Weird. In 7.1 Max, I remove the // from the Block reflections and get reflections using the LB Photo Realism Pack. It works on iron blocks, btw.

Ok, so this could be a misunderstanding on my part. Would block reflections not affect something like grass and sand texture? I guess I assumed that the specular mapping the ENPacks provided was just one thing, but now I'm thinking it's two - reflections on things that reflect and bump mapping for textures like grass and sand. I only checked grass and sand. Can you check grass and sand and see if there's a difference? Is there something else I need to activate to get my grass and sand textured in Sildurs Shaders like when using SEUS or CUDA shaders? Thanks.

What is the difference between Sildur's Vibrant shaders Pre7.1 and Sildur's Vibrant shaders Pre7.1 max ?

I mean in the not max one I get over 90 fps on "render distance far", graphics fancy, smooth lighting off, performance max fps
particles off, vsnyc off, clouds on in windowed mode....but when I use the max I get 2-5 FPS.Like wtf?

One big difference I noticed was the water. Obviously way better in the max version.

Does 'block reflections'/specular mapping actually work? I see in the changelog that it was broken in Pre7 and fixed in Pre7.1, but I can't get it to work.

I've tried with both Pre7.1 and Pre7.1-max. I took 2 resource packs - LB Photo Realism x256 and Minecraft Enhanced x256 and grabbed their modified counterparts from ENpacks.com which contain the specular mapping textures. When I switch resource packs, there is no difference. I have a couple shaders loaded and have found that SEUS and CUDA work, but chocapic13 WIP10, Mr Meep_x3s and Sildurs Vibrant Pre7.1 don't work.

Of course I edited the composite1.fsh and removed the comments from in front of the #define BLOCK_REFLECTIONS line, just like it says in the OP notes. I even enabled GLOWING_SUN just to make sure my changes were working, and they were. Do I need to do anything else besides the BLOCK_REFLECTIONS line?

I like this shader a lot better than SEUS because torches are too orange, blue flames, things break blue and my clouds look like crap.

    Thanks for your help.

MCP is the "Master Control Program", and it is responsible for deciding which programs can be active on the grid or have to wait in the holding pens.

Rumors that it is a hostile, malicious program, that only has the function and purpose of expanding its own power for no reason other than to expand power are completely unfounded.

Equally, all programs should be aware that the claim of a "user" inside the computer are just silly.

Come on dude, an atom procesor? You can't single out Minecraft as unplayable - every game is unplayable on that. My network storage devices run an atom processor.

Does anyone know if increasing the render distance is a simple case of changing a number in some kind of .ini file or if it's more complicated?

When I googled how to change render distance, all you find are ways to do it on really old versions of Minecraft. When Optifine came out, that became the standard way to do it, so nobody bothered doing it by hand anymore.

Now that the Optifine update for 1.7.2 will take some, understandably, I'm hoping to update the render distance of vanilla Minecraft until Optifine is ready.

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I think that 1.7.1 will offer HUGE performance gains across the board. I have a feeling that OptiFine moving forward will be more of a tweaking tool rather than a render replacement. So, it still may be very useful.

I only really use optifine to set the draw distance and make the water clear. Unless they implement that in vanilla Minecraft, I'll always need Optifine. Such a difference seeing biomes off in the far distance instead of fog or nothingness.

I have the same problem. This fixed it for me: Turn off multi-core. Either set it to smooth or default. Really annoying bug....

Did you do what the mod author said to do and disable 'Threaded Optimization' and 'OpenGL Threading' in your graphics card control panel? That got rid of it for me.

Dude unless you know what you are talking about then stop talking. The issue is that the other Mods are now supporting past 804.... Causing issues with Optifine. Optifine is bloatware anyways. You are better off downloading freeporn.exe :P But all joking aside he has to update to at least 819+

Quit telling people to stop talking. Stop telling the mod author what he _has_ to do. You're gd annoying.

    Since this is a very active thread im not gonna bother going through all the pages to find an answer to my question;
I can't climb ladders or vines, this has happened to people and they are reporting it is an issue by optifine, I need a fix for this as it is very bothersome. thanks

I've read every post in this thread for the last 3 weeks and this is the first I've seen where people can't climb ladders or vines, so I don't know where people are reporting this, or that it's optifine.

before i update to minecraft 1.6.2, one question: is connected glass working correctly now?
if not, how can i combine optifine and mcpatcher, to get the connected glass from mcpatcher?
(and why do i never get answers in this forum?)

I don't know what you mean about connected glass 'working correctly now'. It works fine, I'm running B1.

    I don't know a thing about mcpatcher.

What settings should I use to make Minecraft look as good as possible?

Hover your mouse over every setting. There is usually a fast or fancy option and it will tell you which option is fast, slow and slowest. Pick the slowest for every option until your FPS goes down to 1. Now decide which things you must have and go change the other ones back to fast.

I personally keep my Minecraft as vanilla as possible and just use Optifine for Extreme draw distance, multi-core chunk loading and clear water - try clear water, it's the best.

Can someone tell me the vanilla Minecraft equivilent of water and lava animations? Would it be dynamic or on?

I'm trying to get my Optifine to be just like vanilla Minecraft except using Extreme render distance, clear water and multi-core chunk loading. Thanks.

There was a standard long time ago, with the seed "debug". However It measured only still FPS (no chunk loading lag). Currently there is no standard and everyone reports some average which of course depends on many factors: single/multiplayer, terrain complexity (flat vs jungle), options set (render distance, AA/AF), etc.

Thanks, this is just what I was wondering. I just got into Minecraft back in April and found Optifine 3 weeks ago, so I'm kind of new to all of this. I felt like there was some secret way to calculate FPS that I couldn't find. Your mod is awesome and I love the Extreme render setting. It's amazing to go to high up in a tower and look out and see biomes as far as you can see, instead of the edge of a block 512 blocks away.

Since your alleged FPS is far higher than any monitor can display, it doesn't matter. But you could try running FRAPS, and calculate an average per these instructions: http://www.makeuseof...formance-fraps/

    Thanks!

I know FPS over 60 is useless, but what I want to do is test various settings in Optifine to see how they effect my FPS, and with such a wide range of numbers just using F3, I can't really tell. I'll try this FRAPS.

there is no need for you to calculate your fps. tell me if your fps goes under 30 then we can talk...

Thanks but that doesn't really answer my question now, does it? The FPS is always changing, even if I'm just standing there. I only use Optifine for 1 thing - so I can put render distance on extreme, and then my FPS drops tremendously, but still a very large range. If there is no standard, and people are just guessing at an average, that's all I'd like to know.

Is there a standard way to calculate FPS? I see everyone quote their FPS with and without Optifine, but what standards are you using?

I have a cobblestone hallway 1 block wide, 3 blocks high and 100 blocks long with a torch every 5 blocks. When I walk straight down that hallway, my FPS went as low as 216 and as high as 521 ... so what exactly is my FPS? If I go down my ladder from level 60 to level 11, my FPS is between 825 and 975.

So is everyone just guessing at an average, or is there some set way to measure it that I don't know about? Thanks.
