posted a message on Lava Mountain Survival!
I love how this thread is directly above the "LAVA SUCKS!" thread. Appropriate.

Anyways, looks cool. Next time, though, post it in the Maps section. I may try it later, but that'd have to be after I finish Vechs' Nether-based map (I believe it's called Infernal Skys or something like that).

posted a message on My creation that I made in Survival. (A huge mansion)
    Quote from jimmythehun

The total area taken up by New York City is 468.48 sq mi. Assuming each block is 1 metre squared you'd have to place 753,945 blocks. In one seconed you can roughly place three blocks. This means it would take 251,315 seconds to place that many blocks, which equals 4,189 minutes which equals 69 hours to plan out the area. Building every building would roughly take the same time. So it would roughly take 5.75 days to build, and that's on your own if he had help it could take half the time. It is possible, so anyone who says it isn't shut up!

Ahh, but you forgot, the buildings are 3D, while the area in square miles (as a Canadian, the American mathematical system for measurement isn't my forte, but this is easy enough to understand by comparing to Metric) is 2D. Not to mention that it's pretty hard to do the following in Survival:

    1. Get all the blocks required for NYC legit.
    2. Build all the stuctures to scale.
    3. Find away to spend about 80% of the week not sleeping, eating, using the bathroom, working, etc.

Also, some of the NYC buildings exceed 256 meters/840 feet, AKA the height limit of Minecraft if you hollow out the world and get EXTREMELY lucky with Bedrock placement. So it's technically, logically and virtually impossible. Hence, aidanlaurence is a dumb, lieing troll. I rest my case.

Mining 1x1 tunnels at the level of bedrock.
I find a lot of ores and diamons and emeralds.

1x1? The player is 2x1. How do you fit through it? Do you have mods that let you reduce yourself to half the size (like Gulliver)?

posted a message on do you think Jeb is Focusing on aesthetics to much in updates?
    Quote from ordinaryman

The more Jeb ignores this stuff, the closer I get to a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and since the game is marketed and sold worldwide, also the Federal Trade Commission. The continued unconcern for product quality and the total lack of both tech support and Account support are major issues that Jeb, as leader of the Minecraft project, should be seriously concerned with.

...You DO realise that the BBB and FTC don't cover virtual media/fully virtual/digital rights, and even if they did, Dinnerbone is working on fixing them as a priority, so "unconcern" is technically false. It's just that he can't really fix them at the moment, and is currently unable to do so but still trying. That's like saying that, because I can't cook ice cream, I'm not allowed to be a chef (like I would ever want to, but still). EDIT: Not to mention that such a big, popular game with 7mil+ accounts would kind of spark the attention of the FTC or BBB already if it DID violate the law.

Anyways, on topic, NO. Have you seen the 3 new regular mobs, the new Generated Structure, the more convinient Superflat settings, the Item Frames (designed for storage rooms), or the extra Wither? Plus, there's new Pots, new foods, etc. I think that they may even have been focussing a little bit too little on older updates, so this is welcome, by any case. All they need is a new Redstone-based item and new Fences/Walls (like the Cobble/Mossy Cobble Walls/Fences/whatever they're called), maybe one for Smoothstone, Stone Brick, Brick, Wood (well, we do have fences, so probably not, but...), Nether Brick (and yes, I know they come in fences) (better-looking Nether Fortresses would be cool!), Sandstone and
a few other blocks would be cool.

posted a message on Passive Mob Spawning?
    Quote from CommenceGaming

They only spawn when chunks are generated, with the exception of wolves I believe.

Along with Ocelots, Villagers (through villager breeding), Iron Golems (village spawns) and anything passive built by the player (Snow/Iron Golems).

But, if you're playing on a pre-1.8/Xbox version, then they'll only spawn with a light level of about 9+, only on Grass (with the exception of Mooshrooms, which only spawn on Mycelium in MushroomIsland or MushroomIslandShore biomes, but they were only added in 1.9 prerelease... I think 6, if I recall correctly? Can't remember).

posted a message on Question about the Auto-Stacking of Items
It was actually changed in 1.3.

Also, Youtuber Etho tested this in his LP, and no. For example:
The despawn timer for item 1 is at 3 minutes left. The timer for item two, meanwhile, is at the full 5 minutes (a mob was just killed in a mob trap). The item-transporting water streams have a dry spot, and item 1 has been in it for 2 minutes, which means its despawn timer is at 3 minutes. Item 2 comes in, merges, and the despawn timer for item 1- the "origin" item for the group- is at 3 minutes still. The despawn timer for item 2 changes to the despawn timer of the group- AKA, item 1. So, the group it technically the same as item 1, until it's picked up, it despawns, etc.

posted a message on Why aren't my mushrooms spreading?
Hmm... To my knowledge, this should work. I mean, there's a limited amount of one type of mushroom allowed in 1 area. However, the amount of mushrooms there is fine. It's Mycelium, and the light level's right. Mushroom spreading was nerfed, but it should of spread at least once. Although, why not just bonemeal the mushrooms? Chop the giant mushroom down with an axe- much more mushrooms, much faster.

posted a message on What was your FIRST reaction to Minecaft?
    Story time!

My friend bought me an account as a gift a while ago. This was in InDev, and he was fasinated by the game. I wasn't the same. I barely ever played it. So, my first reaction: "Meh. Why does he like this game so much?" Then, when Alpha came out, I finally found my purpose: Redstone, mob traps, complex building projects. I probably played for 35 hours in the week 1.8 came out.

posted a message on Surface slimes on default world?
    Quote from ghost_warlock

Great, so now instead of lily pads wrecking our boats it'll be slimes.

Actually...that sounds kinda awesome. :P We need hostile aquatic mobs.

Unfortunately, slimes don't float, and drown in 3 or 4 blocks deep water.
To my knowledge, they'll spawn in ANY light, but only at night, and not on half-slabs or anything like that.
Kind of good, but if you want to build a mob trap in a swamp (like Youtuber Etho built), you'll need to half-slab the swamp to get your rates back to normal. Meh. I like the change, but it comes with consiquesnses (Firefox' spell check didn't kick in- does that mean I spelled it correct? lol).

posted a message on Village Mechanics: A not-so-brief guide
    Quote from IronMagus

I missed nothing. At least, not in relation to that. I didn't write it, because that's not a thing. I don't know where you're getting this, as that's not even one of the ones that I've heard before. -snip-

I've heard it a few times, from the wiki to famous Redstoners (both Etho and Docm77 mentioned it in their Youtube vids once or twice), and everywhere in between, plus my expiriments said so. However, looking over this topic again, I've noticed that the reason was because the door outside of sunlight technically didn't count. So, I was wrong, you're right. Sorry.
    Quote from IronMagus

No, that's not it. I mean, that one might be a thing, but it's not what was going on here. The problem was not that the villagers were only using one of two valid houses. The problem was that neither of those doors should have counted as houses, but the villagers were still seeing at least one of them as. The reason for that, we have determined, is that during construction one of them actually did count as a house, briefly, and since he had finished construction the game had not yet re-evaluated and found that it wasn't supposed to be one any longer. After destroying and replacing the doors, they were re-evaluated and found not to be houses, as they should not be since they don't meet the criteria.

Hmm. I get it now. Yes, I agree, this is strange. I suppose it must be a block update glitch. My theory, similair to yours: Until the door was updated (in this case, replaced), it kept saying to the game code, "Yes, I am valid," until updated. Again, sorry. :(

The end of super hostile: waking up. I'm not called a veteran for nothing.

Oh, man, I HATED that area! Give the Ghasts more health, Blazes a regen buff, and add about 50 Cave Spider spawners and I'd ragequit just from hearing the Ghasts! It was like... Like the Hardcore edition of Boomer Castle's end!

Now I'm watching Vechs do a dev commentary on it on his Youtube channel, Vechz. Can't wait 'till he gets... THERE.

Knocked a Creeper into cave during night. Creeper exploded. Knowing there was a Spider behind me, walked in to the cave to examine damage. Realised it led into a Ravine, which I hadn't known before. Knew Spider would knock me in. Swung around. Hit Spider. Hitting Spider gave Skeleton I hadn't noticed clear shot for me. Skeleton shot me, knocking me into Ravine while I had no armour whatsoever. Spider's lack of AI told him to hop down Ravine to get to me. Spider hit me in mid-air while I was about to hit lava. Believe it or not, this was a blessing. It pushed me directly into a waterfall, where I floated softly down while Spider burned to death in lava. Survived with half of my health left and a near heart attack.
