Dude... I was taking a look at the past Emerald use suggestions and I noticed you are full of hate for those suggestions thinking Emeralds are solely for currency. Seriously... It is actually better if an item has more than one use than just creating an entire
Except for the fact that they all say that emeralds should be used as tools. Which is wrong in two ways. 1. Jeb has already said they are not going to add any new triers to the tool/ armor trees.2. Jeb has also said that emeralds will only be used as a currency. They were added for that purpose alone.
1. What if it is not a new tier, but rather just an invisible layer like in my suggestion?2. What if he said he never will add it because he never thought of your way of doing it?We are all the same. We cant always think of the best possible solutions to everything. That is why there is a suggestions forum am I right?
No. Currency should be left as currency. End of story. Having multiple uses for a utility material is fine. Emeralds are not utility materials. They were added for the sole purpose of creating a standardized trade system in the game. And as myself and others have said time and again, emeralds are pathetically easy to farm. So giving them a purpose as a utility material would make that purpose laughably cheap. It's the same thing with XP. XP got implemented and all o...
of the sudden every one that had mob farms could just tweak them and make them XP farms and they pretty much had max enchants in an hour. So then they had to 'rebalance' that. Which they did by capping enchants at level thirty, and then making it so that you could get XP from just about any thing. And then the anvil came in and made XP even less valuable. And now the whole system is just a mess. Because they created a system that was easily farmable and essentially made you god. But...
Screwed over every one who didn't use farms for the longest time.An extremely similar situation could happen to emeralds. We will use your thread as example.
Say they implement your idea. Suddenly tons of people start flocking to villages to create emerald farms for it. The value of emeralds is immediately lessened as a currency. Well what about every one that doesn't want to use an emerald farm? People like me who don't like farms like these because they are in fact exploiting game mechanics.Well. In order to counter this Mojang has two choices.
One: Remove the rarity of emerald spawning. Which would pretty much make the trade aspect of the game irrelevant.orTwo: Tell all of the players who don't use farms to 'deal with it'.
Emeralds being used solely for currency was not because they couldn't think of something better to do with it. It was because that is the only thing they are intended for. Because despite what you seem to think Jeb and Dinnerbone are extremely smart people. They didn't just give it a single use because they couldn't think of something better to do with it. They deliberately chose to only use it for currency. Because as I have shown, using an extremely farmable material for utility...
Purposes does not lead to anything good. Just a mess of trying to rebalance a system with out simply removing the system all together. Which takes away from them adding things that are actually good and new to the game or fixing bugs for already existing systems because now they have to fix bugs for the new systems that they added to fix the balance issues of the old ones.
In my Emerald Tool topic, you still need to spend exp on enchanting. Putting Emeralds will just lower your overall stats until you enchant. And plus, the fact that Mojang made exp easy could mean they want people to use Enchanting more. And adding those Emerald on your gear will help in that too.
It would also trivialize the entire mechanic in the same way enchanting has become trivialized by XP farms and the over abundance of XP. Except this would trivialize emeralds and make them worthless as trade items because now every one would just churn out emeralds and XP and dump it all into getting fully enhanced Items. Which is why I said on your thread that it should be some other gem that they add to the game.
