Jul 11, 2012@IronMagus, cheers, dibs, or whatever they say in English, for your interesting posts. It's of my current interest however, to do some aesthetic work, but probably I'll get bored of that at one stage and by that time I'll go for one of your compact designs.Posted in: Survival Mode
I did a design in creative, and fenced it, and surrounded that with lava, and applied lights around, and placed two villagers, so that I can leave the design reproducing overnight to make sure I did it the right way.
The expected and actual results are written in the spoiler in the bottom, I don't have an idea why they differ. I think that I left the design four hours running, here's a sketch of what I did:
* View is from top, height is three blocks.
+ = Door.
# = Planks.
dots = Empty.
EDIT: Removed all spaces, they messed up the sketch...
Layers one and two:
#+#+#..#+#+# +...+..+...+ #...#..#...# +...+..+...+ #+#+#..#+#+# ............ ............ #+#+#..#+#+# +...+..+...+ #...#..#...# +...+..+...+ #+#+#..#+#+#
.#.#....#.#. #####..##### .#.#....#.#. #####..##### .#.#....#.#. ............ ............ .#.#....#.#. #####..##### .#.#....#.#. #####..##### .#.#....#.#.
It's basically stacking "Turbo Scrooges". I did marginal modifications, but I think they only had aesthetic effects. I might redo the test, dunno.
Expected: 11.2 Villagers.
Actual: 10 Villagers, no idea how the game would deal with fractions if present.

Time doesn't freeze, but updates don't occur in chunks that you don't have loaded.
So, basically the only thing that keeps counting is day/night cycle, but other stuff does not process while you are away, since chunks of worlds you are not in are NOT loaded.

Maybe they're thinking malevolent thoughts.
I don't understand you...

[...] getting the Return to Sender achievement can be a challenge. [...]
Without seeking to get it, I acquired it on my 3rd Ghast kill. It was at long range (around 30 blocks), and I think I had slightly higher ground than him. My arrow hit his fireball at like 20% distance between both of us, with the reflection point being closer to him.
and somehow, I feel like my last paragraph is a bit complex... don't hesitate to ask for a re-explanation if you want one.
Jul 10, 2012Yes, I forgot to mention: The first time I died in the Nether, it was by one Ghast, I did not click respawn for full four minutes (trauma, if you can say), and when I did, I went immediately to re-enter the portal. I was welcomed by at least five Ghasts.Posted in: Survival Mode
That, makes me doubt about the fact that they do NOT pursue you, although they seem to NOT pursue you in other instances, which is baffling.
By the way, does the worlds you are not in at a specific time freeze? For instance, if I'm in the Overworld, does the Nether freeze it's time? and vice versa?
Jul 10, 2012Well I've just had a conflict with one Ghast, and I am sure his second shot was at least 32 blocks far!! There is definitely some fishy stuff around here.Posted in: Survival Mode
I'm into checking and debugging the source code to figure the facts. Is the modding zone the correct place to ask about such things?
Jul 10, 2012Posted in: Survival Mode
I don't mind. How?
Yeah, well, basically that's one weird thing, maybe an easter egg (if I properly understand what they are), but it's one of my least discomforts for the time being.
****!! *********!?!!? ***********!!!! ****** ** *** ****************** **************************** ***************!!!!!!
Jul 10, 2012Quick question: the wiki states the following about Ghasts:Posted in: Survival Mode
Unlike most other aggressive mobs, the Ghast does not have a pursuit mode - it does not attempt to draw closer to the player when at long range (and likewise is not particularly likely to float away). Compared to other mobs, the Ghast has a very long search range and can target a player up to 100 blocks away. When the player comes within about sixteen blocks, the Ghast will open fire and attempt to gain altitude.
So they state that Ghasts do NOT attempt to follow you when they realize your presence. They also state that Ghasts realize your presence up to 100 blocks away, and they also state that Ghasts only open fire up to 16 blocks away.
If my understanding is correct, then what does exactly the awareness issue of 100 blocks affect? It seems redundant...
Jul 10, 2012So, what governs the choice between Derrick's design shown above, and between the designs shown in this link, are the following factors:Posted in: Survival Mode
- Efficiency (Derrick's).
- Aesthetic-ness (NOT Derrick's).
- Protection (debatable).
I hope I'm correct in my conclusions.
By the way, if I'm going with "Turbo Scrooges", I should have two empty spaces between each two constructs, in all four directions. Is that right?
EDIT: @Boundegar, I read somewhere about a counter-argument to automated expansion: they said that since it would require minimal or no contribution from the player, it would become dull, or not as exciting as it is currently is. To be honest, I think both the current and suggested states have their downsides each. I'm so eager to see a hybrid of both cases, as I have great faith that it will be awesome.
Jul 9, 2012Not to bother you, but first, that just sounds to directly violate the rules of house-identification in villages. I'll read them later to recap the things.Posted in: Survival Mode
Second, I'm unable to comprehend the design properly, I wish if it were a short video or at least a few screenshots from different angles...
But if it works, then that's one interesting engineered thing you have there.

Does the Testificate door logic check to see if the door is in frame, or can you just drop down tons of doors? If so, why haven't I seen a picture of someone's village where there are no buildings, just tons of doors. I would think I would remember such an image.
There's a rule, like, a door, a roof, an enclosed area, I don't really recall the details, but basically you need to do many huts.
Anyways, thanks for the feedback on professions. So pretty much what's still hard-to-get are the chests generated along with structures. Well, I'll still survive for the time being.
Jul 9, 2012So, in short, for a villager to exist with a certain profession, the corresponding structure must exist, and if that structure does not exist, then the only way to find that profession would be to look in new villages, correct?Posted in: Survival Mode
Jul 9, 2012Hello. At first, I thought that NPC villages do expand on their own, but by observation, and due to the fact that there is no content anywhere (wiki, forums, etc...) that asserts my assumption, I'm starting to believe that the only aspects of auto-expansion in NPC villages are:Posted in: Survival Mode
- Increase in Villagers: provided they are less than a certain threshold.
- Generation of Golems: provided certain circumstances.
- (NOT) Generation of Structures.
So, question#1: Am I correct in what I said?
Question#2: Then, should I build a Smithy if I want a Smith, for an instance? Would that work?
Forward thanks, and @xDMaelstrom, many thanks. I read about Spawner Farms and stuff, it's worth the torches
Jun 23, 2012Tested and confirmed, they do play their sounds if they are in proximity.Posted in: Survival Mode
Now, you know those skeleton archers? I hear the sound of them throwing arrows, and at the same time I doubt they ever acquired line-of-sight with me. So what does that exactly mean? They are NOT supposed to be in pursuit mode in such cases.
So there's pretty much a new problem nowWell, that brings up another point: Identifying whether or not pursuit-mode is online for a particular mob without getting visual contact with him.
Jun 22, 2012As for the spawner thing, didn't read about it yet, but since you say putting torches will help in the future, then so be it!Posted in: Survival Mode
For the line-of-sight issue, not to discredit you, but in the page here, section 3.1:
If the closest player to a wandering hostile mob is within the search radius of 16 blocks and a line of sight can be drawn, [...trimmed text...] the mob will enter pursuit mode
I did not yet confirm their need for the stated line-of-sight however.
