning there.

The ‘hallowed’ is a retextured, renamed husk. Nothing wrong with that per say but it’s already been done. The pumpkin head skeletons are okay but would be annoying. However, what about a headless horseman as a neutral mob? A pumpkin-headed skeleton on a horse that roamed about at night. It would use a sword and deal damage similar to a Wither Skeleton if provoked. It would only spawn rarely, attacking it or other skeletons would provoke it.

Maybe there could be an extremely rare chance to see a certain Minecraft Myth spawn? If under a full moon in a forrest, perhaps you will see a pair of pure white eyes staring at you in the distance. Herobrine? Or just your mind playing tricks on you?...

posted a message on Lightning Rod suggestion applies directly to the Villager update

This seems like an interesting idea, im not sure how needed it would be though. I would assume that the new Villager AI would detect when the weather changes to Lightning Storm and have all villagers return to their homes. Though i do like the idea of having lighting rods to use as traps.

posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

@Kris_Eike That is an idea i’ve heard thrown about before but that would mean having to have these ghastly beams of light everywhere i wanted to use dark spaces. The whole idea would be to create an ambiance, a huge beam of light would ruin that. It could be useful if beacons didn’t need sky access but it would still be a clunky way of doing it.

posted a message on Using Dark Areas in Survival Building

@TheMasterCaver It would simply state that the blocks in that radius are non-spawnable, so when the game attempted to spawn mobs in a chunk, it would read any blocks in that area as non-spawnable for hostile mobs, much in the same way glass is non-spawnable.
