posted a message on [ADV] Kingdom of the Sky (Narrated Story) Multiple Perfect Review Scores - 175,000+ Downloads!
Has anyone translated the videos to text?

I'm thinking about making a multiplayer version of this map and I'm collecting my thoughts about it on this thread.

If I do get this converted for a 1.8 bukkit server (starting on 1.7.10), I will post the converted maps and plugin configurations where you only have to download the server and plugin .jar files to make it work for you.

EDIT #1: I am converting this map and texturepack to the current version format / resource pack. Once that is done, I'll continue with the multiplayer server conversion.

EDIT #2: Here is the original map updated to 1.7.x format along with the texture pack accurately converted to a resource pack: Kingdom of the Sky for MC 1.7

EDIT #3: I have solved just about every obstacle getting this map to work well on a multiplayer server except for the automated map reset. I tried Multiverse-Adventure and AdvertCore but neither work correctly. The only solution I have would be a bit ugly...to script a restore of the world folders whenever the server restarts.

And you could have of at least let me finish >.>

Wrong. I removed everything you did after I banned you. So don't think for 1 second I was just using you. You can still login with your alternate account to verify (at least while the server is still up for a short time).

However, I'm shutting it down due to too many exploits in the mod which prevents me from effectively protecting safe areas like spawn or being able to rollback destruction in certain areas. Entity damage by mobs like MobZilla and The King bypass block logging utilities making them ineffective at selective rollbacks. Other items like Miners Dream can destroy World-Guard protected areas like spawn and also bypass block logging.

Please edit your posts with the server address and remove the URL since it will not longer be valid and would only confuse people reading it later (hoping there was a server there).

EDIT: @zoryox1, I am looking into hosting a Tekkit server but after I get it up and running, I will also have to test it for similar issues...however, there is a LOT more to that server to test. :)

EDIT: Server shutdown due to too many exploits in the mod causing issues protecting areas like spawn or being able to rollback block changes.

HamOreSpawn is now at version 15 and no longer whitelisted. Things are still under construction and not perfect yet but definitely playable.

Here are the general steps to get your PC ready to connect is the HamOreSpawn server:
    1. Download Forge Installer 1.6.4-9.11.1.965 and save the .jar file to your PC.
    2. Run the installer, select "Client install." This will create a new profile called "Forge"
    3. Start Minecraft and select the "Forge" profile. Once it loads, close Minecraft. This will create a "mods" sub-folder.
    4. Download the OreSpawn164v15.zip archive and place it in %appdata%\.minecraft\mods\
    5. Start Minecraft. Click the "Mods" button and you should see OreSpawn as one of the mods loaded.
    6. Click Multiplayer from the main menu and add ** REMOVED **

hehehe...the server is already up but it is in whitelist mode while it is being configured.

I updated the server this morning and is now running on MCPC+ with various plugins like WorldGuard, PermissionEx, Essentials, etc.

Ah, I have discovered MCPC+ server which is Spigot (e.g. Bukkit) with Forge.

That means I can run OreSpawn but also manage the server with all my usual server-side plugins.

So expect some changes soon. It will be exactly the same to you but will be far better to manage and maintain good levels of performance.

I was getting worried with the crap-ton of it drops everywhere and mob spawning which was getting on the insane side of things...and that is just how the mod works...not even anyone abusing the system...LoL

I have no clue what technic is. To connect to this OreSpawn server, you need Minecraft 1.6.4 + Forge 1.6.4-9.11.1.965 + OreSpawn 14 installed on your PC.

I have had 3 other people connect and it works just fine. Some even had more mods in their mod folder but it still worked.

    EDIT:

Here are the general steps to get your PC ready to connect is this OreSpawn server:
    1. Download Forge installer for 1.6.4 and save the .jar file to your PC.
    2. Run the installed, select Client install. This will create a new profile called "Forge"
    3. Start Minecraft and select the "Forge" profile. Once it loads, close Minecraft. This will create a "mods" sub-folder.

The server is online and in whitelist mode for the moment while spawn is setup. Once it is ready for the public, I will turn off whitelist mode.

With what you mentioned, it sounds like you are needing a faction server, creative (with plots?) server and a Skyblock server and a hub server to tie them all together? Including global chat system (e.g. via database)?

I have 1 server that has factions, a PvP world, NoPvP world and various mini-game worlds but I don't allow creative due to all the potential exploits.

I am looking into a limited creative plugin that gives access to creative but plugs the exploits and allows the economy to survive by using resource chests to auto-build anything created in creative mode...but you have to supply the materials. But this is still experimental and under development to fix bugs.

I just don't know how you would implement all of this on a single server instance without all kinds of cross-over exploits.

I am current redesigning the vote system for my server (HamCraft) but once I'm done with that, I'll setup an orespawn server. The address will be ** REMOVED **

For those of you reading this in the distant future, please know that I have no plans to host this server forever. I'm just helping it get a start until RRex can maintain a hosting service for it.

From the looks of it, I will be using OreSpawn version 14 which will require 1.6.4 of Minecraft_Server.jar and Forge 9.11.1.965

If anyone knows some good server/player management plugins, let me know.

Well, I could host the initial server for a while. I could probably even create the server setup. I used to create/host modded servers in the past but stopped doing it in favor of CraftBukkit since it was so easy to maintain server-side and not have to mess with all the client issues. :)

But since it has been a while since being in the modded server scene, what mods are available to help with the admin functions of the server? For CraftBukkit, we have things like Essentials, BanManager, etc.

I recently setup orespawn on my kids computers so I do have an interest in this.

PM me to get my attention (I don't get notifications when someone replies to a post)

posted a message on Plugin mysteriously showing up on my server
The "AdminFun.jar" in your plugin folder was actually KingKits 2.0.6 renamed.

I found it because I saw that version 2.0.6 of that plugin was loading in the console. A quick download of the official version of that file let me find which .jar file in your plugins folder matched the same filesize.

posted a message on I've tried everything to get new players on my server; how do other servers do it?
Good question. Sounds like my server. However, I made the server for myself, friends and family. Anyone can join that wants to but I don't try to max out my server with tons of people either.

You might have better luck if you had a domain name rather than just an IP address. I see an IP address only and it makes me think "this is temporary and on some kids home PC" which might be hard to get donations to come in if you actually have it hosted somewhere. Get a domain name even if you have to use something like No-IP.

But if you find a magic bullet, let me know. hehehe.

posted a message on Grief Prevention Per World
ummm....are you talking about WorldGuard or Factions? Or both?

With worldguard, you could prevent editing of an entire world by anyone by setting a global flag:

    /region flag __global__ build deny

If you are the only one with all worldguard permissions, you can bypass the build restriction and do whatever you want.

If you are talking about Factions, simply mark that world in the faction config as a world to be ignored and you cannot claim land or lose power in that world.

    plugins/factions/config.json:
      "worldsNoClaiming": [YourUnclaimableWorldNameHere],

posted a message on MicroITX Minecraft server suggest/help.
I'm sorry but nobody can make an honest / accurate recommendation with the information provided.

When you say "Minecraft server," are you talking about vanilla Minecraft_Server.jar? Or Craftbukkit? Or Spigot?

You did not mention if you are going to run plugins (or mods if vanilla server) and what they might be.

Some plugins can be very taxing on a system where others might require other services which add additional load on your server or require a different server...example: MySQL connectivity. But no matter what, start with the bare minimum and watch performance....if its handling everything OK, then add another, watch performance, etc.

Running a Linux operating system without a GUI is a very good choice and is actually the exact same thing I'm using. :) However, how you configure it can also play a big factor in its performance, maintainability, security and longevity.

I wouldn't dismiss the bandwidth issue though. For a server, upload speed is everything...and on a residential connection, it is almost always not enough...especially considering you are trying to run with 50 users. I doubt that many would be on your server if it lags out due to your server not being able to send out enough packets to keep up with demand.

You also didn't mention what kind of hard drive you plan on using. Is it ATA with SATA 3.0 spec, SSD? SAS? 10k RPM, 15k RPM

As for the CPU, nothing less than an i7 because the server needs a lot of CPU horsepower especially when players create huge farms/grinders. If you really will have 50 players, keeping them confined where they are near each other helps reduce the amount of chunks it has to process but if you have a wide-open world(s), then you might have a huge memory chunk per person.
