There are some very good reasons for modders not wanting their mods in modpacks. Firstly some of them miss out on the ad revenue which basically gives them the money to allow them to use the time they make the mod for making their mod rather than focusing on work (e.g. Optifine). Also , they may want to keep track of there mod and know exactly what the community think and have no middle man (modpack authors). And it can be a bit annoying when people don't come to you for your modpack. Also as you pointed out , some modpack authors are horrible and allot of mod devs would rather not deal with them and for some of them saying no to modpacks is the answer to that problem.
Although it is probably just a case of Risk vs Reward and no one can argue against that.
You aren't supposed to make any money off of a mod.
Someone mentioned something on the Thaumcraft Thread that actually seemed like a fantastic idea, that I think the community as a whole should adopt.
this, why can't we build a launcher that does this? We can give it the option to input a download link that it can automatically connect to and download from, Yes, it would bypass Adfly, but it would still count towards your total downloads for Curse. The launcher would still allow you to upload modified config files, so everyone is on the same page, but other than that the actual download of the mod is coming directly from the source.
People who want to make a mod pack would still be able to do so, whilst still easily satisfying the request that all downloads come from the mod creator's page, it's an elegant solution if ever there was one.
That was me, lol. And yes I can make this installer, and make it open source.
I think that the world of minecraft modding is wondrous, and the fact that the minecraft's terms of service allows the modder to copyright the mod immediately. I, however, Hate the fact that most modders are so stingy with their mods, considering that the mod is free.
What I mean is that it should be okay for someone to make a modpack without permission if:
1) The modpack maker provides the modder with the necessary credit
2) links to forum post,
3) and even makes the installer download the mod from the modders site
This is a game of community, and yet the modders are so restrictive of what they allow people to do, the modpack isn't infringing on the modder's rights if the guidelines are well meet. Not to mention that even if they distributed the mod, they aren't really hurting the modder or anyone else. Most mods have the creidt of who made it inside the mods code, even in the modinfo, thus on the mods screen.
All I'm trying to say is that it is time for people to grow up and stop this childish "Its my mod, don't put it in a modpack".

Hey guys, this is an update to a mod originally by v3XzZ. I was on the mod dev team for it, and he has become inactive for some time now, so I asked around and got some help updating this to 1.6.4, I'll be updating from here on with help from master801.
If and when v3XzZ comes back, and he asks me to, I'll take this down.
Leanardoe - Current mod developer
master801 - Source code and update to 1.6.4 help
v3XzZ - Original mod developer
Lordplantitas - for awesome texture sprites
J0hnnzZ - for some older texture sprites and ideas and a lot of help
OriginalElfkin - for a HD texture(not done yet)
Bloo1234 and Honeybee99 - for lot of work on the wiki
Plans:
Update to 1.7.X
Add new blocks and items
Revision of a lot of textures.
Fix all sound bugs
Modify drop rates
Fix not having a height limit on bugs
Remove redundant features
Maybe - integrate with other mods
(Bare with me guys I'm new to modding, but then again I'm not new to java so we'll see.)
One of the mods I used to play hasn't been updated for several versions, and I've been learning java for a few weeks, so I was thinking of updateing the mod myself. Except that I don't have the source code for it.
How can I extract the source code from a modification?

1) Make an installer that downloads the mod form the modder's site
2)The installer provides credit
and 3) The modpack maker doesn't take credit for the mod

No, it wouldn't, because he would have to add support for modloader.
