    I just tried that and it doesn't work. Which is a shame, I was hoping it was that easy.

    I've got the Technic Pack for 1.7.3 installed. Everything seems to be working fine, except for the waterproof pipes. See, I can't get the 'waterproofing' item from cactus green. As far as I can tell, the recipe is simply one Cactus Green in the center of the crafting grid... except that doesn't work. None of the slots do, I tried moving it around. I've searched online for help, these forums, and the only thing I found was to reinstall Minecraft, the Pack, and everything... which I did, but the problem still isn't solved. Anyone else have this problem?

    (Also, my ISP has blocked Mediafire, so I can't get the latest version of the Technic Pack. Anyone know a mirror site?)

    So, I'm not sure why, but apparently I fail at applying mods. Whenever I apply a mod according to its instructions, Minecraft will open just fine- until I log in, at which point it gives me a black screen that doesn't go away. It doesn't matter what mod, it seems- I've tried BuildCraft, IC2, heck, even MCForge does this.

    My process is:
    find minecraft.jar in \appdata\roaming\.minecraft\bin
    Open using WinRAR
    Copy all files from whatever mod I'm trying to apply to the .jar
    (Edit, forgot this step, but I did do it) Delete META-inf
    Fail


    Any help? I've searched, and either I suck or this isn't a common problem.

    I found Minecraft... way back in the day. A few weeks before I made this forum account, actually, right after it had been reviewed on Jayisgames.com.

    Actually, now that I think about it, I remember I joined two days before colored blocks were added to Creative (the only mode available at the time).

    Right. They'd both work almost exactly the same way, except their power would extend much farther from them than a lever/torch/whatever. One idea that comes immediately to my mind from these things is more compact "computers"- right now they're mindbogglingly large and complex due to the small distance power actually travels. If that distance were increased, they'd be more practical and common, which is cool for people who like that stuff. And I'm sure more circuitry-inclined people can think of more uses.

    And for people who don't like circuits, nothing changes. They get to keep their current uses of redstone with no added complexity.

    This has been said several times, but I'll say it again (and I'll even bold it so people will notice it as they scroll down):

    This will not replace or change levers, torches, or any items we currently have. This will only add new options.

    Also, I realize there's a coding limitation, but surely it's not an insurmountable one. Mojang's people are pretty smart, yeah?

This is impractical in minecraft for obvious reasons and redstone's "magic" should be left alone because it simulates real electronic logic without the trouble of powering ever single torch from a generator. They act like real electronics for the most part anyway.

    Ah. I didn't know that about AND and NAND gates. I mentioned I'm not circuitry-minded, right? :smile.gif:

    And I don't propose doing anything to current Redstone torches. They will be left alone. Under my idea, however, there will be alternative sources of power with different pros and cons to them.

    So we all know that our current redstone wire contraptions work mostly on magic. Torches provide infinite power, somehow, and can be turned on and off. This is fine to a point...

    Earlier, I was reading a topic on train systems using pistons to transport massive amounts of material. Cool, right? Less practical than minecarts for transporting people, but I can see a use for mass transport of goods. Also, it's really cool. The only problem is, since our electricity system is relatively underdeveloped (it comes from nothing, it's slow, there are no transistors, capacitors, etc.) it's ridiculously impractical to use.

    This got me thinking. I propose the introduction of a new block and a couple new mechanics. I admit my ideas may be flawed, but hear me out, please.

    The New Block: A Battery. Possibly made of a gold shell with iron and a slimeball in it? (Reasonably close to accurate for simple batteries, at least...) These batteries hold an amount of charge, maybe an hour or two's worth (regardless to what they're hooked up to- this is minecraft after all), and work similar to an RTorch, but they power all blocks around them, even diagonally (unlike RTorches), and have their power extend down the lines maybe twice or three times as far. I'm not circuitry- minded, exactly, but the addition of this block would likely open up a whole new realm of possibilities to our computational colleagues.

    Of course, there is the problem of charging said battery, isn't there? That's solved by allowing furnaces to generate electricity... or maybe making a new item there, as well. A steam-powered turbine, running on coal! Hooking a Battery up to a Generator will charge it after a few minutes, and allow you to take it where you please. Of course, the Generator could just hook directly into the grid, too, and power an area four or five times as much as our friend the RTorch. Why use the batteries, then? The Generator burns fuel- quite fast, too, I'd imagine.

    Ideally, we'd break the laws of physics and make batteries more efficient as far as fuel cost (say to charge one up it takes 30 Coal and it lasts for an hour, whereas running that generator for an hour takes 300 coal), but Generators allow more things to be powered, as their powered lines don't stop after only 15 blocks, but maybe even up to 100.

    I believe that the addition of these blocks would open up more options to people who love playing with Redstone wire while taking nothing from people who use it sparingly or not at all. I realize the chances of Notch seeing this post are slim to none, but as long as there is a chance, I thought I'd share. (Or, failing that, maybe a modder will read this? That'd be cool too.)

    Of course, the problem we're running into here is we're trying to design an electric train without any kind of electronics, or transistors, or batteries, or anything. Also the electricity is slow.

    Actually, Notch adding batteries into the game would make this a lot easier...

    I've got a beef with Herobrine. Let's start with my claim that I once managed to get Herobrine to agree that he gives his most banal statements an appearance of profundity by utilizing polysyllabic words such as "ultraphotomicrograph" and "conventionalization". Unfortunately, a few minutes later, he did a volte-face and denied that he had ever said that. He claims that a book of his writings would be a good addition to the Bible. You should realize that absolutely no empirical evidence obtained by scientific means exists to support that claim. Alas, that doesn't stop Herobrine from promulgating partisan prejudice against others.

    If you ever ask Herobrine to do something, you can bet that your request will get lost in the shuffle, unaddressed, ignored, and rebuffed. Am I angry? You bet. We find among narrow and uneducated minds the belief that the rest of us are an inferior group of people, fit only to be enslaved, beaten, and butchered at the whim of our betters. This belief is due to a basic confusion that can be cleared up simply by stating that Herobrine plans to conduct business in a salacious, noisome way. What can you do about that? Start by reading about how Herobrine's gang (motto: "Promote a culture of dependency and failure") is as insidious as insidious can be. Become informed about the deceit, lies, and propaganda surrounding his promotion of extremism. Tell everyone you know that Herobrine wants to prohibit any discussion of her attempts to institutionalize sex discrimination by requiring different standards of protection and behavior for men and women. While it is clear why he wants that to be a taboo subject, if I didn't sincerely believe that Herobrine has no right to be here, then I wouldn't be writing this letter.

    Be honest; can you in any way believe Herobrine's claim that he is cunctipotent? I unmistakably cannot, mainly because his oligophrenic spokesmen are nothing more than subservient blobs of easily controlled protoplasm. That's why they're so willing to help Herobrine view countries and the people that live in them either as economic targets to be exploited or as military targets to be defeated. While he's hopeful, even enthusiastic, about officialism becoming commonplace, I find myself experiencing profound doubts about its benefits. More precisely, the devastating ramifications of widespread officialism make me wonder if it isn't simply the case that it's considerations of this sort that make it worth our while to learn about the effrontive things Herobrine is up to. Am I aware of how Herobrine will react when he reads that last sentence? Yes. Do I care? No, because I normally prefer to listen than to speak. I would, however, like to remind Herobrine that if you can make any sense out his cranky, irritable adages then you must have gotten higher marks in school than I did. Until we address this issue, we will never move beyond it.

    What would I do without Herobrine to provide me with a nonstop source of chauvinistic contrivances to complain about? What follows is a series of remarks addressed to the readers of this letter and to Herobrine himself. I recently overheard a couple of patronizing demoniacs say that we should avoid personal responsibility. Here, again, we encounter the blurred thinking that is characteristic of this Herobrine-induced era of slogans and propaganda.

    Again, you'd think that someone would have done something by now to thwart Herobrine's plans to bury our heritage, our traditions, and our culture. Unfortunately, most people are quite happy to "go along to get along" and are rather reluctant to take a proactive, rather than a reactive, stance. It is imperative that we inform such people that mankind needs to do more to denounce those who claim that Herobrine can make all of our problems go away merely by sprinkling some sort of magic, pink, pixie dust over everything that he considers violent or hectoring. Understand, I am not condemning mankind for not doing enough; I am merely stating that in a recent tell-all, a former member of Herobrine's coterie writes that "Herobrine is never without an uncongenial thing to say". Those are some pretty harsh words even when one considers that Herobrine is addicted to the feeling of power, to the idea of controlling people. Sadly, he has no real concern for the welfare or the destiny of the people he desires to lead.

    Herobrine has been doing "in-depth research" (whatever he thinks that means) to prove that individual worth is defined by race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. I should mention that I've been doing some research of my own. So far, I've "discovered" that Herobrine's camp is an open-door asylum for rebarbative-to-the-core witlings. Let me try to explain what I mean by that in a single sentence: Honest people will admit that Herobrine has been striving to create an environment in which the bright rays of sunshine fall warmly on him but are blocked by a shadow of cynicism from ever reaching anyone else. Concerned people are not afraid to get people to see through the hollowness, the sham, the silliness of Herobrine's blockish beliefs. And sensible people know that several things Herobrine has said have brought me to the boiling point. The statement of his that made the strongest impression on me, however, was something to the effect of how people don't mind having their communities turned into war zones.

    Charlatanism is not merely an attack on our moral fiber. It is also a politically motivated attack on knowledge. What we're seeing is a domino effect of events that started with Herobrine stating that his strictures can give us deeper insights into the nature of reality. That prevarication incited his encomiasts to peddle the snake oil of sick serfism. Sordid warmongers reacted, in turn, by making it impossible to disturb Herobrine's mendacious, two-faced gravy train. The next domino to fall, not surprisingly, was a widespread increase in scapegoatism, and that's the event that galvanized me to tell everyone that Herobrine will probably throw another hissy fit if we don't let him desecrate personal religious objects. At least putting up with another Herobrine hissy fit is easier than convincing Herobrine's flunkies that Herobrine uses the word "contradistinctive" to justify destroying the values, methods, and goals of traditional humanistic study. In doing so, he is reversing the meaning of that word as a means of disguising the fact that he says that he knows the "right" way to read Plato, Maimonides, and Machiavelli. What balderdash! What impudence! What treachery!

    Certain facts are clear. For instance, if Herobrine were to torment, harry, and persecute anyone who crosses his path, social upheaval and violence would follow. It is therefore clear that one of Herobrine's trucklers keeps throwing "scientific" studies at me, claiming they prove that clever one-liners are a valid substitute for actual thinking. The studies are full of "if"s, "possibly"s, "maybe"s, and various exceptions and admissions of their limitations. This leaves the studies inconclusive at best and works of fiction at worst. The only thing these studies can possibly prove is that Herobrine's policies cannot stand on their own merit. That's why they're dependent on elaborate artifices and explanatory stories to convince us that Herobrine defends the real needs of the working class. One can predict on empirical grounds that before the year is over Herobrine will subject us to the stentorian yapping of catty, unregenerate braggadocios. And that's why I say to you: Have courage. Be honest. And move as expeditiously as possible to criticize the obvious incongruities presented by Herobrine and his helots. That's the patriotic thing to do, and that's the right thing to do.

    You know how using a portal creates a portal in the opposite realm? My idea is to make more than just a portal appear.

    Say you use a portal in the Light World to get to the Nether. Currently, the game finds a nearby suitable spot and plops it down. Great. If we use my idea, not only would the game create a corresponding portal, it would also turn the ground block in a 6x6 area (or something, just an idea) into Grass or Cobblestone or something clearly not hellish around the portal in the Nether. And upon your return, it turns the same area around your portal in the Light World to hellstone (or whatever it's called).

    This wouldn't really affect gameplay much, but it would be cool. Like the barrier between realms is eroding around the portal...

    And yes, this would mean that if you put a portal in your base, your floor would turn into hellstone. Is that such a bad thing? If you do have a problem with it you could just make a special Portal Room or something.
