Well I like this Idea, if the chunk selection of different ores would not base on the biome but be random.
If I would have to find a Desert each time i want some gold it would be annoying.
but diamonds should not be spawned in clusters, too op ;)

My idea is not that you can only find certain types of mineral deposits in certain biomes, but just that it is more likely that you would find a certain mineral deposit in a certain biome.

Interesting idea, but I believe that the diversity of the biomes' ore generation allows players to settle in a place of their choice. This would be slightly OP, however, because it would make mining way too easy.

    Remember, gameplay>realism.

Good point, but I did say that the chunks that would have these deposits would be randomly selected, which would mean a certain percent of chunks would be chosen to contain them. This percent could be nerfed if these deposits became too OP so that they wouldn't be found so often (but, of course, they would still be found more often than they would be now). Also, perhaps this percent, not the percent of finding a certain ore, but the percent of finding a large deposit of a certain ore, could be slightly increased in certain biomes, so that, for example, a desert won't always have a large amount of coal within it, but it will have a slightly higher chance of having a large amount of coal within it. The difference in probability, though, between finding a deposit of coal in a desert and doing the same somewhere else doesn't have to be drastic, but it would be nice for it to be there. Regardless, I somewhat think that these deposits would be more of a later-game aspect (when one would require a much larger supply of minerals than they got from their first few mining trips),and could be located at deeper levels, for example, for more challenge. So, since selecting an area to build a house is one of the first things you do, these deposits would not affect your decision on where to live as much as you might think.

Maybe the ores spawn more in mineshafts like the they mine something specific.

    That's actually a great idea.

How many times have you seen a "coal mine" in an adventure map or some sort of Minecraft video series? Have you ever wondered what makes these "coal mines" be called "coal" mines? The answer, I do believe, is the fact that these mines behold a substantial amount, or at least a larger than usual amount, of coal. But when does this ever naturally occur in Minecraft? Usually, when mining in a cave or strip mining, one comes across proportional amounts of minerals, with no mineral being found more often than it normally is found. My suggestion is that large deposits of certain minerals be implemented into the terrain. What my suggestion is NOT is to have larger veins of ores randomly spawn. Instead, I would like there to be more of these veins in randomly selected chunks. This provides the possibility of an actual "coal mine", where large amounts of the mineral would be found in a certain chunk,or, if it's located inside of the chunk, a certain cave. Also, like the title says, ores could be biome selective, where the probability of finding a certain type of ore increases when in a certain biome (Ex: coal could be more frequently found in the desert/ocean, similarly to oil IRL).

Now, there is the off chance of finding an actual "coal mine" or coming across more amounts of a mineral than you'd expect in the current version of Minecraft, but this is somewhat rare, and is not intended to be an actual part of the game, as far as I know.

Overall, I think that these changes would greatly improve the terrain and gameplay of Minecraft, and add to aspects such as role-playing and realism. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject, and I don't mind a little criticism, but please nothing offensive. Also, please note that I am not an experienced coder or anything, and therefore I do not know whether or not this would be a "massive undertaking", or "virtually impossible", etc., etc., so please do not write a post about how I know nothing about making or coding a game, because I already know that I do not.

    Thank you for your time,

*UPDATE*: It has come to my attention, by Afroknight14, that instead of just large deposits of certain ores spawning just anywhere, they could spawn specifically in abandoned mineshafts. This would give the reasonable implication that the miners who were once mining in the mineshaft were mining for a certain mineral (I know, it's a mouthful), would not drastically affect mining under regular circumstances (in caves), and would give a much needed additional feature to abandoned mineshafts that would give reason for a player to mine in them in the first place (other than the chests and rails).

Except for not addressing the horrible grammar(with which about half of the suggestions are written ._.) a decent guide, with pretty fonts.

Well, for the record, this guide did actually mention the aspect of grammar (see Presentation: #5). While it did not specifically call out the bad grammar in the suggestions, or go into a lot of detail on how good/bad grammar affects the quality of your post, it did address the issue.

But yes, this was a decent guide, with certainly pretty fonts. :steve_wink:
