Funny enough, I remember being here before Twitch change but my account is 2018. Maybe I used to lurk here and forgot that I did so?
The read-only thing was funding-related iirc but there are a lot of conspiracies about this forum's dwindling activity.
I'm actually about as active now as I've been the last few months, but I've had my off periods every year since joining. This forum used to be my seed exchange/seed dump but now I mostly grab ideas for builds and discuss suggestions briefly. I'd do more redstone stuff but redstone tests my patience.
Maybe you had another account you forgot about? I know I've completed sign up forms for a website only to find that my email was already in use, and sure enough I log in and boom I have an account that I've forgotten about!
Discord and just a general change in society killed not only this forum, but pretty much every forum. It's nice to log in every few months, but the facts are the forum peaked around 2014/15 and has been on a decline since.
Took me a moment to realise that 7 years ago was 2016...
In 2017 the forum merged with Twitch. Some of us, myself included, opposed that change and logged out for good. Then EUDPR laws came into effect and those (again, myself included) who hadn't consented to our data being stored had our accounts deleted. I lost my original account that I set up in June 2013.
Then around 2019 it was announced that the forum would be going read-only. I came back to give the forum a final send off because it formed a large part of my childhood. I now firmly believe that this was a conspiracy set up by citricsquid to bump up the forum activity. It worked. For a bit.
Then citric retired. I wonder what he's up to these days.
I wouldn't say the forum is dead, but I'll put it this way. I made 3000 posts in 4 years on my old account (not including FG posts). I've had this account for roughly the same amount of time and I haven't even made 30 posts. Nostalgia brings me back.
It would be a tie between XP and 7, personally. Vista was hot garbage, despite having a gorgeous GUI. 8/8.1 were a disaster on PC, laptop and tablet and I'm happy to forget about it. 10 and 11 are alright, but they're bloated with so much that I find them annoying, and unusable on my old laptop that I use to run VCDS (a diagnostics and programming software for Volkswagen group cars).
XP was my first proper experience with a computer when I was young. We had an XP desktop and everything about that OS brings back a certain sense of nostalgia. In a way I feel at ease whenever I get to use an XP machine. I feel similar about Windows 7. I downgraded, and I use that term loosely, my 8.1 laptop when I was 12. Hopped between 7 and 10 for a bit, before settling on 7 on the laptop and 10 on my desktop for the GPU drivers.
I mainly use an M1 MacBook Air now, but have nothing against a good Windows system.
I like Discord but it gets cluttered. I miss the days of being able to log onto a forum (namely this one) and having all the discussions of the day separated for you to choose to engage with at your leisure.
No one really used forums anymore I've noticed. I'm here, as well as a handful of others. But these days I find it much easier to join a Discord server or a Facebook group to get any information I need.
So basically my old account was deleted when EUDPR came into effect. Some of you may know me as Kuro. I originally joined on the 27th of June 2013. I understand my account was deleted but I'm wondering if it can be restored from a backup or something? Thanks.
